Why do all the roads in the old city of Stockholm have Greek names?
Can you give some example? If I look at a map of “Gamla Stan” in Stockholm - literally “Old City” then I see for example:Drakens gränd - Dragon's alleyNygränd - New alleyBredgränd - Wide AlleyGåsgränd - Goose AlleyPrästgatan- Priest StreetSlottsbacken- Castles HillI don’t see any Greek names leaping out at me at all.
Where can I find good beer gardens in London?
The Windsor Castle on Campden Hill Road has a pretty if not big beer garden.
Have you ever come back to your vehicle only to find something quite unexpected?
We had gone off to somewhere near Huddersfield, to do a really nice circular walk, which took us through some gorgeous bluebell woods, and then up to Castle Hill, with a nice pub stop on the way round. Those were the days, when both kids were small and we did the walking as a family! We'd parked by a cricket field in a little village, at the start of the walk. There was a little rough almost-track at one end, it stopped with about enough room to park a car. Behind that were some metal posts (the kind you can unlock and lie flat), and then some trees, and very thick nettles all around the trees that came up as tall as my armpits. Clearly it was not accessed, there were no paths amongst the nettles, there was no ffarmland.Just a copse of trees, which was full of nettles. So we parked the car there.Off we went for a walk, doing the usual picking of sticks (for wands), who was going to be Harry Potter or who was going to be Frodo on his way to Mordor, or maybe someone would find a ‘staff' so they could be Gandalf. The kids were the Pathfinders. We made our way, hiding, running, whispering, through a field of vampire sheep. We looked inside the ruins of an old farmhouse and saw a fireplace halfway up the wall. We called at the pub for lunch, and walked through the ancient and pretty churchyard, back to the car. But… bloody car was gone! Where was it?!My husband and I looked agog at each other… and then, as I looked round, I saw it about 100 yards down the road, parked on the roadside! Yep, the car was in a different place to where we left it!Erm… okay… that's not at all weird. On looking where we parked originally, we found all the nettles had been cut in that copse behind those metal posts. So we assumed that a farmer had towed our car down the road with his tractor, to gain access. No idea why they suddenly chose that particular moment to trim some nettles in an otherwise pointless patch of land, but I half wondered if they were hiding somewhere to laugh at our reaction when we found our car teleported 100 yards down the road.
