I am a retired lawyer who specialised in personal injury work for Insurers. In one case, I was instructed to obtain a medical report from a senior neurosurgeon I had not heard of. Now deceased, he was called EJ Radley-Smith (google him he was famous). I received the Report. One of his opening comments began….”When I was first shown this procedure at the Mayo Clinic…”. It was and probably still is THE leading source of surgical advancement. As an aside Radley as he wanted to be called was a delightful 80 year old. Seriously google him… there’s a grim history behind him!

Mike Glennon was a high draft pick who was taken in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Keep in mind that this draft was a historically bad one, as Glennon was only the third quarterback taken despite being a Day 2 pick. The Tampa Bay Bucs took Glennon thinking that he could an immediate starter as a rookie and a franchise QB that they could develop with live-game reps. In fact, they had Glennon at the top of their draft board, even above draft classmates EJ Manuel (a first-round pick) and Genl Smith (a second-round pick). Things were okay for him at first. As a rookie starter, Mike Glennon played well, throwing for 19 TD:9 INT, 2608 yds, and an 83.9 passer rating while appearing in 13 games (13 starts). He even had enough good games to make the 2013 All-Rookie Team. For a moment, it looked like Mike Glennon might justify his high draft status and finally emerge as the Bucs’ much-needed franchise QB. However, he was still woefully inaccurate as a pocket passer, posting just a 59.4% completion rate in his rookie year. The Bucs kept him as the starter for another season, though, this time adding veteran journeyman QB Josh McCown as insurance behind him.It was from this point on that the Bucs essentially lost faith in Glennon. He failed to improve in 2014 and was benched for McCown, which made the Bucs essentially lose hope in him. The team basically admitted that Glennon was a draft bust by selecting new quarterback Jameis Winston in the first round (1st overall). Glennon competed with Winston for the starting job in the latter’s rookie year, lost the competition, and then spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons as Winston’s backup before signing a shockingly large 3-year, $45M deal with the Chicago Bears in free agency. This did not go well at all, as Glennon spent 4 games as the starter before being benched due to awful performance. He went down as one of the Bears’ worst-ever free-agent signings. He was released the following year in 2018 and has since spent the past few seasons as a cheap journeyman backup. Glennon will make his first start as a Jacksonville Jaguar this upcoming week in place of an injured Gardner Minshew, though no one expects him to be good anymore. That ship has long sailed. For all pf his massive struggles, though, Mike Glennon still managed to end up as the best QB from the 2013 draft, which goes to show how downright awful EJ Manuel and Geno Smith really were. Of these three, Glennon is the only highly drafted QB from that draft class to still have a job in the NFL.
