What is the interview process like at Microsoft?

I got an opportunity to get interviewed with Microsoft for Hyderabad location.I had 6 rounds of interview including HR. As I was in Bangalore, I had 2 telephonic rounds, 2 Face to Face in Microsoft, Bangalore location, 1 Skype round, 1 HR round.Round I - Telephonic Round - 40mns - April 5 -2018In this round I was asked about OOPS,Angular 2,Web API, 2 coding questions. The level of questions were medium but tricky. About coding algorithms, I need to explain the pseudo code and it has to cover all the scenarios with minimum time complexity.Questions were about strings and arrays. After that interviewer said HR will update you. After 2 days I was told that I got selected for the next round.Round II - Telephonic Round - 35–40mns - April 11 -2018This round was more about dot net framework. Questions were like Assembly, GAC, Memory Leaks, Memory Management,Strong keys etc and tricky questions about OOPS and few algorithms again. I was asked to explain about my project, roles and responsibilities. Again few questions based on project like why did you choose AWS, why Dynamo DB (I was using in my previous project). After few days HR said I got selected and invited for Face to Face discussion at Microsoft campus, Bangalore.Round III - Face to Face Round - 50mns - April 16-2018This was my first F2F with Microsoft. I was bit nervous. Questions were related to my project,Web API, REST Services, SQL, Data Structures and Algorithms. Interviewer was very friendly and helped to solve one algorithm when I was stuck and unable to move further. Few questions from my resume, academics, college paper presentations were also asked. I was told that I was selected and scheduled one more round.Round IV- Face to Face Round - 40mns - April 21-2018This is techno-managerial round. Questions were likeHow do I take stress?Favorite hobby, What do I do in free time?Solved any performance issues/Production issues.Gave me 3–4 scenarios and asked me how do I react to those scenarios if I was in that position.Favorite component I worked till now ? Pros and cons ?Long term goals.Few puzzles were also asked and some technical discussion about Micro-service Architecture.Lot of questions about Micro services and docker were asked.Round V- Skype Round - 35mns - April 25 - 2018This is also called hiring manager round. This round is more about confirming what all technologies I have worked on, he asked me whether I am comfortable working on few technologies like Azure (as i didn’t had previous experience on this), whether I am open to any technologies. Questions about architecture of my project, how do we split the tasks, scrums, iterations, roles and responsibilities, deployment etc.Round VI- HR Round - April 27 - 2018HR called me and said I have cleared all the rounds and asked for few documents. This is not a round actually, it was more or less a discussion. Finally on May 31st 2018 HR called me and said “Welcome to Microsoft” and sent me an offer letter.I was offered SDE-II position. I can say that day as one of the best days in my life.I have joined Microsoft, Hyderabad on June 29th,2018. I am really happy working here, magnificent campus, amazing food, lot of perks, friendly colleagues, approachable managers. It was my dream to work here since my college days and my parents are very happy about this.Feel free to ask any questions regarding interviews. Happy to help. All the best if anyone is trying for Microsoft.EDIT-1- I have got many personal messages asking more about questions, interviews, preparation tips etc. So thought of adding few links which might help.1)Microsoft topics for Interview Preparation - GeeksforGeeks - This has lot of questions about data structures and algorithms. This might help for Freshers and for the people who passed out from college.2)Microsoft Interview Questions - Here you can find the interview experience of the people who attended Microsoft all over the globe.3)Free sql server video tutorials for beginners - This helps for people who wants to gain knowledge with SQL. It helps beginners as well as experienced. It has almost all the concepts.4)C# Interview Questions And Answers - This will help you to revise your basics of OOPS and C# concepts. I use to refer this when I go for interviews.5)c# tutorial for beginners - YouTube - This is for beginners who doesn't have any knowledge on C# and OOPS.6)How should I prepare for a Microsoft interview? This is a question in Quora where you can find good tips.7) The world is moving to Azure. Having an idea of azure concepts will definitely be add on. I am still a beginner with azure. Hence I could not add any links.I suggest to follow many questions in Quora with respect to interviews, companies, Microsoft Interview preparations etc . Follow those topics.

Is it worth buying the iPhone 7?

I realize this is a minority view, but I think sometime around 5 to 10 years from now we’ll look back on the iPhone 7 as the start of a new era. Why? Two key reasons …AirPodIt may seem like just another bluetooth ear bud, but look again at the technologies embedded in the AirPod. It senses when it’s in your ear, uses accelerometers to detect motion. With a tap the beam-forming microphone accepts input to the Siri assistant which, like the Amazon Echo, is rapidly becoming a primary user interface to the internet. Airpods sync across all your Apple devices via iCloud placing the AirPod as a peer to the Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch. It’s an iPhone in your ear. Instead of finger gestures, you simply talk to it with a familiar vocabulary. It uses your hearing instead of your eyesight to communicate with you.The significance of this product to Apple is clearly evident. They have been working on this for some in order to develop a completely new W1 processor specifically for this purpose, and spent $3 billion USD to purchase Beats. It’s significant that Beats is now introducing multiple headphone models with the W1 processor installed, and presumably also capable of syncing with iCloud and all of your other Apple devices. Apple wouldn’t have invested this amount of resources for just another set of ear buds. AirPods is clearly a strategic investment for Apple.Think about how it could evolve. In fact, how long will it be before you no longer need an iPhone at all? For example, need to call someone? Just tap your ear and ask Siri. Or ask Siri to play a song for you, schedule an appointment, or check your messages. Ask for directions and your AirPod could wirelessly communicate with the GPS in your Apple Watch to give you a map, whisper turn-by-turn directions in your ear, mention a local coffee shop, tell you when the next bus is due at your location, or that the Uber driver you requested is waiting at the corner. With accelerometers it can sense if you’re moving or standing, or nodding or shaking your head in response to a question. With AirPods you can hold your head up and walk down the street, ride a bicycle, or drive a car and not dangerously bury your face in an iPhone. It’s an intriguing vision of the future for mobile technologies comparable to Google glass in ambition but further along in execution.Even the name of the device, AirPod, is ambitious. They could have named it something else, but choosing AirPod harks back to iPod… a device that changed the music industry. There should be no question that Apple has large ambitions for the AirPod.Dual Lens CameraThe second reason is the dual lens camera. Apple went in a different and far more ambitious direction then either LG or Huawei. LG’s dual lens camera includes two different focal lengths, one stabilized and the other an unstabilized wide angle. And that’s fine, you get cameras with two different and useful perspectives. Huawei used two cameras with the same focal length to improve image quality and synthesize a depth of field effect. Again, fine and a step forward in mobile photography. But compare that to what Apple is doing in the iPhone 7. Apple is merging the output of two different focal lengths using the most capable processing engines in the industry. The immediate benefit is to create a useful interpolated zoom feature.A more intriguing aspect, however, is merging images to create depth maps of people. This image comes from Linx, the company Apple bought to implement its multi-camera feature …The immediate application on the iPhone 7 plus is portrait photography where the background is blurred to mimic a shallow depth of field effect. But imagine the possibilities for biometrics, VR and gaming, or scene and location identification. Imagine video conferencing where a 3D representation of your face is displayed in a remote location. Or as your 3D avatar in a multiplayer video game. Again, huge potential. Earlier this year Apple filed patent to track hands in 3D dimensions by depth sequencing as described in Apple Invents a New 3D Depth Sequencing Technology. The iPhone 7 upgrade is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The new technologies reflect Apple’s large investments in acquiring companies such as Beats and the Israeli based company Linx. The marketplace will decide if they will be successful, but the iPhone 7 provides tantalizing hints of Apple’s vision for a mobile future. This is a product worthy of a company founded by Steve Jobs. Like many of the products introduced in his era which were initially misunderstood, imho the iPhone 7 is establishing a platform for continued innovation at Apple.

How was your KVPY 2019 interview?

My interview was in The International Guest House, DU North Campus.I reached it somehow by asking because the maps had navigated me to boys hostel DU.I was the 4th one to go in the committee alloted to me. I saw the 2nd boy come out of the room , but he looked dismayed. This increased my nervousness, hence I decided not see the expressions of the third boy when he would return.Waited for 15 minutes (longest….) And as the helper announced my name , Adrenaline rushed through me.I entered the room and saw 6 people in the committee (5 males and 1 female)- 1 Biology (male) , 1 chemistry (male) and 1 head of all who was sitting in the middle. One or two physics or maths perhaps with whom I didn't interact throughout the interview. So as I had thought about not sitting until they asked , I greeted them and stood. They asked me warmly to have a seat. The head asked me about my whereabouts and how I had come . To my surprise , they asked me how I located the place. I said - पूछ पूछ के आए गए !(by asking bystanders)They all had a laugh and asked why didn't you use GPS? I replied I did , but it took me to the hostel. It seemed they were asking everyone. then the head glanced at my self appraisal form and I guess he only saw - Chemistry and biology and immediately asked the biology one to start.B- So , which topics are you interested in biology?Me- Molecular biology, Biotechnology and Genetics*Female teacher quirked her brows and said “Molecular biology?”*B asked me about briefing about these. I didB asked some easy questions one by one like What is DNA?How are they packaged ? And then Why are they packaged What are the factors which stabilise it ?Then started asking about chromosomes.B- So how many chromosomes are there in humansMe- 46 sir*B and Female professor look at each other*Me (immediately correcting myself)- per cell. 46 per cell , sir.*B smiled*B then told me to think and tell reasons why diploidy is significant.I replied with things like chances of variation in cross overs , more chances of survival in case of lethal alleles etc etc(He used to interrupt many a times and asked me to explain the words I used)B seemed satisfied.B- So how do we see Chromosomes?I instead told him how to stain DNA using ethidium bromide and then exposing to UV.B insisted the name of the dye used to stain chromosomes in the lab.He said , think you have done it in lab.Me- sorry sir , I don't rememberB- No worries , we aren't here to judge your memory.*I sigh with relief*B then starts asking me about genetic engineering, how to isolate genes , vectors , clones , host and literally everything I had studies in biotech lol. Then he asked me about Dolly . I explained .He asked if I knew what was the difference between Polly ,Molly and Dolly. Thanks to my institute teacher , I answered and B seemed happy.B to Head-Sir , That's all for me.Head-So tell me since you have interest in Biotechnology, name any product made by biotech that is in the marke*As each question passed ,in my mind , I was thanking my institute teachers and was happy that I had read Aakash modules*So I told him about Humulin aka human insulin. The Head also started to ask how it is made.In between B comes out of nowhere and says to Head , this is my forte , let me ask.Again he asked in between trivial questions as I spoke. Then Head somehow convinced B to let C ask some questions *lol , at this point everyone laughed*C (points to the partially filled bottle kept in front of me )-कितना है ये?(How much is it?)Me- Sir 100 ml maybeC- Turn the bottle, see the labelThe label said 300mlMe - oh okay sir 140 ml.C-Now only you saw the bottle and still saying 140?It's 300ml , where is your mind at?Me- Sir but I thought you asked how much water is it , so it's filled a little less than half -the bottle*C understands about the miscommunication and sighs while the Female teacher tries to lighten the mood by saying , “भाई देखो बच्चा logic से जवाब दे रहा है” Everyone smiles*C- take the marker , go to the board.C- Derive KwMe- doneC then asks me why the pH is 7 and not 6 or 8 and I explained to him about temperature dependence of pH and say it can indeed be 6 or 8 depending upon the value of Kw which can vary with temperature and hence concentration of H+ ion.C seemed satisfied.C- Find out the number of molecules of water in the bottle which was placed ahead of you(Now that I knew the volume)I equate 18mL with 18g(density 1) and further with Avogadro's constant and easy peasy , I solved it.The head now said , that's it , you may go now.I said thank you to all but…As I was going , one teacher would never spoke a word stopped me and asked wait , what are your future plans? Now , please understand that after the teachers had grilled me with all sorts of questions now that I was going out I was super happy , but his words made me very nervous. What I had prepared - sir I want to join IISc bla bla blaWhat I told there- sir right now I am somewhat confused but I do have a liking towards biotech and wish to pursue it.(now this is the point where I think I lost some marks)The female teacher told me , that's ok but please first concentrate on your boards to which I nodded with a smile.Everybody then wished me luck and said bye beta! These were perhaps the longest minutes of my life.Result-I was a bit disappointed as I was getting 81 in aptitude test as per official answer key but it's ok.P.S.-Writing such a long answer is tiring and I wonder how people do this.It took me days (I am lazy in these matters) to write this by saving many drafts..I may have left some questions like the biology teacher also asked me about lamarckism and darwism and their differences etc.
