It has been short journey with limited experiences as a writer or reader. But what I hold most dear is the people it has connected me with. I have and continue to come across some of the gem-of-a-kind personalities.My quest for connecting with people resulted in meeting few people from my own native city Belagavi. The prominent one being Manoj Charantimath sir. I recall upvoting an answer he had written where he had helped an employee in his office monetarily for his ailment. The regional mention of KLE Hospital caught my eye and I came to know from his profile that he was a resident of the same city. I scrolled through some more of his answers and upvoted. Maybe this caught his attention made him go through my profile.One fine day(March 25,2017), I received a message notification on Quora from him mentioning his cell number, expressing his interest to meet me as he was visiting my college for a function. The meeting was an altogether different experience,which I cherish till date(will write about it soon). During our brief meeting, we introduced ourselves and spoke for few minutes. Later,we bid goodbye and spoke of being in touch on Quora.Few days ago, I had answered a question for “How many Quorans here are from Belgaum?”. I knew few of my friends who were partially active on Quora and none across the city. So I had expressed my interest in knowing the number and had also put in a word for a possible meet-up. I had come to conclude that there hadn’t been a meet-up held yet, in the city.User-11124986362075000966 commented on my answer expressing interest in arranging a meet-up in May,if possible. I was in agreement for that. But,due to some reasons,there wasn’t any progress.Forward few months,Manoj sir updated me that Veena madam is from the same city and interested in a meet-up. Around the same time,Chaitanya created a Whatsapp group and added me as member. I later posted an invite link on questions related to meet-ups for Belagavi. Gradually, the number rised to 15–16.Since we had a long weekend in the month end of September,many of us agreed on a meet-up on 1st October in the evening, as most of them would be available.Manoj sir proactively came forward to arrange for the venue in IEI,Belagavi. We all unanimously agreed upon the venue and date.7–8 members had confirmed their availability for the meet-up for the scheduled date and I was expecting a maximum of 10 members for the meet,which actually turned out to be 14!The venue was truly well organised. A table placed at the center and chairs surrounding it aided for more open interaction and informal talks. Since it was the first meet-up,we didn’t chalk out any formal agenda and decided to go with the flow.We all arrived, exchanged pleasantries,Dasara wishes and introduced ourselves.During the course of introductory session, people also mentioned how they were introduced to Quora-suggestion by their seniors,co-employees,or Google search results and so on. And some also put forth their opinion for what is Quora to them. It ranged from being a opinion based website to ultimate guide for Debate,Elocution events.etc.Almost everyone expressed their interests to meet popular and inspiring Quorans Balaji Viswanathan (பாலாஜி விஸ்வநாதன்) , Gopalkrishna Vishwanath . Many expressed their admirations for writers Dushka Zapata , User-9248814863030902883 , Aman Khanna , Naman Chakraborty , Neman Ashraf , Sean Kernan , Gordon Miller for their knack of expressing thoughts through words.We also had discussion on some of the latest features on Quora(Video answers, Ads.etc) and exchanged opinions. And there was an interesting part of it where we put forth our theories and analysis on the ‘Virality Factor’ of an answer. I enjoyed the discussion thoroughly.Khatavkar Sourabh shared many of his experiences with Quora and its impact on his life. Another Quoran Sachidanand too spoke how he is addicted to Quora in a good way ;)And the finale was of Manoj sir. He spoke vividly about how he came across Quora,how he begun writing answers,how he ‘invests’ his time on Quora and some hilarious experiences too. He also gave us a brief walkthrough of his life so far and also his travel experiences in Bhutan,East Europe and West Europe. It was fun listening to him with timely additions from Mrs.Poornima Charanthimath ma’am. They also shared the the events that that led to them eventually tying the knot.While all this was happening in the foreground,in the background there was another activity going on. Manoj sir was kind enough to arrange for snacks. We were served delicious chats and tea,while the conversation never ceased.The discussion further opened to the historic verdict by the Supreme Court on Right to Privacy,Triple Talaq.etc. Many also commented on how they feel about misuse of 498 A by a section of society,pseudo-feminism and the likes of harassment on male.Sachidananand shared the gist of a speech he had prepared for an elocution event on 2nd Oct.,which was related to Gandhiji’s Economic Principles(for which he would secure 4th place). Poornima ma’am gave some inputs on the same and cited few examples which stands as a testimony to his principles,and also stressed on the importance of social entrepreneurship and CSR activities by well established companies.We finally had a brief discussion on how the Smart City project is coming around and what are the reasons for the delays,what has been designed, for which Manoj sir provided inputs as he had looked into the design layout prepared by the Committee. We also reflected on our responsibilities as citizen to avoid use of plastic, prevent littering.etc.The most amazing thing of this meet, which everyone noticed in the end was, we all lost track of time discussing such wide range of topics, and never noticed that it had been 2 hours since the meet had begun.It felt surreal that a group of supposedly-strangers who have never met before could hold discussion for hours!We finally bid farwell to each other with promise to keep in touch,and also intend to conduct a possible meet-up during World Quora meet-up week.This meet-up surely has secured a favourite spot in my bunch of memories!And ,personally, am looking forward for more and more of such meet-ups with different exciting activities!Some of the pics from the meet-up-Pic credits- Antriksh,Veena and Manoj sir.Suggestions are welcome.Good day:)
