PDF Editor FAQ

What is the ballsiest thing you've ever seen another person do?

This just happened last night. Not 12 hours ago.I borrowed my neighbor’s lawn mower and mowed for about 3 hours. I have a large yard. We borrowed back and forth all the time, so this was not unusual. His shed had a large rather makeshift work room attached with his tools, chicken feed, etc., stored in it. Next door to it, 2′ away, was his extensive chicken coop. A big 10x10 “communal” chicken room, with kind of a chute they’d walk through to the brooding boxes, and to another taller shed, where there were roosts for them to sit or sleep up on.When finished, I put the mower back in his shed. It was kind over and behind my house, so I couldn’t see it from the front yard. The shed caught fire. We heard weird gun-shot noises but thought it was the neighbor on the other side of me building his garage. When a weird rushing noise and a TOWERING tornado-like black cloud shot into the air behind and over my house. I was in 911 in the black rolling clouds that came down through the streets, and that wasn’t as towering as this. I was horrified. I started to run, screaming to my friend to call 911. She (Jenn) did. All I could see was his entire shed on fire — AND THE CHICKEN COOP.We ran screaming over there (he wasn’t home) and were kind of at a loss. No hoses, no way to put it out. I kept screaming, “The Chickens, the Chickens!” The neighbor from the other side of me (Father George) and his pregnant wife came running across the field to help. We were screaming, because it was impossible to hear over the noise of the roaring fire.My friend went in the back of the taller chicken coop door and started handing out chickens to Father George. The chickens were trying to hide from her, or moving towards the fire. She crawled through the chute (chicken run?) on her hands and knees to pretty much scoop them out to Father George. She found 2 up in the rafters of one coop, then found SEVEN hiding in the brooding box. She got all 20 chickens out, with embers, lumber cracking, metal siding melting. She wasn’t hurt, nor was Father George. The chickens clucked off into the woods behind the shed and fire, a little indignant, but fine. Now, you might say, “Who cares about chickens? She shouldn’t have risked her life.” Chickens are little creatures, very beloved by my neighbor and his daughter. They’re sweet, and show affection. Letting a creature be harmed or die when Jenn could do something about it is not in her nature or character. And she puts her money where her mouth is every day. This, to me, is BALLSY.I have pictures, but I have a dead phone. Maybe later.Edited to add:The building standing is the chicken hang-out building. The orange thing in between the two buildings is the chicken chute, where Jenn crawled. The standing building to the left is the place where some of the roost. She found the 2 in the rafters. Behind the chute is the brooding box, where she found the 7 huddled together. That big chicken building was in total flames while she was crawling around. That big burned out area was my neighbor’s shed and workshop. If you look closely, you can see the remains of the mower on the right. That metal was the workshop roof that blew off.I’ve found I’ve always rather prided myself in being the one people came to in an emergency. I become somewhat of a General, directing things until later. Later, I can either move on or fall apart for a few minutes. In this instance, I was a wreck about the chickens while Jenn sprang into action without a thought. She’s the one I want around when I have an emergency.Ballsy.Edited to add:We don’t know exactly what started the fire yet. Thank you for asking. The inspector hasn’t brought back the reports yet.As I was walking back to the house, the popping, gun shot-like noises started immediately. Which is pretty quick for anything to start burning to the point of exploding pops. We’re not necessarily sure now, that it was the John Deere mower. But I can’t think of anything else. I will let you know, though, since you’ve asked.Edited 12/20/20 to add:So the insurance companies never contacted me, and my neighbor is happy as a clam. With all the tools and building materials he lost, he’s made out like a bandit with his insurance policy. He’s a 2nd hander like me, and nothing he had was new. His policy is replacement reimbursement, though. So he’s use the money wisely and built new chicken coops, paid off bills, (bought a new/used mower) turned a shed on his land into this monstrous workshop with a workshop’s worth of tools he bought from someone shutting down their own workshop. Our relationship has remained good, for which I’m grateful. I am finishing a 65′ x 12′ deck and giving him all the extra lumber, and lumber from the old deck I deconstructed for more of his future projects. He brought me Thanksgiving dinner. Fair trade.I saved enough to finally replace my own mower and won’t be borrowing his. Keeping in mind over the years we’ve both borrowed back and forth. He borrows my truck when he needs one.Life rambles on.

What is the biggest irony of the Indian education system?

1 You want to crack GOOGLE, so, you want IIT, so you attend AKASH classes where the teacher is from IIT.2. Paradoxically, there is this another teacher who never made it to IITs so, was searching for employment, now is helping people to get into IIT.3. The workshops being attended by students in IITs is organised by a guy pursuing Mtech second year from Sukhanandmaghi college.4. Coaching centres teaching 16 lakh students claim that you all will go into IIT while the number of seats in IIT itself is 10,000.5. Coaching industry says it feeds on success, but actually it feeds on failure, they know only 1 out of the 500 students is gonna make, we have to exaggerate the value of that 1, so, that 500 follow, infact 499 strugglers follow. those 499 are the income source not that 1 who cracks the exam.6. So, coaching industry teachers teach you to get into a college where average package is 5.5 lpa but that teacher is earning 3 l per month.7 . It's same everwhere, most of the professors in IITs are those who couldn't make it to IIT, that's why they are here, otherwise they would be publishing some quantum research in Stanford.8. While it has become cliche to demean coaching centres as looters when infact the schools and colleges are big ones.9. Coaching is where you waste money for an year that too for an aim, In schools, you waste it for 15 years, without an aim, In colleges for 3–6 years, when you know you have to learn from textbooks only.10. The biggest irony is Edison never completed the school and Bin Laden was a certified engineer.Edit : I am really thankful for 1k upvotes. And many people are commenting that how could I disregard professors at IIT, I just want to say, I am not degrading anyone here. The people who have upvoted, do you really think they agree with all of the points, and I really must give it to upvoters because there are many answers I like but don't usually upvote, were other people like me, I would never have got these many upvotes. Now, I at once upvote an answer I like. Most of the people are commenting on how could I demean professors at IIT when I have never been to one, well I am from DTU not here to brag about it, but I am writing answer on basis of my experience only. Most of the professors were amazing and deserving, but same can't be said of all. I used term ‘IIT' to connect better with all, that's it, nothing else. They are saying professors work day and night, well if someone is abjecting towards a police officer then you're okay because it is a stereotype that they're bribe-takers though many have sacrificed lives for the country, but if you discredit a professor at a reputed Institute, then you lose it, teacher is a candle stuff starts.A country like Israel, wich has the highest % of its budget allocated to r&d is known as start up Nation. India invests the most miniuscle of the amount for it, the no. of undeserving professors who are way too many should be in proportion to r&d centres. Research labs must be prioritized. And I think I have unintentionally glorified IITs too much, in today's time, there are many non-tier I students who are excelling. It just depends on who is a faster learner.Edit 2 :I never expected my answer to cross 1 lakh views and an almost 4k upvotes. So, I would like to add a few more pieces of ironies related majorly to B. Tech only.1 You have to excel in coding in entire B. Tech but your entrance test comprises Phy, Chem, Maths.2 Schooling and Graduation consumes 20–25 years that is 20% of your life and those required real skills, you have to start learning now.3 Private colleges pay the private companies to virtually hire people and lay off afterwords and students pay those colleges to get into those companies.4 If Btech was of 2 years, then 26 lakh years could have been saved for pass-outs of only one year(assuming 13 lakh are pass outs).5 A Btech of 2 years wouldn't have an adverse effect on students who made it big like Google, IIM people, since time management would have adjusted itself.6 In B.tech in first year, there is workshop on welding, hammering, mud and bricks. They justify this crap by saying we're giving you an all round knowledge.7 When the students of Israel have to earn real money to get a business degree, Indian students are working as interns for free.8 One moment you are learning thermodynamics, next moment radius of some creepy curvature trapped in a cuboid, and the placement interview is Monty-Hall problem.9 Then there are students rejected by TCS but write Er before their names.10 You are selected on basis of PCM, it isn't required in Btech. In Btech, you answer the question on basis of arrangemnt of resistors, capacitors, In, placement interviews it becomes useless. In placement interviews you face (if computers), some geeks for geeks problems, which you did it on your own. After that assume you got successfully placed(not getting into MBA, gre), what was the role of school and college stupidity there in?

What underlying technology gives Tesla the edge over other electric car manufacturers?

Tesla is a snowflake.Slightly naïve to consider any one thing as the reason for success. The magic comes from the right combination that makes the company/ product unique and hard to copy. The key elements:Branding- Tesla projects a lifestyle/ aspirational brand that resonates well across a wide cross-section.Manufacturing - simplified, optimized, automated. This drives down unit costs while allowing to scale, as can be seen with the proliferation of Gigafactories, each built out faster, bigger and better than the last.Lack of legacy costs- dealerships, unions, advertising. These $$$ can be deployed elsewhere. In addition, their manufacturing is not hamstrung by capital/equipment acquired to build cars from 50 years ago. Their management structure does not come from having to manufacture in the last millennium.Battery / Motor Tech. Probably best in class for commercialized product. Also, development of batteries supports other businesses like the stationary power business which supports the PV business. One strategic option is a pivot away from cars to batteries, supporting a variety of applications ( cars, backup power, etc).Software - driver assist is constantly learning with industry leading number of miles with real drivers/ real conditions. This feeds the neural network optimization of the self driving software. Engineers are also constantly developing better ways to extract more range/ power from the same hardware. If Tesla can win the race to level 5 autonomous, it is possible to license.Over the Air (OTA) updates- my car gets more capable over time with version updates similar to a smartphone.Supercharger network. Range anxiety is real. Having a proprietary network offers strategic options- build a walled garden ( today) or create new business/ income by selling the service to non-Tesla (future)?Internet sales. I hate dealerships. When you buy from a a legacy brand, you are defacto supporting all that overhead. Even if you bought the car online, all that cost has been baked in. With the dealership model of distribution, the consumer is paradoxically, the product! The dealers are actually the customer. OEM’s need to keep them fat and happy for mutual benefit. The purchase could even be seen as a loss-leader for more lucrative add-ons that come with it. Given the simplicity of EV design, there’s less need for maintenance, reduces the need for dealer network of workshops. You can buy a Tesla at the bar, on a smartphone in 10 minutes. It comes with competitive financing and delivery takes a few weeks. (Not quite the negative working capital model of 2000’s Dell but compare that with lots full of speculative models and useless options.) Buying a Tesla is more similar to ordering a new iPhone than it is, buying a car. I know people that waited 8 months for an Audi. A business model built around e-commerce is different from one built around dealerships that happen to offer internet sales.Speed. Clear vision and pursuit of the “move fast and break things” aspiration allows them to innovate, adapt and outgrow the competition. If you had a 100 Billion dollars, would you invest on Tesla or would you invest on every other automaker? Would you bet against Tesla taking more time to resolve an issue that came up on Friday morning? Tesla is in my opinion, the fittest, fastest competitor in the space they compete in.Rabid fan base. The free publicity translates into interest and incredible valuations. This gives Tesla incredible capacity to raise capital to pursue their aspirations. When Tesla Killers are discussed. They talk about one of these aspects. In truth, each point warrants its own dissertation. Having to tackle all these advantages is why all legacy brands are struggling and will continue to struggle.Tesla runs a different race, largely independent of the competition, which means they don’t waste energy thinking about what everyone else is doing. Rather, they can focus on running to their strengths, and building the best product. They develop and commercialize technology faster than their peers, are more organizationally nimble and have more strategic options available to them - support the electrification trend by focusing on supplying class leasing battery technology or support the autonomous mobility trend by supplying class leading self driving technology. This is the hallmark of good strategy- strong pillars that are individually difficult to copy, but form a synergistic package that is compelling and unique.Tesla is a snowflake…a beautiful form of water and ready to transform into a million possibilities to react to the dynamic world we live in.Edit 1- thanks to the feedback, I’ve added a little modifier after the catchy title to better reflect the intent of the article. I will continue to incorporate relevant comments into the article so please keep the suggestions coming. 100 upvotes in a day, 580 over the weekend? Thank you all for the support!Edit 2- thanks again for the amazing support and upvotes. Point 8- internet sales. Realized that OEM’s sell dealerships customers rather than cars. Evolving the idea of a snowflake to reflect infinite possibilities.I am interested in writing a similar article on the post Covid world. Please link or dm a question I can react to.

Its just works. No need to spend lots of time reading manuals or dealing with settings! Other software that I've used requires a lot of manual configuration or just doesn't work. it is a big upgrade from the free products that normally restrict edits.
