If a person was to get rabies, would they go around attacking people like an animal would?

The story of a taxi driver, which I heard from another taxi driver, who got infected by rabies. 2009 he was bitten by a stray dog, and within few hours he went to the doctor for an anti-rabies shot. He got the first shot right away. A person who is exposed and has never vaccinated against rabies should get four doses of rabies vaccine – one dose right away, and additional doses on the 3rd, 7th, and 14th days. They should also get another shot called Rabies Immune Globulin at the same time as the first dose. Now, he did get his first and second shot on time but then missed his other two injections. Fast forward 2014, he received a call from a customer for taxing to the airport. During a rainy night, he had body aches and headaches. In the morning, he started his day with a mild fever for a few days. He went to GP for treatment to which GP prescribed him Paracetamol, multivitamin, and rest. He took medicine and left for the client's house. He picked up the client and drove him to the airport. Later in the day, he did his daily chores. While in the market for buying something he got agitated, and he said the cashier was about to hit him. They called the store manager, and the argument concluded into checking the cameras to see what happened. To everyone's surprise, nor cashier or the driver moved a muscle. There was only a verbal argument. Back at home, he told his wife about what happened that he saw cashier hitting him.Days passed, and his fever went from mild (99.5F) to fluctuating high (102-103). He still kept taking Paracetamol and multivitamins. Weird thoughts and hallucinations continued with depressions and him crying no reason. Next came the severe back pain and random seizures. GP wrote them for tests and asked for medical history in which they revealed the dog bite. They started with the 4x injection cycle. But nothing worked for the poor man. Before the seizure, he'd become violent and even tried to attack his own family. At home, he was tied with chains and couldn't bear the bright morning light. In the last days, even looking at the ceiling fan rotating gave him headaches and seizures. He was fed from a distance and would drool during the seizures. Only his grandfather went to help clean and dress up because the rest of the family was afraid of infection. Within ten days of reappearing rabies, he died.PS: Im looking for followers. What was the most bizarre way you ended up adopting a pet?

Some would say its bizarre to choose to adopt a 13 year old cat in kidney failure who only has 3 teeth and has been returned to the shelter 3 times, but for me I knew it had to be done.My first winter working in the kennel at the vet’s office, there was a beautiful and sweet 13-year-old blue-eyed himalayan mix named Cozy who had been boarding for over a month. She had a purr that would vibrate the cage and she was ALWAYS purring. After a while of taking care of this cat, who had quickly become a favorite for me, I got curious about which of our clients was lucky enough to have such a perfect kitty. As fellow veterinary staff may be able to confirm, beautiful cats aren’t always the friendliest-especially at the vet. So, thats why she stood out to me. After some research, I learned she had actually been with us for so long because her foster parents had decided they couldn’t take care of her anymore, and the shelter she was from was currently full. I also learned she had been adopted and relinquished back to the shelter 3 TIMES due to her late-stage kidney disease and litter box problems. Seeing that she was adoptable, my heart raced. I had just returned the cat I had been long-term pet sitting (for 3 years) back to the owner and was desperate to get a new cat. I was so sad thinking that no one was willing to take care of this sweet girl, just because of her medical history. I knew I wanted her. Problem is, I was only 20 at the time and couldn’t apply to adopt her until I turned 21 6 months later.Fast forward to my 21st birthday and I go to check and see if Cozy is still available and SHE IS. I put my application in that day, and I wake up to an approval email. Two days later, I’m meeting with her newest fosters to take her home. Someone anonymous even covered her $100 adoption fee. I am fortunate enough that since I work at a vet’s office, I get discounts on her treatments for her kidney problems and her levels have been stable for the year I’ve had her (knock on wood). She's a weirdo who stares at walls, licks my toes, wakes me up at 4am and steals my socks from the laundry but now she's MY weirdo and I couldn’t be happier to be her mom.

What should a psychotherapist do if a patient comes to session intoxicated? Let’s assume that we’re not talking about substance abuse treatment.

As others have written, we clearly need to re-schedule the session.I’m surprised nobody mentioned the inherent safety and transportation issues in this scenario. How do we know how much of what the client ingested? How do we know this isn’t an overdose in progress? How do we know she does not have a substance use disorder?Really, we only know our client appears intoxicated. Full stop.Who’s willing to document “client reports smoking .5 joint four hours ago. Denies suicidality. Rescheduled due to intoxication. Client instructed to drive herself home”?We have to write something. And our notes may well be subpoenaed after our client drives into a tree, another car, or off a bridge. The safest, only right thing to do is have the client medically cleared.Family or EMS can transport the intoxicated client to an emergency room, where the very nice medical staff can run labs, conduct a safety assessment, and (once sober) conduct a detailed psychiatric and drug/alcohol history. They might keep her for observation, push for admission to a psychiatric hospital or rehab facility, or arrange safe transportation home. And when she’s ready to return to therapy, it’s time to ask the therapeutic equivalent of “WTF”.
