What phrase is a dead giveaway that someone does the same thing as you?

There are a few:"KUD" (know, understand, do)Annual yearly progress - a rating schools (until recently) were always striving to achieve"highly effective" - the highest rating for a teacher in many evaluation schemes"PD Day" - Professional Development"it's all downhill from here" - what many teachers say after Thanksgiving, referring to the fact that the longest stretch without a vacation in a school year is from Labor Day to Thanksgiving."I only have _____ more years until I can retire". - pretty much every teacher I know who has been doing the job more than about 5 years knows the exact date they can leave the profession. In the US military, is there any preference/favoritism shown to Medal of Honor recipients when it comes to gaining rank?

Yes and no. All things being equal between two individuals, ANY medal will tip the balance when it comes to promotions. But you still need to qualify for that promotion. For enlisted soldiers you still need the professional development courses and meet time in grade/service assignments to make SGT.For NCOs and officers you still need to continue your professional development, have the proper assignments and earn good evaluations. Granted, you’ll be given a great deal of credit for your award, but if you’re not meeting the standard in some fashion, you won’t get a free ride. You still have to perform. After WWII Audie Murphy felt he couldn’t. Even though he was a 1LT, he felt too out of place without the education level of his peers and though he liked the Army, felt that he wouldn’t be able to continue as a career officer.I met one other MOH awardee who was a Battalion Commander when I was a young lieutenant. But you would have never known it. Even in his greens, he wouldn’t wear it (although his entire command knew about it). Only on a New Year’s Day reception at the CG’s residence did I ever see him wear the medal, and I’m convinced that happened only due to a direct order by the CG.

As a data scientist, what are some tools you use that save a huge amount of your time?

PyCharm: Python IDE for Professional Developers by JetBrains - this one. What it does? It gives you bunch of content analysis tools for Python including support for it’s purely decorative typing annotations. This, inter-allia, makes it feel sort of static typed language IDE, allows automated refactoring and renaming and underlines immediately many errors that would otherwise come out at the runtime. No other Python/R IDE I know comes even close to that.By the way, after few years of using Jupyter/JupyterLab I think that it is rather overrated, and you need a real IDE as a data analyst/statistician/scientist. OFC it is great for viewing plots and simple exploratory stats. But actual programming in it results in quick code quality degradation and endless woes related to functions and methods being polluted with variables from global scope, long running jobs crashing due to stupid misspellings and overall poor integration with typical development workflows.OOTH every cloud has a silver lining - struggles with Jupyter convinced me fully to some FP concepts that helped me to improve at my job: immutable objects with higher abstractions of control flow (for examples see Pandas’ amazing fluid API or a little immutable collection library I maintain kzawisto/mc), pure functions with caching and lazy evaluations.
