One Span in the Center of Pamban Bridge was having the Mechanism to fold up to give way for ships passing through the Sea.( 7) Old Steel Bridge in Kochi with a Mid Span having the Mechanism to fold up for the passage of Vessels passing through the Sea.This Old Mattancherry Bridge was built in 1940 by Mr Robert Charles Bristo. The bridge was built with wood and steel, and is a fine example of British Engineering. The bridge served its Designed Life Span till 1998 when the new bridge came close to it. Today the old Mattancherry Bridge is allowed only for two wheelers .(8) Steel Bridge 128 years Old in Feroke in Kozhikode .Now also all kind of vehicles are using this road as it is the only bridge connecting Feroke with Kozhikode. This is old road bridge. the bridge was completed in 1888. British Engineers has adopted a special method of filling its pillars with molten lead to add Strength and Flexibility .(7) Suspension Bridge / Hanging Bridge in PunalurThe first motorable bridge in India, constructed in 1877. It was built as a Suspension Bridge / Hanging bridge due to lack of Concrete Technology at that period and situated near the Kerala Tamil Nadu border . This bridge is known as the lap of Western Ghats and have a length of 400 foot. It was constructed in 1877 by Scottish Engineer Mr Albert Henry . This suspension bridge was built to prevent wild animals from crossing into the town from the forest area of " Old Kattu Pathanapuram ". As local residents were sceptical, the bridge engineer MrAlbert Henry demonstrated the Strength of Bridge by sitting in a Country Boat in the river under bridge with his family while Six Elephants crossed through the bridge .This may be the only bridge having the deck with Wood . Government has done the renovation of bridge and maintaining it as a Monument of Public Attraction.
