Cashier Stand: Fill & Download for Free

Years ago I worked for a building supply store. We had a customer come in and wanted to return a ceiling fan but he started raising cane about how we ripped him off and the product just wasn’t any good. He even became verbally abuse to my cashier. As a manger I was called to authorize the refund at the cashier stand. He started gripping me out too. I didn’t recognize the brand and found a sale sticker from one of our competitors. I showed if to my cashier. The customer continued his rant. I let him go on for another half hour as I couldn’t get a word in.. Finally he died down and I said :Sir, I would love to give you a discount but you didn’t buy it here’. He started to bow up but I showed him the store sticker. He shut up and stomped out of the store.

Don't drive home, drive to a high traffic area and call the police. If you can, keep driving but keep away from home. Most of us don't know where police stations are but may know where a Walmart is, so I'd drive to Walmart, stop the car right in front of the entry doors and wait. If the car is still present and waiting, then run inside and go straight to a cashier stand and ask them to call the police and their security team - that you're being followed.For some that suggested store employees would not be a big help - the point is to get where people are, where it’s brightly lit, and where - and this is the best part - where there are security cameras in a parking lot.

Pipelining is a type of parallelism.Here are simple concrete examples from the real world (just to illustrate the point):Pipelining:Let's suppose a grocery store checkout line is getting backed up. At this store you are checked out, bagged, and walked to your car. The cashier can only go so fast though. She has to scan the items, slide them down to the bag area, grab next item, take payment, bag up the items, load the cart, walk customer to car and come back, all before she can move on to the next customer.Solution? Pipelining. Add a bagger to the bagging section at the bottom of the cashier stand that will bag items and load the customer cart while the cashier pulls items through and takes payment. We have now added a second stage to our cashier stand pipeline. A new customer can now walk up and start checking out. We could further optimize our pipeline by adding an additional employee who walks customers to the car. It still takes roughly the same amount of time to service a single customer but it has been divided into “stages” which means we will be churning out more customers with this method.Parallelism:Let's assume the same problem as above prior to adding the pipelining.Solution? Add more of all employees and check out lanes. Now you are simply processing more lines of customers and cashier's at the same time (potentially with added pipelining benefits on each line — further improving efficiency).The key thing to understand here is that pipelining is really a clever divide and conquer approach. Parallelism is also a type of divide and conquer approach but it's more of a “brute force” method which is essentially adding more “cpus” to do more things at the same time.It's also important to note that pipelining still needs a way to operate some section of its pipeline stages concurrently. If it does not then it's essentially just time spliced multi-tasking. That scenario would be similar to how the human brain works, or how Windows, and other OS’s, perform basic “multi-tasking”. We can't really multitask without having another brain, or cpu (core). Essentially we just very quickly switch between the same set of tasks to give the illusion that all are being completed simultaneously and without apparent delay.
