Don’t let anyone make you feel like a freak, or a creep or a “pedo” for having attractions/feelings towards a 16 year old student. While not an adult legally, as far as nature is concerned, she is a fully developed female human (went thru puberty and able to carry child). Historically this was looked upon as normal in pretty much every different human culture and region.BUT, it is very illegal, irresponsible and not morally right to ever do anything with your 16 year old student. Even if you were 21, any type of relationship other than a normal teacher-student one is inappropriate and illegal. You are in a position of power over her, and your job as a teacher is to look out for the well being of your students and educate and guide them. Your students are not to be taken advantage of; even if she was an 18 year old senior and 100% complicit in an extracurricular relationship. There’s so many woman over 18 and graduated from high school to have relationships with.You could talk about the ethics and “grey-ness” of this situation all day. Having attraction towards a post pubescent person is not unnormal or wrong. But pursuing a relationship other than a 100% platonic one is a no-no. If you really don’t think you will be able to control yourself, you should look into a different line of work, or transfer to another school or district. It wouldn’t hurt talking to a cognitive behavioral therapist either and getting to the root cause of your feelings and your fear of acting on it. You’re not a bad or creepy person as of now, but you have to be in 100% control of your behaviors and feelings to avoid crossing any lines.Dont be a guy who gets in trouble for doing something with a student. Be a guy who is in control of his own mind. You should be focusing on relationships with women who aren’t your students and more age relatable. 20 years is a huge age gap for people to relate easily. Stay out of trouble and be a good role model. ALSO, If this girl is purposely tempting/pursuing you in anyway, LET your superiors know about the situation ASAP. Don’t mention your feelings obviously (and get in control of them). But make sure the principal know about your students behavior towards you if there is something to report. Don’t wait for her to get you in trouble if you’ve actually done nothing wrong.
