This is unlikely for several reasons.First; there is something called muscle memory. Do you know the phrase “just like riding a bike”? Even if you haven’t ridden a bike for 20 years, your body remembers. Many of the steps of surgery we have done over and over in residency, and are unlikely to fail us.Second: many surgeons practice visualization. In residency, we used to wait until our third year to learn cystoscopy technique. When I was a second-year resident, our program director divided us up into two groups. Half of us she had visualize the steps of cystoscopy over and over prior to ever laying hands on a cystoscope. The other half learned the usual way by doing. Those of us in the visualization group mastered the technique quicker. Just as baseball players and elite athletes visualize successful plays, many surgeons visualize the steps of a procedure prior to performing. I regularly do this prior to performing some of my less common procedures. I have visualized steps to techniques that may be required in an emergency, some of which I’ve never had to perform. Because of this, I was once able to perform a technique I had only read about to safely deliver a baby in a very complicated C-section.Third: If I can, I perform the steps of my surgeries in the exact same order with each case. This means I am unlikely to miss a step or forget to visualize something I intended to see. For example, with every laparoscopy I first look at the omentum and bowel under my trocar insertion site to make sure there’s no injury. Then I direct my camera to the liver and diaphragm, then the stomach, then the appendix, before ever starting the procedure in the pelvis. My laparoscopic hysterectomies are performed in the same order as my open hysterectomies.Fourth: The underlying premise of this question is correct. One of the most important risk factors for a surgical error or complications is the number of procedures that surgeon has performed. A surgeon who has performed 500 hysterectomies is more skilled than one who has performed 25. You are more likely to make mistakes as a novice. One of my very talented partners laughs about a hysterectomy he performed by himself fresh out of residency. He managed to cut on the wrong side of an artery he has clamped, resulting in quite a bit of bleeding. He got it under control. When I first joined my practice right out of residency, for the first six months I operated with one of the other physicians assisting me. This is a common approach for most surgical specialties. Many hospitals require it.So, for the sake of argument let’s say a new surgeon has some kind of a panic attack and is unable to remember the procedure steps. I suspect they would call in a partner or colleague to assist.

Oh, I don't even get any opportunities to do interviews when I apply to tech companies. My first time ever to finally go through to a screening technical challenge. At least next time I have an idea on what to expect but I feel I might not be able to find the time to prepare well for such.The challenge was on HackerRank and you are given a week in which to attempt the challenge. Once you start, you get a 3 hour timer to do 3 coding questions. The first question was okay but I got stuck on the second one debugging a “divide-by-zero” error which the HackerRank compiler did not throw, it only said "~ no response on stdout ~ . "The program ran but with no output so I almost panicked but you know me, I don't panic :) I managed to get the code to display something after finding the error but it had already consumed too much time, it was too late.It was my very first time using the HackerRank environment but I have no excuses, I failed and I enjoyed the challenge, thanks Uber.I failed because I was not ready, I did not think Uber would give me a chance but they did and for that I am honored.It is a step forward for me, I have failed many times in life so I understand how failure is the best teacher. Next time, if there will ever be a next time, I am sure to be able to do far better.I thought Google would be the one to take a risk on me but I was wrong, Uber took the risk.I think it is more about giving someone a chance especially if they show some serious potential than being too strict, you never know who holds the next breakthrough ideas in AI.I am not saying Google is bad and all that, I totally understand that they are a business and try to minimize hiring talent that may not fit into their culture and goals. I also think they just get too many applications from really talented people around the world which easily overwhelms them.Personally, I have never been in any formal employement, I am an entrepreneur and also an independent AI researcher. I am fascinated that my achievements so far, like writing on Quora and doing research in AI at a personal level is starting to open some doors.Yes I am already in an early stage startup but that doesn't count yet. It would only count if and when the startup becomes successful and the odds of that happening are quite very slim.My lesson from that short Uber AI screening process is that I need to prepare adequately for screening tests and interviews before even thinking of sending an application. In the past times, I had been applying whenever I just felt like but that shouldn't be the case, prepare for potential interviews then send an application.But that must be very time consuming to do so I am going to pause for a while on the “real” job applications and focus on finishing what I started.I have projects that need to be completed, until then, I will focus on those projects and do the very best I possibly can to build the next generation of machine intelligence algorithms.Hope this helps.

If this is something that happened during residency, then you should be covered by the insurance carrier of the training program. I don't think that you should do anything in reply directly. But contact your residency director and forward the letter to he/her and to your department chair. They have a risk management team that takes care of this stuff.Normally this would be handled by your insurance carrier but it doesn't apply since you weren't in practice then.When a lawsuit is filed, everyone who's name is on the chart is included initially. It's done so that statue of limitations requirements are met. Then the plaintiff attorneys start throwing out doctors during discovery. There is absolutely no reason to panic and certainly no reason to make career changes. An intent to sue is not a suit. Just like you do with patients, get the information first before jumping to conclusions and keep your wits about you.I think you will feel much better after speaking with someone from risk management for the residency training program.Anyone who thinks that doctors take malpractice lightly is greatly mistaken and the huge cost of doctors practicing defensively accounts for a lot of waste every year in the American system which is unique with respect to medical liability. It's much easier for doctors to order unnecessary tests than go through the stress of litigation.==
