What is RA and TA in IIT Bombay? What are the details about them and which one is better for a job after an Mtech?

Thanks for the A2AThe full forms have been already mentioned and the official difference/similarity too. Credits requirement are same for both.. The responsibilities different; I.e RAs are a part of a lab and have to conduct lab sessions and exams whereas TAs have to help professors grade assignments and exams and take tutorials. The number of hours can vary depending on the prof you are working with. I would any day recommend taking a RA course because of the following unsaid differences, (talking from an electrical engineering perspective; not sure about other branches) 11 courses and the thesis project have to be credited for getting a degree, which translates to completing 8–9 courses in 1st year to get sufficient time for doing justice to your project. And that is a challenging task. U get literally no time to even breathe; infact you have to compromise on the quality too in some assignments and courses.. The assignments are non-trivial and there are strict policies and checks against plagiarism.. I know people who have left MTech because they couldn't cope up with this pressure. On the other hand, being an RA, not only can you do justice to each subject that you take, but take and study more subjects too. I was able to do around 15–16 courses along with holding a POR in every year. Not only that, you get to explore other options too - technical or otherwise.. and trust me there are 1000s of things to do and millions of perks (in terms of activities happening, knowledge being shared etc) that you get being in IITB. Consider that one year as an investment in self growth. Even if you think you can cope up with the pressure of being a TA, take a RAship and use that extra one year to polish your self. Also, most of the profs prefer working with RAs as significant research can happen in 1.5–2 years as opposed to 1–1.5 year that a TA gets.. Most of the TAs I know hold a similar opinion.. Yes, there is no difference when it comes to placements, but trust me, no amount of money will be able to buy that one extra year you get afterwards. Ofcourse, it all depends on you at the end. On How well you utilize it! Good luck! :)Edit: I forgot to mention, RAs are paid slightly more than TAs (during the duration of study) (if it matters)

Will my grade 9 & 10 GPA matter for applications to colleges as an international (Indian) student?

The elite Private US colleges, like MIT, will examine your Entire high school transcript and will ignore GPA (meaningless), and use the recommendation letter submitted by your Guidance Counselor as guidance in reviewing your transcript. They will expect to see Steady improvement until you are at the top and then consistency in remaining at the top. Then they will read, in detail, the letters of recommendation submitted by your teachers from junior/senior years for true insight into You as an Academic. Of course, you as a total Human Being is very important as well….. Read all of this and the links: Stu Schmill endorses report on consideration of character in college admissionsNOTE: MIT and most if not all of the elite Private US colleges have self-imposed quotas on international students. That drives the acceptance rate down from 8% to less than 3% for international applicants. Indeed, currently MIT only has 18 undergraduates students from India, but with No Quota on international graduate students, MIT has Over 300 graduate students from India in Fully-Funded graduate student slots. It is Far easier to attend a very good undergraduate university in your country and then become a fully-funded graduate student in the USA, then it is to be admitted as a freshman in the USA.All the best.

Hi! My daughter is in the process of selecting her grade 9 courses. She has the option of selecting advance level courses for each subject. To show rigorous high school curriculum for college admissions how many advance level courses are recommended?

She should consult with her guidance counselor.if she’s academically strong she can take a full slate of honors or advanced level courses.Colleges know which high schools are academically rigorous. They will want to see that she’s taken the best available courses at her high school.
