PDF Editor FAQ
Can a life insurance company contact my doctor and ask for my health records if I did not provide consent?
No, but in order to apply for life insurance, you’ll need to give them consent to request attending physicians statements and medical records. They’ll also do a prescription check and access the Medical Information Bureau (MIB) which will have records of previous life insurance applications. This article explains more about what records life insurance companies request and why: Why Does a Life Insurer Need an Attending Physician Statement (APS)?
How do I not tell HR about my tumor operation? Is it okay to keep this information private and just ask for a 5-day sick leave?
Complete the necessary paperwork to request the projected time off for your procedure. I believe you will be requesting SICK TIME, if that is what you wish to use. You are under no obligation to disclose DETAILS of your medical issue.I am sure you will bring a Physician's statement covering your 5 day sick leave. Your Physician's statement can be generic, such as _____. _____has been under my care, and can resume. duties on whatever the date you return. If for any reason you are delayed in returning to work as was requested, I know you will notify your Supervisor, according to policy. Let that supervisor know you will bring a Physician's note covering ALL sick time requested. I am not at all suggesting you will be delayed in returning to work. THE MAIN THING OS KEEPING YOUR SUPERVISOR INFORMED OF YOUR HAVING TO TAKE TIME OFF. I have no idea of your facility allows "may return to light duty." MANY WORK SITES HAVE "NO SUCH POLICY" OF "LIGHT DUTY, OR "NO LIFTINGOVER ______ POUNDS. Many work sites will NOT allow an employee to return work until FULL DUTY IS RESUMED. Let your Physician know the policy YOUR FACILITY has in place, if this issue arises. If you have a really trusted coworker you want to tell about your situation, then that is completely up to you.Best wishes to you!
Why is Donald Trump not being given the time and support he needs to rule the US, unlike Obama and other presidents before him?
Please note : I originally answered this question without commenting on the difference between “rule” and “govern” … I was slammed for not making that distinction, so I edited my reply to include the comment (next paragraph) at the top … only to get slammed by other people who said I should not make any distinction. Oh well, darned if you do, darned if you don’t.Rule? Presidents do NOT Rule. Kings rule. Presidents and Congress and the Courts together make one “government”. Dictators might “rule”, but Presidents must follow the rules. Unfortunately, Trump admires Putin’s style of government, so he tries to demand that everything be done his way.Support? The question states “as a fact” that Obama was given the support he needed. No, in fact, Obama very specifically was NOT supported by many Americans, even though he received a much larger percent of the popular vote and the electoral vote. In fact, members of Republican leadership made public announcements that they would block anything that Obama supported.Time? Trump has been given LOTS of time to make his presence known in Washington. One of the ways that presidents do this is to fill many patronage jobs in Washington and around the world. Some of these jobs require confirmation by the Senate, where sometimes, the opposition party has been known to block nominations, but the Republicans took care of this by changing the rules to only require 51% of the vote to approve a nomination, and they have 52% of the Senate and a larger % of the House. But … let’s ignore that so that we can address the potential complaint that somehow, the Democrats are still blocking most of these jobs. The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of these patronage jobs do NOT require congressional approval. All Trump has to do is put people into those jobs. Most presidents do “fire” the previous patronage jobs as a matter of habit, but many of them, Obama included, wait until they have people read to take a position before he fires the predecessor. Trump fired them in January, forced them to leave, and even today, many of those jobs are unfilled. If Trump had kept those previously appointed people in office, more things would be getting done, and he’d be more motivated to replace the people who were not doing his kind of job.I hope that Congress passes new legislation that says that a President cannot fire someone “without cause” unless he has someone ready to take that position. To be clear, this still allows a president to fire someone who needs to be fired, but it gives Congress the right to ask him for the reason. With this example, when Trump wanted to fire the Acting Attorney General, this suggested law would have required him to nominate her successor before firing her, unless he could prove a valid reason to do so immediately.Grace Period: Every president is given a 100-day “grace period”. After that one hundred days, they are expected to know how to do their job. Too many people are saying that we need to give Trump another grace period. When most presidents learn how to do their jobs by doing the work, we might wonder if Trump isn’t learning to do the job because he’s not doing the work? Is he instead, still campaigning for his position? Telling everyone he’s doing a great job, even while he proves that he leaves a lot to be desired. The Future?I hope that congress passes some laws that must apply to all future presidential candidates, such asTax returns must be released before the candidate declares his candidacy.School transcripts must be released, or the school can release a summary statement showing all courses completed with passing grades, and approximate ranking (perhaps quartile (top fourth) or by decile (second tenth) ranks)Candidate must take and pass the same Citizenship Exam that all immigrants must pass to become US citizensThe Emoluments Clause must become very clearly applicable to the PresidentCandidates must put all assets in a blind trust and require 100% transparency from all of their foundations. All Candidates must submit to health examinations from a bi-partisan board of doctors (Naval?). Personal physician statements of heath are not to be accepted, but may be present during those exams. (Thanks, Roy Nelson.)New Presidents cannot remove current position holders until they have nominees ready to take their place, except with congressional approval. (I added this because Trump fired hundreds of people, removed them from their positions, and hasn’t even bothered to nominate anyone to fill many of those slots. These are for jobs that don’t even require congressional approval, yet I’m sure that he’s blaming the Democrats for those positions not being filled.)I’m sure I could come up with other idea. Please use “Suggest Edits” to suggest additions to this list and include your name like Roy did for #6. (I reserve the right to make edits.)If you are interested in more discussion on this topic, please see the comments. Some of the comments there should become answers of their own right.* * *I am looking forward to reading this issue of Newsweek magazine at our local library. I bet that DJT is fuming.I didn’t see it at Newsweek.com, but this was the top story when I went there just now:I look forward to seeing what happens next.
