The Real Reason Why Kaikeyi Asked 14 Years Vanvas for Ram! not for 5,10,12,15 or 20 years:Kaikeyi was the daughter of King Ashwapati of the country. If seen, Kaikeyi's 2nd groom gave important direction to the story of Ramayana.When Kaikeyi asked for 14 years of exile for Rama not for 5,10,15 or 20 years from King Dasharatha,3 main reasons are told.1) First reason - This was an administrative reason. The story of Ramayana is from the time of Tretayuga.At that time it was the rule that if a king leaves his throne for 14 years, he loses the right to become king. This rule is written in Valmiki Ramayana in Ayodhya.During those times, not being physically present for as long as 14 years without being in touch or any news was considered as a sign of death.Kaikeyi knew this, so she asked for 14 years of exile. It is a different matter that later Bharata refused to sit on the throne and after ending his exile, only Rama sat on the throne.Similarly, in the Dwaparyug era, it was the rule that if a king leaves his reign for 13 years, then his right to rule ends. Valmiki is a verse from Ramayana:The meaning of the slok is that Rama will live his whole life like asceticism for 14 years in forest while living life by wearing tree bark, animal skin and hair.Kaikeyi and Manthara deliberately asked for 14 years of exile for Rama as this would secure the throne of Bharata forever.3) Third reason:The decision to make Ram the king of Ayodhya was taken by King Dasaratha and Muni Vasistha through discussions. It is said that Kaikeyi came to know about this after 14 days.
