PDF Editor FAQ
What are your favorite moments from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time?
Some of my favorite spoiler-filled moments include:Dumai’s Wells (obviously). The battle was awesome, the Asha’man defeating the Aes Sedai was brutal and shocking, and it was probably the first time I realized just how powerful Rand was, and how dangerous.Speaking of powerful, dangerous, and Rand, my next pick would be the balefire at Natrim’s Barrow. The scene was so well written, I felt right in the thick of that, and Rand’s determination and power was strong there, how he was willing to wipe out over a hundred people to kill Graendal. Also, the fact that Graendal escaped and survived that made her far more interesting to me.Perrin meets his cousin. In The Shadow Rising, Perrin is at Emond’s Field fighting off Trollocs and dealing with the Whitecloaks. Here he learns that his entire family is dead. Near the end of the book, in the final fight, Perrin meets this child who says he’s his cousin. I was all caught up in the scene and feeling bad for Perrin, so this struck me as one of the best happy moments in the series. It’s a shame that boy was never brought up of mentioned again…Egwene’s Death. I didn’t actually like Egwene until Knife of Dreams. (Sidenote: Egwene persisting as Amyrlin in the White Tower is a favorite storyline) After KoD, she was kind of a favorite character, and I was sad to see her die at the end. The way it’s written, the circumstances, all of it was just very powerful, and is one of my favorite moments in A Memory of Light, as well as the whole series.Rand loses his hand. I’ve always liked when characters are physically damaged, and Rand losing his hand was a shock. I especially appreciate that there was no lame magical reason for his hand to return. The Dragon has been Reborn. I actually did not see Rand being the Dragon coming, mainly because of the way RJ wrote the Dragon out as almost an antagonistic force, and the fact that I figured Rand was done being special. First he was ta’veren, then he could use magic (itself a shock!) then he was the Dragon. It surprised me and made me eager to read the next book. Speaking of the next! The Battle at Falme. Between Egwene and co’s rescue from enslavement, Mat blowing the Horn of Valere (itself a favorite moment!) and Rand fighting the blade master, then getting branded with the heron, then fighting Ba’alzamon in the sky, and taking his first near-fatal wound, as well as the Whitecloak army attacking the Seanchan and the death of Geofram Bornhald, there was so much happening at this battle, and I loved it.Rand atop Dragonmount. I loved the imagery, the inner conflict, and the eventual resolution with his own mind and Lews Therin. I did not expect Rand to ever contemplate destroying the world.Rand fights the Seanchan. The only thing I liked in The Path of Daggers was Rand’s campaign against the Seanchan, who were working their way toward Illian. I loved reading about the army he was using, all the side characters he had with him, and I enjoyed seeing Seanchan captains’ perspective as a mysterious force (Rand!) destroyed their armies in the mountain passes. And the campaign ends with Rand using Callandor to destroy a large Seanchan army, but in his madness and over-powerdness, ends up taking out half his own army, causing him to flee back to (I believe Caemlyn). Great plot.Rand lives. I love that Rand lives in the end. (Although I hate that he left Min with the Seanchan!!!) The body switch was awesome, the pipe -lighting was mysterious and ambiguous, and the final paragraph was so good.I’m pretty sure I could go on and on (that’s part of the reason I’ve not mentioned Mat. He’s got too much awesomeness…) so I will end it here. Thanks for reading my WoT ramble!
