PDF Editor FAQ

Why does Sutter Health charge $220.00 for CPT code 99213 (doctor visit for an established patient)? This seems excessive especially given that I am paying cash and spent about 15 minutes with the doctor.

The CPT codes are for billing Medicare and private insurance who pay a fraction of the charges based on negotiated or established prices. That is why patients often see hospital and physician bills of $80,000 and payments of $40,000. The patient is responsible for the limit of their deductible which is generally a couple grand.Cash patients s should always discuss prices before visits, tests and procedures. You can probably negotiate a cash discount on your visit even now.Keep in mind that whatever the final charge is for the physician visit, that isn’t by any means take home pay. Doctors typically have nearly $200,000 in student debt on graduation. Physicians’ practices are paying for employee salaries, healthcare benefits to employees and themselves, rent, business tax, malpractice insurance, workers compensation insurance, toxic waste disposal charges, etc.

How expensive is it to get an allergy test?

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) for example, has an allergy department that handles this. There are likely similar services at other clinics nationwide. Two factors affect the cost to you and prevent a concise answer here. Without an insurance plan the fee may be a good deal higher than the reimbursement rate PAMF's parent, Sutter Health has negotiated with insurers. So it is better twice to do it as an insured and to pay only the co-pay amount. Also, the cost may vary depending on the suspected allergens or need for a battery test depending on how the possibilities can be narrowed by discussing your symptoms with a physician. They will need to know of any dietary, environmental or chemical exposure, medication, personal stress, seasonal and family history information. The complete cost will include the physician visit(s) and any lab fees. Explain your own circumstances when you inquire..This is not medical advice and I am not a physician.

Why do Americans think universal healthcare won’t work in their country when it works in all other developed nations?

Because that’s what they believe. It has nothing to do with objective facts or observation. I believe the sun will rise tomorrow and my mother loves me. Others believe universal healthcare won’t work even though it does in much of the world. I can’t force someone to believe in Jesus or in a system. I keep seeing a POTUS who seems to either not be aware or not care there’s a US Constitution and quite a crowd (about 40% of voters apparently) that believes that’s ok. I’m at a loss as to how I could reason past that.Further cooperation across the US, in government and in business has generally not been increasing except in scenarios where more profit is extracted from preexisting sources.Cooperation and delegation of concerns is the solution to the problem. We have an environment which generally is the opposite in all respects.Doctors are responsible for adhering to evidence based science in their care and generally they barely manage that. Plus their education costs too much.Government is responsible for guiding the process and delegating execution and look how onerous HIPAA or Federal licensing are (or immigration or taxation!), let alone a common payment and reporting system that’s easily auditable. We have 50 States and several territories with lots of capacity for negotiating rates appropriate to their region, consumers and needs, yet I’m not aware any of this happens. It’s as though no conservative or liberal or left-leaning person can come together to recognize America is surrounded by operations with higher overall effectiveness. 17% of GDP (2019, prior to the current downturn, the military is less than 5% GDP) could be improved on quite easily with some deliberate steps. First might be disconnecting this from a job. It’s ironic I can go signup with my credit card for $6/month Gmail/GSuite or walk into the San Carlos Sutter Health with the same credit card to pay $200+ for an office visit yet after all these years we have this situation. Personally I think America is just going in reverse. Too much tv from the 80’s and 90’s and now screens for kids ensuring steadily increasing dysfunction. Instead of cooperation in society we get this. Faux-pas are now micro-aggressions and everyone’s unsafe seems the prevailing outlook. Emigration might be the answer? I’ll keep voting though, maybe it’ll turn around.

Wow! Customer service is A1! I needed to fill out some forms for an outfit, a one-time thing, and signed up for the trial month. Later in the month I tried to cancel the trial period before my credit card was charged the $20, but I forgot which email account I'd used to sign up, so I was unable to log in to my CocoDoc account. Today, when I received the email saying my credit card was charged the $20, I was able to contact CocoDoc since I now knew which account I'd used. I contacted them via "Contact Support" in their website and explained my situation. OMG! When it said I should receive an email in 20 minutes or less, I was thinking, "Yeah, right!" but it was literally only minutes before I received an email saying they would be glad to cancel the subscription and refund my money. If I ever need this type of service on a more regular basis, I will definitely be signing up with this company!
