PDF Editor FAQ

What was the worst experience you've ever had at a car dealership?

Citrus Kia in Florida. I did my research and knew the Kia I wanted was the best bang for the buck and highly rated by owners. I opted to lease and everything was signed including the lease agreement with a lender. A few days later I was called to the dealer to “sign something else”. That was male bovine fecal matter. I was told I didn’t get the lease and would have to purchase the car with a particular lender. My trade in had begun a journey to an alternate universe so I kinda had no choice since I’m an old, burned out cripple. No negotiations, no nothing. They’ll never see me again. Not even for free maintenance and covered repairs. Be careful out there! Trust no one.Oh, love the car….

How do I get in-state tuition when living out of state?

You'll have to apply for residency for the state, THEN apply as an in-state student with the college. For the state of Florida, you'll need at least TWO of the following documentations to prove you live in the state: Mortgage or lease agreement, voter's registration card, vehicle registration car or title, boat regsitration, proof of residence letter/application, utility bill within the last 60 days with an address in FL, auto payment with FL address, selective service card, insurance, W2, or mail from a state federal county or city government agency. Of course BOTH documents must have your FL address.Drivers License Identification RequirementsFollowing that, the state will acknowledge as a resident. THEN you must go to the university and apply as an in-state student. Please note, just because you have a FL driver's license and the state sees you as a residence, does NOT mean the university will. Generally universities require you provide proof leading back a minimum of 5yrs. That is to say they'll likely ask for an auto insurance document or utility bill dating back 5+yrs, or driver's license with an issue date of 5years or greater. Once the university approves you as an in-state student, THEN you'll get the benefits. But just so it's been said, if you apply for in-state status and are rejected/declined at the university, it doesn't mean you're no longer a student, but just that you don't get the in-state "benefits". The process is the same for most colleges with little exception. In short, you'll need to prove you've been living in the state for generally AT LEAST 5years.

Have you ever been rejected?

In the summer of 1990, I returned from a Studies Abroad tour of Europe while getting my Bachelor's of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Florida, and was greeted at the airport by my husband with our eviction notice. We'd been living at Tower Oaks Glen apartments, and my husband had faithfully paid the manager, who faithfully paid the owner, who apparently didn't pay the bank. It was sold to some other bank who started sending three day eviction notices to some, but not all, of the tenants. I determined later that folks who qualified for government assistance stayed - the family above us had a stack of three tires on their balcony which were still there a year later, along with their rundown Toyota.Hubby called an attorney who commiserated, but said it was technically legal as we had no contract or lease agreement with the new owners (and no security deposit with them either). My husband was just mad enough to go to the Gainesville Sun (local newspaper) and they ran a story about how “Karen Cashon is returning home on [date] from Europe with no idea that she has no place to live.” The new owner/bank did promptly extend the notice to ten days after the story ran, and we were able to rally the troops and move all our crap to a storage unit in Gainesville, and our personal belongings to my parent's house (Clearwater, FL).I have never before or since left an apartment I was leaving uncleaned, but other neighbors told us about the lack of security deposit being returned. So, the appliances, bathrooms, carpeting: I cleaned nothing. For my senior year, I shared an apartment with a friend getting her Architecture degree, while my husband and our cat stayed at my parent's house, sleeping in my old twin bed in my pink bedroom. That's dedication for you.
