Calvin Coolidge came into office after a period of rapid government expansion under Woodrow Wilson, and the unexpected death of Warren G. Harding who followed Wilson into the White House. Calvin immediately began putting restraints back on government power.He cut taxes for everyone, and removed them completely for some 2 million Americans. By 1927 only the wealthiest 2% paid any income tax at all. By holding the line on spending, he was able to pay off 1/4 of America’s national debt after raising taxes. He removed Wilson’s authoritarian industrial policies and oversaw a period of great economic growth.Harding’s predecessor, progressive Democrat Woodrow Wilson was extremely racist, even by the standards of his time. Wilson had helped shepherd the rebirth of the KKK. During the “Progressive Era,” the KKK was just one of the many paramilitary organizations that could be counted on to rough up those overly critical of Wilson’s agenda.With the support of Woodrow Wilson and other Progressives, the ranks of the KKK swelled into the millions. During the 1920 campaign season there were attempts to discredit Warren G. Harding as being partially black. Whatever his ancestry, Harding was elected during what what quite possibly the most racist period in American history.After Harding’s death, Calvin deliberately chose to chart a different path than the racist progressives. Coolidge was known to be devoid of racial prejudice and had very positive Record on Civil Rights. In his first State of the Union he spoke in favor of the rights of African Americans. "just as sacred as those of any other citizen" under the U.S. Constitution and that it was a "public and a private duty to protect those rights." He spoke out against lynching.He signed legislation guaranteeing citizenship of Native-Americans living on Reservations.Not coincidentally, the ranks of the KKK collapsed during his administration.During the Coolidge Administration, and because of his fairly libertarian policies, the prosperity of Americans increased at the fastest pace of any time in American history.

No, Democrats did not create this situation. It only began in April when Trump announced “zero tolerance.” Now it looks like the policy may end with Trump’s executive order. Suffice it to say, neither of these actions involved Democrats.The reason Trump initiated this appalling policy and then lied and blamed the Democrats for it is because he’s using this as leverage to get the Democrats to vote for his border wall. Let me repeat that: Trump is using traumatized children to blackmail Democrats into succumbing to his will.Republicans are divided between acting like human beings and supporting their president. One cannot do both at the same time, so they’re having to choose.Trump is the most malevolent president in modern US history.

Under Obama/Biden, the US recovered from what was at the time the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Obama signed his recovery act about a month into his first term. Within a month the Dow had grown 13% and we began the longest bull market in US history. Unemployment dropped from 10% to just over 4%. And Biden was the one Obama tasked with overseeing that plan.To put this in perspective, we created more jobs in the last three years of the Obama administration than in the first three years of the Trump administration. By the time Trump signed his tax bill—his first legislative accomplishment, the Dow had grown by 268%. In the two years following his signing the bill, the Dow only grew 13% and unemployment had dropped by less than a half percent. So it took two years under Trump policies to accomplish what Obama/Biden policies accomplished in a month.
