What is your salary? Are you happy with it?

Going anonymous as I don't want people around me to know things about my past.My first salary was 150 per week when I was 15 yrs old. I joined as a delivery boy in a local restaurant near my home. The work was easy and I had a cycle which I used to deliver within 2–3 km from the shop. I enjoyed it particularly after closing the shop at around 10 pm we who were working there would eat dishes which were left unsold that day.But one day while I was delivering, I was caught by a traffic police who found out that I was a child labour. Hotel owner was fined and I was sent back. Next two months I was playing cricket during evening and roaming in my neighborhood. Then I joined another hotel again but this time my work was inside the shop. Cleaning utensils and shop floor after shop closing .I got 1000 per month. This is a huge salary in Coimbatore for a part time job that too for a small boy.I was good at studies as well and scored 1148/1200 in 12th exams. To be honest I concentrated on studies and left all part time jobs during that year. Because I got very low in my 10th due to which I was denied computer group and had to take bio maths group. And then now it is time to join college. I got 200/200 in physics. I thought of joining BE but financially it was a difficult task for me. Finally I decided to join BSC computer science. I tried in one charitable trust who were helping students with scholarship.I got that scholarship and also they suggested to go with BE and gave 25000 per year as scholarship. This was a sweet surprise for me. Managed to complete the course without backlog but unfortunately was not placed as I was from Tamil medium. Then joined a local Xerox shop and worked for few months for 3000 per month .Then in a cotton Mill in Tirupur for few months for 5000 per month but left that job quickly as it was too difficult. Then as a salesman in pothys garments for close to 1 year. Salary 15000 per month with some allowances. My friend referred me to his start up at Hyderabad. The work was to go to various hospitals in the city and get report of various data like medicines commonly prescribed, number of patients etc. Salary was 12500. Less than my previous but the work would end by noon itself as one hospital per day.Evenings my friend thought me about programming and other things to get into technical jobs as that would fetch me high salaries. This job went for another 2 yrs. Meanwhile I was trying jobs outside.First few companies really disappointed me and in one company the person taking interview laughed at me on seeing my resume. I got a fresher's job in a company for 3 lpa. This was the first time in my life where they mentioned salary per year. It was in Bangalore and it was a technical job.First six months training where I was the eldest person. Everyone in training were just out of college and I was 28 at that time. I still wonder why they recruited me.I was there for 3 years and then moved to another job for 9 lpa. After joining here I got married. I also asked my mother to come to Bangalore with me. My father met with an accident and died when I was a child. Then his brother cheated my mother and got all properties to their name leaving us with nothing. Anyway that is a different story.I am 37 while writing this and salary is 23 lpa. I am happy with this salary and it is quite high for a family of 4(me,wife,mother and my son just 2 yrs old so no school fees).I remain grateful to all those who helped me when I was nothing. The trust who gave scholarship, my friend who shared his room in Hyderabad without asking for rent , another friend who referred me to his company, all my friends in Chennai who helped with interviews in many companies but none of which I could clear. Without them I am nothing.Sorry for making the answer irrelevant to the question and long too but this is my first answer and sorry for my poor English.

What things hurt you in India?

This is a tough question, and my answer is probably going to displease many people, but there is no way I can sugarcoat it.Since September I have been working in a school in Hyderabad. It’s a relatively affordable private school, where most of students come from middle or low-middle class families. Conditions of the school are not great, and classrooms are overcrowded but that’s not what I want to talk about now.Every day I come to work and see teachers abusing children. Corporal punishment is so common that most of the children do not even start crying from getting a slap. I guess most of the children get slapped every day at least once. Verbal abuse is even worse. In my first months of teaching when I did not know how to maintain order in the class (without beating the kids, yes) I would sometime call an Indian teacher to help me. The teacher would walk in and scream: “Shut up, you idiots! “ Very often I see teachers randomly slapping or insulting the children when they had not even done anything wrong. I see teachers screaming at 3–4 year old children at nursery classes because they make noise while playing. What on Earth they want them to behave like in that age?!?Another thing that shocks me is the studying schedule. Students may have up to 10 periods per day, six days per week, and all what they get is 2–3 short breaks between them. Only thing that they manage to do in those breaks is to grab something to eat. If they fail to finish eating on time, they get scolded badly.I go to school and I see children who are tired, who are not allowed to play and not given time to do that. I see children who are humiliated every day and who live in constant stress between those never-ending exams. When I ask them why we should study, they tell me, “to score well and get a good job in the future”. Nobody has taught them how to love knowledge, and I feel that only thing that holds them in the classroom is fear.Since I started to work in a school, many of my Indian friends have shared their school memories with me. Very few of them are happy ones. Almost everyone can recall an abusive violent teacher whom everybody hated. Almost everyone remembers being repeatedly punished for one or another thing. It hurts me to see children growing up without childhood in India.

,I. Really wanted to make this work for me but I’m afraid it was beyond me. However the trial period which I thought I had cancelled hadn’t gone through then resulted in me receiving a large bill. I panicked thinking they would insist it was to be paid. So I got In touch with them and explained my error. They immediately wrote back and without question refunded my money. It says a lot for a company who responds in this way. I am eternally grateful to them
