What does box 11 “nonqualified plans” on your W-2 form mean?

Box 11 on the W2 indicates that part of your wages contributed to your retirement plan were contributed to a “non qualified plan” and are subject to taxation. From the W2 instructions[1][1][1][1]:Box 11. This amount is (a) reported in box 1 if it is a distribution made to you from a nonqualified deferred compensation or nongovernmental section 457(b) plan, or (b) included in box 3 and/or box 5 if it is a prior year deferral under a nonqualified or section 457(b) plan that became taxable for social security and Medicare taxes this year because there is no longer a substantial risk of forfeiture of your right to the deferred amount. This box shouldn’t be used if you had a deferral and a distribution in the same calendar year. If you made a deferral and received a distribution in the same calendar year, and you are or will be age 62 by the end of the calendar year, your employer should file Form SSA-131, Employer Report of Special Wage Payments, with the Social Security Administration and give you a copy. And the relevant IRC[2][2][2][2]:457(f)(1)(A): the compensation shall be included in the gross income of the participant or beneficiary for the 1st taxable year in which there is no substantial risk of forfeiture of the rights to such compensationThere are some exceptions to this. But, if you have received a W2 with an amount in Box 11, you may be seeing amounts you contributed to a retirement plan included in your Box 1, Box 3, and Box 5 compensation that you may or may not have expected to be tax exempt depending on how much you knew about the retirement plan you selected. If you are unclear on this, you should discuss it with your plan administrator.Footnotes[1] https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw2.pdf[1] https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw2.pdf[1] https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw2.pdf[1] https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw2.pdf[2] 26 U.S. Code § 457 - Deferred compensation plans of State and local governments and tax-exempt organizations[2] 26 U.S. Code § 457 - Deferred compensation plans of State and local governments and tax-exempt organizations[2] 26 U.S. Code § 457 - Deferred compensation plans of State and local governments and tax-exempt organizations[2] 26 U.S. Code § 457 - Deferred compensation plans of State and local governments and tax-exempt organizations

Has any MTech (or graduate) student received multiple job offers and internship offers at IISc Bangalore and IIT Bombay?

The story of Pradeep Bansal, ME Machine Learning & Data Science, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2015)The words from his mouth———-I have a long and very exciting story with lot of twists happening in the end.It was in 2010 when i was pursuing my final year of B.Tech. in Computer Engineering at NIT-Kurukshetra when I appeared “first time” for GATE(2010). I knew nothing about its preparation and hence approached M.Tech seniors to help me out. From their advice , I gave GATE and got an AIR 856 which was enough to get into many NITs. I had also joined a test series from GATEFORUM for which I used to travel to and fro from Kurukshetra to Delhi every alternative weekend. Such was the level of seriousness to clear GATE. I got an interview call from IISc and IIT Bombay for research programmes. I did go but couldn’t clear both. But those visits gave me motivation to work in Bangalore. After completing my B.Tech I joined Samsung Bangalore(SISO then, SRI now).I figured out the mistake in last preparation which was preparing few subjects but not all. But this time I was in job and was getting my own money for the very first time in life which brought many distractions. I was not serious in preparing but always had this thought of appearing in GATE’2011. I prepared mostly in the last week before the D-Day and managed to get higher score than last time but rank also higher :D . It was due to an high scoring exam. My rank was around 1210(compared to 856 previous attempt) which fetched me interview calls from IISc’s SERC department. So this time I had the experience of giving interview(from last year) which helped me clearing it and getting the offer letter from SERC’s MSc programme(a research based). But I “declined” this offer and thought of appearing one last time to get into CSA as SERC had many system related courses/research projects. Now it was the time to get serious in life like students preparing for JEE. Analysed what were the shortcomings in my approach and discovered it was lack of question practice. It lead me joining Test series programme from GATEFORUM and Ace Academy(online version). I also got a booklet with questions from all subjects. This time I gave all mock tests seriously. I used to take out time in office and take online test on individual topics.Lot of time management was required as the preparation was done along with a job.The day arrives! This was the third attempt and most likely the last one.It was like celebrating Valentine day with GATE exam as it happens on second Sunday of February!!.After giving the exam, I didn’t feel good and thought of giving interviews in companies to leave Samsung.Serious preparation of GATE helped me in getting an offer letter from InMobi with lucrative pay package. And then came the judgement day when i would be getting the GATE result.I saw the result page and saw the number 834 and thought again!!.But thank god it was GATE score and not rank :D …I got AIR of 131.Now the TWIST(s) start! :PSo I had an AIR of 131 and an offer from InMobi. First thing i did was to reject InMobi offer assuming that I will get admit in almost all IIT’s and IISc(Research programme).Next I resigned at Samsung coz they had 2 months notice period.First I went to IIT Kanpur for written and interview. But I did not clear the written exam.I got interview call from IIT-D but did not go as I had fixed my mind on IIT-B,IISc or IIT-K. I did not apply to other colleges coz of high rank.Did not get direct admission in IIT-B or IISc but got a call for CSA- Research interview from IISc bangalore which was expected. This time i was more confident but nervous too. I went for Machine Learning(Intelligent Systems) option and was asked questions from Probability and Linear Algebra. After an hour of tensed interview, I got the feeling that I would be rejected and it was also obvious after a week that I was NOT selected. So Now I had to take back the resignation back at Samsung for obvious reasons. It was one of the most silliest decision making which was done. I could have joined InMobi at the very least if not some other IIT.Get ready for another twist for the next year. In mid october I also gave PhD interview for NUS on Skype but was not selected due to low CGPA in B.Tech.2013!GATE’2012 score was valid for 2 years. This time I decided to apply in all IIT’s and IISc. This time GATE’13 exam was tougher and scores went low so my rank effectively became 60 from 131. And I got the offer from all the IIT’s including Bombay.I had applied for 3 departments/branches in IISc. (CSA,SSA and SERC in this given order). I was confused between IISc and IIT bombay and made up my mind if i get offer from CSA,IISc then I would join IISc else IIT-B. I got the offer from IISc for SSA branch (joined branch by EE and CSA , IISc) which I didn’t accept waiting for another offer from CSA. My mind fluctuated and started developing desires for IIT-B and forgot about IISc.One month passed and no update from IISc. 13th May was the last date to accept the offer(SSA) but it was 28th May when I was travelling from Chandigarh to Bangalore. I met few students from CSA in the flight beside my seat!. I talked a lot to those students about IISc and IISc vs IIT-B. After a long journey of thoughts and pondering, I decided as soon as i get the CSA offer I would accept!I got to know that someone with an AIR of 56 got into CSA. By this time last date of paying the registration fees for SSA had passed. And I really wanted to get into IISc somehow (any branch now :P) .I called the Admissions cell at IISc, and they told me to “read the full offer letter” which I got for SSA.There were 3 pages in that offer letter and I had read only first page!!!The next page said I will be considered for higher choices (CSA in my case) only if you pay for the SSA offer.Whole earth was shaking when I read this!!!NOW WHAT!First thing I did was to pay the fees for SSA immediately and I was working in Bangalore only so decided to go to IISc next day in the morning. On my way to IISc , I was just praying GOD that I get this.Registrar said why did I pay the fees now when the payment link and date were over!.I wanted to show him the seriousness to get into IISc by risking 22k.I requested him a lot and also told the story of not reading the full offer letter. He checked with the departments and told i can get into SSA but not CSA. I said yes and was asked to write an application explaining about the late registration fees.FINALLYY I was in IISc.And this decision turned out to be so big that I went on to become my branch topper.Would be getting gold medal in academics tomorrow(25th June,2016)I also formed many dance teams at IISc and took many dance classes.I got a gold medal in TT in Beginner’s level.

What is your struggle story in the SSC CGL?

Here is my story.I started my preparation during college days (Second Year). I wasn’t preparing much seriously about CGL. I was doing Hons. Maths from DU. So daily up down from Haryana was quite tiring also plus after this I used to go to Mukherjee Ngr for coaching from my cllg. Anyways I continued my preparation, somedays I used to study for 8 hrs while on other days it was just 2–3 hrs a day. As I had enough time so I was quite relaxed. I appeared in CGL 2017 ( though I was not eligible for it as I wasn’t Graduate that time), to see KI DEKHTE HAI PRELIMS MEIN CUTOFF SE KITNE MARKS PICHE RHTE HAI…haha wasn’t confident that time. So I gave my prelims, But to my surprise, I cleared the Pre exam, scored 135( Cutoff was around 131). That was the day when I started to have confidence ( ki phla hi exam dia atleast u cleared, Acche se tyari krnge ab aage or). Appeard for cgl 2017 mains. Cleared it ( 427/600). Appeared for T3 paper after that I didn’t go for DV, as I knew that i wasn’t eligible. Just gave this exam for experience. In 2018, I was graduate plus there was no CGL exam in 2018, so I prepared simultaneously for banking exams. I failed ibps po mains by 4 marks. This was first failure for me. After that I gave IBPS CLERK exam and cleared it and got my first job in 2019. Pheli job ki bat hi kuch or hti hai, I felt it that that time. I was 21 when I got my first job in this Ibps clerk.I Prepared well for CGL 2018 and gave Prelims, Mains( during job) and Descriptive.During my bank job-I cleared FCI prelims but didnt appear for mains.Cleared EPFO SSA but failed in mains.Failed in RBI Assistant by 2 marks( was shocked to see the cutoff 96 out of 100).I had given exam of Dept. of Atomic Energy for UDC which had 34 all India vacancies, I cleared it and left job of banking. From Dec 2020 I joined this atomic energy dept.I have got 584/700 in CGL 2018 . I hope I will get some good post. Waiting for 31st march for final result. This is all.EDIT:— Results are OUT!!! I got selected as INSPECTOR OF CUSTOMS (PREVENTIVE OFFICER) 😍😍 in CENTRAL BOARD OF INDIRECT TAXES AND CUSTOMS.
