Green Card: When a foreigner gets married to an American in the U.S., what's the timeline of rights/privileges?

This is the timeline of my particular case:Background: I am from India and had been in the US on an H1B visa since 2006. The company that I was working for had already filed an application for my Green Card (EB2) in 2011. My I-140 was approved and so my H1B was extended for a period of 3 years. I am based out of Los Angeles, CA and my wife was from Lincoln, NE before she moved to Los Angeles upon meeting me.Green Card timeline:I got married to my US-citizen wife in Feb 2013.We filed for my Green Card on 29-Mar-2013.USCIS received my application on 3-Apr-2013USCIS cashed my checks on 10-Apr-2013.I received my biometrics appointment notice on 18-Apr-2013 and the biometrics appointment was set for 3-May-2013.We were initially asked to appear for Adjustment of Status (AOS) interview somewhere around end of May/beginning of June 2013. However, this got postponed by the USCIS and we were then asked to come in on 24-Jun-2013.In the meanwhile, I received my Advanced Parole cum Employment Authorization Document around this time.Went in with my wife to the Los Angeles USCIS office on 24-Jun-2013. My wife seemed to be more nervous than I was but our case was pretty straight-forward and the officer confirmed that we were OK. Since I was to travel out of the country at the end of June, we asked the interviewing officer to provide me with a I-551 stamp on my passport which he did.My Green Card arrived mid-July while I was actually out of the US, traveling to India. This fact actually caused me quite a bit of grief when I was traveling back, especially in London and back in Los Angeles but all was well in the end.Technically speaking, the EAD will allow your spouse to start working in a job of his/her choice (with certain restrictions) while the AP allows him/her to travel in and out of the US. However, the Green Card approval is usually the step that confers all the rights and privileges. In my case, this was a little over 3 months upon me filing for the Green Card. However, your case may be more convoluted due to your spouse being out of status for a bit. Definitely do consult an attorney to make sure that all loose ends are tied up.

Is there even a remote possibility for the green card wait time to be reduced for EB2 Indian nationals filing in 2018?

These number are based on real facts. If you have an I140 approved application in 2018, then there are 216k EB2 india approved applications before you as of April ,20 2018 in employment based category. This includes only primary applicants. Including the dependents with a factor of 1.5 , then it comes to 540k applicants. Each year US provides 2800 green cards under EB2 for each country due to 7% CAP, that includes dependents. So without spillover from other countries unused green card, the EB2 india category can get max of 2800 GC per year. So 540k/2800 comes to 192 years of wait time.So a person applied for green card from India now and another person applied from a different country ,say Greenland at same time. The immigrant from green land will get green card in a year, but it will take 192 years to get Green card for people from India because green cards are served based on country cap instead of first come first serve basis. So people who applied from India with priority date after 2013 will never see the GC in their life if there is no spill over or any immigration reform in place.Even dates with 2012 and 2013 will take 20 to 25 years to get their GC. Congress needs to fix this injustice. My interpretation is based on USCIS data below.https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/nativedocuments/Count_of_Approved_I-140_I-360_and_I-526_Petitions_as_of_April_20_2018_with_a_Priority_Date_On_or_After_May_2018.PDF

Why is it that so many Indians in the U.S. work at 7-Eleven?

It is not coincidence my dear, it is just your Confirmation bias. And of course, when your dataset includes just your own selection process and "The Simpsons", what else can one hope for? Oh, and by the way, it is spelled as The Simpsons. No apostrophe s.Now, just some facts, for you.First,Indian citizens are the top recipients of temporary high-skilled worker H-1B visas, accounting for 70 percent of the 316,000 H-1B petitions (initial and continuing employment) approved by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in fiscal year (FY) 2014. India is also the second-largest sending country of international students to the United States after China: Close to 103,000 Indian-born students were enrolled in U.S. educational institutions in the 2013-14 school year.Source: http://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/indian-immigrants-united-statesNow you might ask what is a H1B visa? The US H1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialized fields such as in architecture, engineering, mathematics, science, and medicine. So, it plain English, it pretty much means, the USA needs Indians, to fill in jobs as skilled and expert workers.Second, you will be surprised, there are Indians working in very top positions in companies like Microsoft, Slideshare, Google, Adobe, Lumoid, and such others. Don't believe me? Let me Google that for you. These Are The Most Influential Indians In US Tech - Business InsiderThird,Median annual household income for Indian Americans in 2010 was $88,000, much higher than for all Asian Americans ($66,000) and all U.S. households ($49,800) — perhaps not surprising, given their high education levels. Only 9% of adult Indian Americans live in poverty, compared with 12% of Asian Americans overall and 13% of the U.S. population. In 2010, by our analysis, 28% of Indian American worked in science and engineering fields; according to the 2013 American Community Survey, more than two-thirds (69.3%) of Indian Americans 16 and older were in management, business, science and arts occupations.Source: 5 facts about Indian AmericansFYI, working in 7-11 do not entail working in business, science and arts or management occupations. So, your contention do not hold true.
