If you’re looking for professional quality face and body paint, ie the same products used by pro face painters, pro makeup artists, theatre groups etc, then you can easily find what you need from an online specialist retailer.Specialist retailers build their reputations based on offering only the best quality, skin-safe supplies from reliable brands - and they can also help you with expert advice, unlike the larger department stores etc.I’d advise to steer clear of discount stores, supermarkets, and craft stores: rarely will they carry quality products - in fact, the products they do supply are usually no-name brands and it’s likely that they will be sub-par quality and thus you won’t get the results you are looking for. But if you read my customer reviews you’ll see I am well-qualified to offer advice in this area :)OK it’s a common question: “What paint is suitable for face paint and where can I get it?”, and as I’ve already answered where to find it, now I’ll explain what it is.Face and body paint is made for the purpose; the ingredients are skin-safe and when activated with a small amount of water, the paint is easily to apply with a brush or sponge.The colour is vibrant, and obtained from a pigment; this is combined in either a wax or glycerine base, or sometimes both. Most face paints are vegan, however some may contain lanolin, so if your best to read the label if you’re concerned.Popular brands include TAG Body Art, Global Colours, Cameleon, Kryvaline, Superstar, Mehron Paradise, and Party Xplosion. These brands have been certified to meet FDA and EU standards. Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) are available on request from all reputable suppliers. These brands all produce excellent results. They should feel comfortable to wear too. Unlike craft paints… which I will discuss next.First time face painters sometimes choose to use craft paint, poster paint, or acrylic paint (basically the same thing). Usually because they don’t know any better. They read the label which says “non-toxic” and assume it’s OK to use on skin. Sure it probably won’t do any long-lasting harm, but it won’t do you any favors either. Craft paint cracks, peels and itches. It’s just not a good substitute for face paint so don’t compromise.And finally… you may also come across a product that is liquid face and body paint. Unless you plan to use an airbrush, then don’t bother. While it is skin-safe, liquid face and body paint won’t give you a nice result. It won’t blend with the other colours (an effect which is nice to achieve for many designs).
