Without generalizing, I can give you one specific case which you can do with as you will.As a girl, my wife needed a telescope to see the bottom of the middle class. In her early teens she determined that her life's goal was to never be poor, and decided that the key to that was education. Specifically, education in a field which would always be in demand.She brought steel to the practice of study. She made lists and schedules. She broke every course down to its digestible components and stalked each one, every day, until it was taken and consumed. She never allowed a day's study to go unachieved, but broke it down and crushed it under the day's discipline. It is how a person of average means scales mountains.She took top marks in high school and gave the valedictorian's address. There was no money for college so she explored every scholarship avenue, accumulating enough cash to make her way into the first residence year of what would come to be a summa cum laude double major in engineering and math. Though at a major university, she rarely took part in outside activity -- partly for lack of money, and never if it interfered with study schedule. There would be time for that, later. Her graduating scores differed from the very top by less than a pixel's width.She was recruited into high tech and in her first years wrote compiler code and the code that makes SCSI work. Later she wrote microcode for highly advanced RAID, earning several patents.That was decades ago. That study thing - that's still with her. It's relaxed and informal, but every day she chops up something that wants to be absorbed. She studies Oriental languages a noun at a time. In the 90's she understood that her engineering disciplines paid short shrift to a good classical arts education. She wrote a literature database which she could populate with every kind of book and ranked them by awards and recommendations. It now has tens of thousands of entries. Her nightly reading list consists of one of eight long classic works per year, a popular novel, a short classic work, a religious treatise (currently the sermons of Martin Luthor) and, for dessert, a romance. Thirty pages each. She is determined to get through every era's defining works before she dies, from Gilgamesh to Reacher. I'm a voracious reader but she long ago left me in the dust. Her database puts up lists, and she knocks them down.Fifteen years ago she worked through classical music and opera, a far cry from the 60's and 70's top ten she grew up with.A decade ago she decided she had forgotten most of the higher math she learned. So for most of a year she walked through the entire coursework in sequence from algebra to esoterica, working the problems and proving the facts. Now she complains she has forgotten it again.In sum, you determine what is important in life, set goals accordingly, and give them a priority that ensures they are met. That last phrase means that you set your work level high and permit no interference. You leave no task undone. You develop the needed level of focus, tools and habits. And, not surprisingly, those things form the core of your intellectual achievement throughout life.

Schooling is more than just learning stuff from books and passing exams. Learning is also about life, behaviour, morals, society and generally how to live in the wider world.Dress codes are there to teach discipline, codes of behaviour and appropriate dress codes in society which will result in self-respect and acceptable looks. Without that framework, we may as well turn up to work in pyjamas, wear “tasteless” and inappropriate clothing all the time. It will also lead to health and mental issues as a “couldn't care” attitude develops.So yes, I do agree that the same levels of standard should be maintained even in a virtual learning situation. Admittedly I do start work in my home office in my pyjamas at times but I always get dressed and “smarten” up when any urgent tasks are dealt with.
