What is your review of The Ohio State University?

★★I attended OSU as a graduate student in the Nuclear Engineering program in 2003-2005.I look back on my Columbus experience with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I have a lot of positive things to say about my particular program, its faculty, its curriculum, and its facilities. On the other hand, the wider university culture, centered as it is upon tribal devotion to football, is tiresome, banal, and offensive; moreover, undergraduate and intro graduate pedagogy remains mired in ineffective tradition.Regarding campus culture, I suppose the old adage applies about matters of taste being indisputable: if your tastes gravitate toward "Greek" life, alcohol-fueled bacchanales, and ritualistically watching a bunch of meatheads chase one another down over a prolate spheroid of pigskin, by all means you should have Ohio State on your short list. If, however, you are looking for a lasting and deeply meaningful educational experience, you will probably run into significant frustration in this environment. That is not to say I think it impossible to have a meaningful undergraduate career at OSU; the school does offer considerable value especially for in-state applicants and, to a large extent, educational opportunity is what the individual makes of it. But you'll be in giant lectures and labs, with minimal faculty interaction. You'll listen to graduate TAs (and sometimes faculty) give incomprehensible lectures. (I had an intro-grad course in the math department where the professor simply read aloud, in heavily-accented English, his own textbook during lecture.) You will complete exams on bubble sheets with No. 2 pencils. You will "cram" for exams and then quickly forget most of the covered material as you move on. 19th-Century pedagogy right out of Dickens' Hard Times prevails here. To be fair, the same is probably true at other large state schools. My advice for undergrads interested in a richer, deeper educational experience and a more meaningful social life is to consider some of the liberal-arts colleges instead of OSU. Prospective graduate students should understand that campus life at OSU revolves around football, and should be willing to deal with the periodic inconveniences of this phenomenon (e.g. getting one's car towed from OSU parking lots on the weekends so that rich airheaded alums can park their RVs in there for game day).Best wishes to all current and prospective students at Ohio State, and if you have any specific questions about the place or my experiences there, I am happy to engage.

What is the best non-Ivy league school for undergrad econ majors?

The school that tends to be ranked at the top is the U of Chicago. They have a long history of producing big names and have had a significant number of Nobel winners come from the faculty. They have long been advocates of rational choice theory, however, and over the last generation this methodology been challenged on many fronts. The schools listed below are all quite good. Some of the State universities are not nearly as difficult to get in as Ivies and Chicago. Their departments are large and have a range of approaches to the study of economics.********************************************************************Ohio State University Undergraduate honors program in economics Columbus, OHPurdue University Joint program in management and economics West Lafayette, INUniversity of California - Berkeley Current and previous faculty members have won Nobel prizes Berkeley, CAUniversity of Chicago Extensive series of economics-based workshops Chicago, ILUniversity of Minnesota - Twin Cities Economics Student Organization (ESO) Minneapolis, MNUniversity of Texas at Austin Offers Master of Public Accounting (MPA) program Austin, TXUniversity of Wisconsin - Madison Four distinguished scholarships offered to undergraduate economics students Madison, WIBest Undergraduate Economics Programs in the Nation

Which among the following universities give rolling admits for MS in CS?

A search for programs that have rolling deadlines can be misleading. I have posted on of the lists below but it is inaccurate when it coms to listing schools that DON’T offer rolling admission. The ones that are rolling on the list are right. Two examples.Boston U has rolling for MS CS: Admissions Deadlines- The Department of Computer Science has rolling admissions and accepts applications throughout the year. International students requiring a visa are encouraged to submit all necessary documents at least six weeks prior to the semester start date.Colombia: What are the application deadlines?Fall priority deadline is February 15, 2014; however, we will continue accepting applications on a rolling basis. If you have any questions, please email. What this means is that you will need to go to the school websites and check to see if they have rolling admission as the data out there is misleadingListed Below are the Universities Application Deadlines for MS in Computer Science. The List Contains Application Deadlines for Spring and Fall Semester. This Information has been collected from the All the Universities Site. If you find any error in this list please feel free to comment the error in comment box.If the deadline for Spring is not provided then it means that the Universities don’t have spring intake. No Deadline: - You will see some Universities will have a No Deadline written in Spring/Fall Application Deadline. It means that these Universities accept Applications throughout the year and they normally process Applications in Rolling, which means they process your application as soon as they receive it.Sr No.UniversitySpringFall1Arizona State UniversityAug-01Dec-012Auburn UniversitySep-15Feb-153Boston UniversitySep-25Jan-254Brandeis UniversityNov-01No Deadline5Brigham Young UniversityAug-10Jan-116Brown UniversityDec-15Jul-157Carnegie Mellon UniversityDec, Feb, May -018Clemson UniversitySep-15Apr-159College Of William And MaryOct-01Mar-0110Colorado State UniversitySep-01Apr-0111Columbia UniversityOct-01Feb-1512Cornell UniversityOct-01Feb-0113Dartmouth CollegeJan-0814Duke UniversityOct-15Jan-3115Florida Institute Of TechnologyApr-0116Florida State UniversityNov-01Jul-0117George Washington UniversitySep-01May-0118Georgia State UniversityOct-15Apr-1519Harvard UniversityDec-1520Illionis Institute of TechnologyNov-15Jan-0421Indiana University, BloomingtonOct-01Mar-1522Iowa State UniversitySep-01Jan-0123John Hopkins UniversitySep-10Jan-3124Kansas State UniversityAug-01Jan-0125Kent State UniversityNo DeadlineNo Deadline26Lehigh UniversityDec-01Jul-1527Michigan State UniversitySep-15Jan-1528Michigan Technology UniversityOct-01Jul-0129New Jersey Institute Of technologyNov-15May-0130New Mexico State UniversityAug-01May-0131New York UniversityOct-01Mar-0132North Carolina State UniversityDec-1533North Dakota State UniversityAug-01Apr-0134Northeastern UniversityMay-1535Northwestern UniversityJan-18May-1536NYU PolytechnicNov-01Mar-1537Ohio State UniversityNov-30Jan-1538Oklahoma State UniversityAug-01Mar-0139Old Dominion UniversityOct-01Apr-1540Oregon State UniversityJan-1541Penn State UniversityAug-31Dec-1542Princeton UniversityDec-1543Purdue University, West LafayetteOct-01Dec-1544Rensselaer PolytechnicAug-15Jan-0145Rice UniversityNov-01Feb-0146Rutgers University, New BrunswickMar-0147San Jose State UniversitySep-30Apr-0148Southern Methodist UniversitySep-01May-0149State University Of New York, AlbanyNov-01Mar-0150State University Of New York, BinghamtonOct-15Feb-1551State University Of New York, Stony BrookNo DeadlineNo Deadline52Stevens Institute Of TechnologyNo DeadlineNo Deadline53Sunny Buffalo, New YorkAug-31Dec-3154Syracuse UniversityNov-15Jan-0155Temple UniversityDec-15Aug-0156Texas A&M UniversityAug-01Mar-0157Texas Tech UniversityJun-15Jan-1558Tufts UniversitySep-15Mar-0159University Of Alabama, BirminghamSep-01Feb-0160University Of ArizonaJan-1561University Of Arkansas, Main CampusNov-15Jul-0162University Of California, DavisNo DeadlineNo Deadline63University Of California, IrvineJun-07Dec-0764University of California, Los AngelesSep-01Dec-0165University Of California, RiversideOct-01Feb-0166University Of California, San DiegoDec-1567University of California, Santa BarbaraDec-1568University Of California, Santa CruzJan-0369University of Central FloridaJul-01Jan-1570University Of ChicagoFeb-0171University Of CincinattiNov-01Feb-0172University Of Colorado, BoulderDec-1573University of ConnecticutNov-01Feb-0174University of DaytonNov-01May-0175University Of DelawareOct-01Feb-0176University of FloridaAug-01Feb-0177University of GeorgiaOct-15Apr-1578University Of HoustonApr-0179University of Illionis, ChicagoDec-05Jul-1580University of KansasOct-01Jan-0181University Of KentuckyOct-31Jun-1582University Of Louisiana, LafayetteNov-01Mar-0183University of Maryland, Baltimore CountyNov-01Jan-0184University of Maryland, College ParkOct-01Dec-1585University Of Massachusetts, AmherstDec-1586University Of MemphisSep-15May-0187University Of Michigan, Ann ArborAug-15Dec-1588University Of MinnesotaFeb-0189University Of Nebraska, LincolnOct-01Mar-0190University of North Carolina, Chapel HillDec-0391University of North Carolina, CharlotteOct-01May-0192University Of North TexasSep-15Feb-1593University Of Northern IowaFeb-1594University of OklahomaSep-01Mar-0195University Of OregonOct-15Apr-1596University of PennsylvaniaNov-15Mar-1597University of PittsburghSep-15Jan-1598University Of RochesterDec-1599University Of South Carolina, ColumbiaJul-01100University of South FloridaJul-01Jan-02101University Of Southern CaliforniaSep-15Jan-15102University Of Southern MississippiNo DeadlineNo Deadline103University Of Tennessee, ChattanoogaJul-31104University of Texas, AustinDec-15105University of Texas, DallasNov-01Jul-01106University of UtahApr-15107University of VermontFeb-15108University Of VirginiaJan-01109University of Washington, SeattleDec-15Apr-15110University of Wisconsin, MilwaukeeSep-01Feb-01111University of Wisconsin-MadisonDec-15112Vanderbilt UniversityNov-01Dec-01113Washington State UniversityNo DeadlineNo Deadline114Washington University, St.LouisNov-01May-01115Wayne State UniversityOct-01May-01116Western Michigan UniversityNov-01Jun-15117Wright State UniversitySep-07May-25118Yale UniversityJan-02
