You can still find word processors spreadsheets, database programs around but not in their original suits. As Microsoft gained ground, it was viewed by most people in business and schools that everyone had a windows computer, not thinking they may have a Mac or something else. And since these people used Microsoft office, they required others to use the same thing. It was even porter over to Mac, but some time ago open office came about, it was able to have the same exact software as Microsoft office and is compatible with ms office, you could even get the same fonts, save and read documents as ms office documents, then libre office came into play, so now I can have a Linux machine and even though I’m told I have to have ms office because the school or job says so, I can take their documents and pull them up in libre office, work on them make changes and take it back and if I did not tell them so, they would have no clue I was not using ms office. So there you have it, it’s only important because these organizations make it important in their own minds, it no longer exists in reality.
