I use InDesign and FrameMaker to layout user manuals, installation guides, small cards and flyers at work. We publish both online and in print. I prefer InDesign to FrameMaker as it's a wysiwyg program and I'm a very visual person. I author in FrameMaker and InDesign when I'm working on these documents because I'm usually leveraging existing content heavily. I get my documents edited by generating a PDF and submitting it to my editor, who uses Adobe Acrobat Pro's comment tools.Illustrator is not a program that should be used for document design. Not directly. Not like in Word, where it’s easy to convert a pdf (especially if it was originally a Word document) to Word.PowerPoint is a bit different. I wouldn’t recommend trying to convert a pdf directly into PowerPoint. You won’t have much joy. Even if you get an editable result, you’ll be missing all the “Insert new Slide” master layouts, which is not a great help. I’m sure that there are tools that do this, but as AFAIK, none of them build a proper master layout set. They just create a PowerPoint file that contains slides that look like the pdf. But if you try to add a new slide… good luck with that.We do a lot of this kind of work, manually building a proper PowerPoint with master layouts and content slides. We usually get InDesign files and/or pdfs created from InDesign by design agencies. So we use these as guides and build a proper, fully-functional PowerPoint template, including correctly embedded color theme, font theme, and masters set up in such a way that a user could delete all content (i.e. example) slides and easily re-build it just by inserting new slides based upon the master layouts. So it’s easy to work with and fully PowerPoint functional.It’s quite a bit of work, but the end result is definitely worth it.
