Alright.This has been said ad nauseam, but I'm going to say it again, because I'm not sure I've said it out loud.Quora needs to work on search, and Quora needs to work on filtering.It is absolutely maddening to want to reference an answer you wrote a year ago and don't remember the exact wording of the question.If you do remember specifically, you can usually search your own name and a close approximation of the question, and possibly find it..But come on. Filtering is not that hard. Filter by subject, date range, at least month/year.Truth be told though, even a moderately effective content search engine would improve user experience by a massive amount.

It is exactly the opposite. C++ keeps adding more high level features, and those new features are incrementing the performance and simultaneously making the language easier to use.The final goal of all those new features is exactly that, make the language easier to code, but at the same time increase the performance.As a matter of fact, C++ has the zero-overhead principle: “what you don’t use, you don’t pay for”, that is, with every new feature added to the language, you get at least as good performance as if that feature will not be included. Also there are the principle: “What you do use cost either only as much as what you’d implement yourself, or it cost less”, meaning that a new feature can either mantain or improve the performance.The C++ committee do not allows to include a single feature that hurts the performance. As far as I can tell, the committee also stops including features that make the language more difficult to teach, learn, use or maintain. Also it is a must to keep the compatibility with previous versions.All these demands make it so difficult to get a new feature be accepted by the committee to be included in the C++ standard. For instance, Bjarme Stroustrup himself took many years to develop concepts so that they can be included in the standard. Concepts will be included in 2020 and was initially proposed around 2003.This is the “magic” of C++, it is a language that is highly evolving to be a better language. But recently, Zhihu has added several new features which distinguish it from Quora.Popular Zhihu answerers can open their own “column” and write essays, without having to answer any specific questionZhihu readers can voluntarily “tip” the authors of essays they like. This function utilizes the WeChat wallet and instantly transfers money into the author’s account. Most people tip 2 RMB (about 30 cents), but some tip more. This is entirely voluntary, yet people utilize it. It’s a way to reward authors for good content, and to incentive writers to contribute better quality content.Zhihu has a new feature called 值乎, which when romanized also reads as “Zhihu”, but is actuallys a different characters. In this feature, Zhihuers respond to questions with a 1–2 minute sound recording answering the question, and people can purchase the recordings for a price set by the recorder.Zhihu Live is the biggest new feature on Zhihu. Top Zhihuers are invited to prepare TED talk style lectures, with about 30 minutes of content and 30 minutes for Q&A. The lectures are live broadcast (sound only), and follow a set schedule. Listeners have to sign up ahead of time to participate. Cost for one lecture seems to range from 20 — 100 RMB (3 to 16 dollars).Finally, this isn’t a new feature or anything, but Zhihuers make use of the “upvote” and “downvote” buttons far more frequntly than Quora users. On Zhihu, a typical top rated answer might have 5000 or 10000 or 20000 upvotes. Even a less followed question can still get answers in the hundreds or thousands of upvotes. You just don’t see those kinds of volumes on Quora. Comment sections on Zhihu are also much more active. It’s common for a single answer to attract hundreds of comments.Another difference is in the political persuasion of the user base. When Zhihu started, its users were mostly liberals (within the Chinese context of course, but with several areas of overlap with international and Western liberals too). In this, it was similar to Quora. However, recently Zhihu has seen a large influx of conservative users, who have taken to heavy trolling and personal attacks on other users. They are highly motivated by a shared hostility towards Islam, and express worship of and support for Donald Trump.
