How hard is AP chemistry?

I agree with Joshua. I took AP Chemistry in 10th grade (with no prior knowledge whatsoever). All the sophomores decided to take it because it was the year they opened it to students who haven’t had any chemistry background. But it was very tough for all of us. The class average was a D all the time with the exception of like 3 people who always got As (one of the three had already taken Honors chemistry). Our teacher was very chill and that was probably why we didn’t learn much (we had a lot of parties instead of studying). But I really suggest you buy the 5 steps to a 5 prep book for AP chemistry before you even step foot in the classroom because it is so helpful and so concise. It’s also more accurate than the other AP Prep books. It’s generally the best bet for the AP Sciences (with the exception of AP Bio because the good prep book for that is Cliffnotes). Study the past FRQs on collegeboard’s website and practice them daily. It’ll pay off in the end. Do the practice problems in your textbook (I didn’t bother to do any of them in the first semester and didn’t do so well on the tests and second semester I did them and I realized they’re actually very helpful because they address all areas of concepts introduced in the chapters). Also, don’t worry about your grade much. I worried a lot about it first sem and I ended up getting a B thinking I would reach the goal of the A. But in second sem, I just tried to learn and I didn’t even try to worry about my grade and it actually helped me boost my B to an A. Lastly, your teacher for practice AP exams. The teachers have their pre-made practice AP exams on their collegeboards account. They will help you learn because when you review your practice test and compare your answers to the practice key, you can see and compare why you chose your answer and why collegeboard would choose their answer. This will reinforce the concepts in your head.Good luck!If you have any more questions you can message me!

How difficult would it be for me to take AP Calc BC, AP Physics 1, AP Chem, AP Lang, and Apush in my junior year? Can you give me advice, tips, and insight?

AP Lang - Your difficulty with this course will all depend on your prior experience with English. In other words, if you’re not a native English speaker, you’ll have extra difficulties. The only tip I can give you here is to start your assignments well before the due date, native or not. This gives you ample amount of time to spot careless mistakes and maximize your scores.AP Calc BC - The first semester of this course is basically a review of AP Calc AB, so you’ll get some “free time” at home for the first semester of your school year. Use this time wisely for course work from other classes, or you might want to spend it on getting a head start on the material you will cover second semester.Be sure to understand every concept you’ll need before you leave the class. AP Calc is one of those classes where without understanding, you won’t do too well. And instead of spending hours on Khan Academy, be sure to ask your teacher plenty of questions to cut down your additional study time.AP Physics 1 - My recommendation is that you take AP Physics C: Mechanics over this course if possible. They are both the same course with the exception that Physics C uses calculus to go deeper into the same topics you cover in AP Physics 1, and since you’re taking AP Calc BC this semester, I’m assuming you’ve already taken AB.Whether you take 1 or C, you will have to spend some time at home to solidify your foundation in this class regardless. And just like Calc BC, I recommend you ask your teacher tons of questions. If you don’t get a homework problem, ask your teacher. It’ll be mighty helpful.AP Chemistry - Unless you opt for Physics C, this will probably be the second hardest class you will take this year. The course mixes some basic algebra with science, making it a class where you have to both memorize some facts and have the ability to apply the appropriate math.Don’t fall behind. Do as many practice problems as possible in your free time, because the only way your test taking skills will grow in this class is by becoming familiar with the types of questions you’ll encounter.AP US History - By far the most tedious class you’ll have this school year. I had to drop this class before it was too late because of how much work we were expected to finish. Depending on the teacher, you’ll have to do many outlines and be expected to know key events in US history. My recommendation for this class is that you should start your outlines well before the school day is over. Perhaps do a little during nutrition, lunch, or whatever free time you get. If anything, homework from this class should be the first thing you finish. And make sure you don’t take too long here either, because then you’ll struggle with your other classes.I hope this helped, mate.

What can I do to be successful in AP Chemistry?

Holy guacamole, this question literally sounds like I wrote it. This is literally the dilemma I had been facing and to be frank, still am.But I like to imagine that I have found a solution, and perhaps I have ;)Let's start off with that giant, horrendous, monstrous textbook you have. Maybe it's an outdated Zumdahl like mine, or maybe something else. But it's imperative that you utilize it. If you don't understand anything, go refer to it, it's extremely likely it may teach you step by step how to solve your problem.Second let's go to these greatly underrated online resources. There's plenty available (my guess is that chemistry is universally a pain in the a**), go take a peek and learn a bit. Check these out: ChemWiki: The Dynamic Chemistry Hypertext , Mr. Kent's Chemistry Regents Help and AP Chemistry Exam Review Pages , there's a ton of other sites as well, and don't forget YouTube videos. I'm a personal fan of MissRoake (wish I had her for AP Chem). Now here's a big secret weapon of mine:Preparing for the AP* Chemistry Exam – Part 1Preparing for the AP* Chemistry Exam – Part 2Literally covers AP Chemistry, provides a ton of practice problems, and overall is an excellent program, and self-paced. Utilize it.So there's one more thing left and those are the prep books, which User-13484318331675562012 has talked about already, but I have Princeton Review, and a few friends have Barron's. Grab one, I've heard Barron's is excellent but slightly more complicated, while Princeton Review is too simple. Your call. Now you noted that homework is optional. Excellent, same thing here, except my grade is comprised of 60% tests, and 40% labs. Ace those god dang labs, they are the things your grade is hinging on. And if she does assign homework, just do it. Trust me, just do it.(Also I'm not too worried about my grade itself but the AP Exam, as she's promised that if you get a 5 BOOM, automatic A both semesters. :) But she's never had to change the grades before as only those with A's both semesters get 5s. Guess I'll be the first. (fingers crossed))BTW Good Luck!!!
