PDF Editor FAQ

Have you ever gotten a teacher fired?

Yeah I did, actually we did!So this is what happened when I was in 10th grade. Our maths teacher was quite reputed in our school as he was a senior teacher and quite so-called knowledgeable ( you know, holding many degrees and all ). But according to us, he did not teach well, not at all. He would be absent half of the days, spend most of his time outside the class, did not clear our doubts regarding the subject. So we, kinda, started disliking him. His behaviour was also partial towards some students. We never realised the actual reason until..But we realised his true colours as our half-yearly exams approached. Before the main exams, there are vivas and practical exams (as in most of the curriculum). That was the time when he explicitly declared that those who don’t want to ruin their 10th boards’ grades, they should better start take private coaching classes from him as others(who were doing so beforehand) and that only that way he is going to give decent enough marks in practical exams and viva and fail the rest. Now I was a kid who had never relied on private coaching classes or such things until then. I was like, growing kind of rebellious about his thoughts and actions. Moreover, not every student can afford the huge fees he charged. And anyway, how can he force us to do any such thing, how dare he?So, we, 10 G, instead of succumbing to his demands, united, and even those students of our class who were already taking coaching from him, they left it and came with us. We knew we were going to take a huge risk considering it was our 10th standard and seeing his influence over our school and fellow teachers. But we didn’t step back. It was like now or never. No batch had ever tried to break free his corrupt policies and no other teacher or official staff has ever tried to question him over it. If it continued to be like that, it would be a huge problem in future and may eventually, provoke other like-minded teachers to follow his actions for their own subjects as well.So we, each of the 60 students of our batch, went straight to Directors’ office, wrote an application to the Director about his corrupt demands and selfish nature, signed it and explained to her in detail what wrong was going on. We demanded to change our teacher right way. We told her everything. We were grateful she understood and did same. However, we , as a section, 10 G had become popular(sarcastic sense) in our school after this. Every teacher who came to our class, taunted us like you don’t want to study and just make such foolish demands such as to change the teacher and all. You won’t score good grades as he is not teaching you now blah blah blah. We were like, just you wait and watch. Things were rough for us the whole year. Every other teacher used to taunt us repeatedly telling us that no other class has ever tried to do such things and that you don’t respect your elders and all sorts of stuff. Now the final exams arrived and here was the result. We had the highest scores among all the sections of 10th and the highest number of students securing 10 CGPA. And that was when we regained our earlier respect in school.(Since toppers were from our section for almost 3–4 years). Something changed that time and we later came to know that he was demoted to teach standard 6th and 7th.So we did not exactly fire him but this sure have had a huge impact on his fake confidence and he must have had learnt a lesson..After reading this I don’t know how you all are going to judge me but I must say that I am proud to be a part of that.

India: What are things that make Indians sad?

Let me introduce you to the BIGGEST SCAM OF DELHI UNIVERSITY.Yes Scam in DU. In India education lacks too behind from other countries because education is more of business this days and also the people working in the institute has got no knowledge and plays with student’s career.Let’s talk about education system of Famous university of India DELHI UNIVERSITY where 54k to 60k undergraduate students are taking admission in various courses every year with the cut off from 85% to 99.9% .So on 24th June 2017 results of 6th Semester i.e Last semester of B.Com result was out. So this happened to one of my friend that he secured 78% marks in 6th Semester but still he was shocked to see it was written failed in Graduation. So he approached south campus to see if his result has some error. And he was told that in 5th Semester of Computer Practical subject he secured 10 marks out of 30 so he is failed and in 5th Semester his result showed him passed but in 6th Semester result they are showing him as failed because of less marks in computer practical and has to re-appear in exam. Which is not at all the rule of DU passing criteria. Rule is student need to secure overall 40% marks in each subject to pass the semester. My friends result picture is belowAs you can see in all subject he has secured more than 60 marks out of 75 in theory and also secured overall 78.75% in 6th Semester. Also in each semester he performed very well. Aren’t you shocked seeing a candidate securing 315 marks out of 400 and the candidate is failed. Funny education system.Okay lets continue with the story. He was not satisfied with the explanation he got from the South Campus as it was told to us that we have to secure 40% overall in each subject. And later he visited the college Principal where he said that the college management were also not aware of this rule. And he said that he can only help now by writing an application to Delhi University to pass the students which was not helpful. Now see the biggest scam of DELHI UNIVERSITYAnd when my friend got into deep analysis and found that there are more than 500 students who are affected with the lack of proper information between the university and college. There were students who were absent in exam or have scored less that 40% in exam and is still passed by the so called Famous Delhi University. There results shows as AB(Absent) in mark sheet and still passed in graduation and some shows like 35/100 and is still passed in Graduation. The proof of photo is below. As you can see the candidate was absent in exam of Business Environment and also he has secured less than 40% in subjects like Cost Accounting and still he is passed with Second Division. But according to the Delhi University he must be failed.Another Result ImageFrom the above image you can see in subject Financial management candidate secured 0 Marks out of 100 but still he is passed with Third Division.Lets me show you more ImagesIn the above image you can see the candidate has secured 39 marks in Marketing Management which is less that 40% as he has got 0 marks in internal for same subject. According to the rule he should also be failed. Same goes with Macro Economic he has secured 37 marks out of 100. Yet this candidate is passed with 2nd Division. There were more than 500 Students who are affected by this and University does not care about this and they just do their work for the sake of completion without seeing the consequences. Protest was also done but then no solution came out and this students will have to face struggle just because the University’s lack of information and lack of proper management. This was in media too: DUSU threatens to escalate protests over mass failure of 2000 B.Com (prog) studentsHundreds Of Final Year Students Have Got Fail ResultThis truth about DELHI UNIVERSITY need to be shown to the society. This university play with the life of Students and ultimately it is the student who has to face the future. This is really sad to see from one of the top university of India. Please share this as much you can. I have no intention to get up votes but real truth needs to be shown.

Should I apply to a Masters or PhD program in CS? As an underrepresented minority, I am a little confused on what I should do.

I normally don’t answer the “What schools should I apply to” questions. The usual answer to those is that only you know your situation, and you shouldn’t be asking random people on Quora. In this case, having read the comments, here are some thoughts that may clarify your decision process:First and foremost, you should absolutely keep pursuing your goals of research, and don’t let perception or worries slow you down. Grad applications is indeed a competitive process, but there is little benefit in worrying about what you think your competition has or doesn’t have. Being an underrepresented minority in CS is not easy, but CS as a field is trying to widen its doors to be more inclusive, and welcome students without the stereotypical programming-since-5years-old background. Don’t be discouraged. Put your blinders on and work, and the success might surprise you.Getting a MS degree may not help you in the way you think. I’ve written elsewhere about how having a MS actually raises the bar for the PhD applicant, because there’s an expectation for producing publications during your MS that is absent for BS applicants.Your background looks decent. I would work on raising the GRE math score. That’s just a matter of practice (take lots of practice exams and your score will rise). Your research sounds pretty good. I might suggest focusing it a bit more to a single research area. (PL, Crypto, Robotics are pretty different). You’ll get some points for versatility, but it would be more valuable to produce something more substantial with a single project/professor. I think those schools on the list sound pretty good. You should make sure you have enough of the larger programs, in case your research interests fluctuate (pretty common).I will note that I think you have a decent shot at getting admission from some of those schools. Best of luck!!
