Then they will perform a facial. During the facial they get to really examine your skin, touch it, feel not only the surface by underlying aspects of the skin. They’ll see how your skin reacts to being handled and the treatment. At the end they will make product recommendations, as well as design a skincare routine appropriate for your skin. If they feel it’s needed, they may recommend you seek out a dermatologist for more advance intervention.If they aren’t licensed, do not perform an intake, do not explain to you what they are seeing/feeling, make recommendations or design a routine, then seek out a better esthetician. If they seem to only want to push a ton of products, ask them for suggested alternatives. Some skin care products can be pricey. Although they can be expensive, they are often the best choice. However I had many clients who I knew couldn’t afford the line we sold. So I instructed them as to what to look for, what ingredients to seek and to avoid. And I still wrote up a suggested routine. They may recommend you return for facial treatments on a regular basis. This isn't always just a way to make money. Some levels of acne do require regular treatments to get under control. Over time the length of time between visits grows longer, as you skin becomes healthier and more clear. ANother big plu, is that a good esthetician can perform extractions of your acne lesions and clogged pores safely, without damaging your skin.

I would start by having a consultation with an esthetician. They have specifically studied the skin, its types, its conditions, how lifestyle factors and medical issue impact it, ingredients that go into skin care etc. They should be able to perform a quick informational intake and exam and make recommendations for appropriate products, as well as a suggested routine, based on the current state of your skin and your goals. Yes they will want to win you over as a client as well and will likely recommend af facial or even a series of treatments suited to your goals. However in my past career as an esthetician I had no hesitation doing such a consultation for anyone, even if I knew I would never see them again. Simply because I was passionate about helping people achieve their optimal skin health. Find yourself an esthetician with that type of attitude and you won’t go wrong.

Yes! If an independent contractor (LIcenced Massage Therapist or an Esthetician) is late for an appointment, that shortens the appointment time for the customer at our day spa. That can’t happen! The therapists need to be at the spa 15 minutes before the session begins in case the room needs to be readied. He/she also needs to meet the client and go over their intake form if they are a new customer.The first time they are late, they get a talking to. If they get late again, their hours get cut until they can show they can be on time. If late again, they are fired!
