What is Habib Fanny's view on Medicare?

I love Medicare. 90% of my patients are 65 or older. And, where I live, at least 80% of them have Medicare as their insurance. For my own patient pool, at least 95% of everyone I see has Medicare. This is because Medicare gave me the least trouble during the credentialing process.I sent my application to be registered with Medicare. The application was acknowledged within a month.Once the application is acknowledged as received, Medicare will take your bills going back to 1 month prior to the date the application was received. For instance, if you get notified that the application was received on November 14, Medicare will pay you for your work starting on October 14.Now, it actually takes several months for the process to be completed after that. For instance, I had to wait until March to get all the money Medicare owed me. I got it all in a huge lump sum, which I threw at my student loans.I feel very well compensated for the work I do. This is by far the most money I’ve ever made. The process to get credentialed with private insurers was more painful. I can see patients who have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee. But if a patient comes in with insurance from Aetna or Cigna, and I see those patients and send bills, the insurers will refuse to pay, because I am not in their network. Okay, so I applied to get on the network. I was told that the network was “closed.” I still have to see those patients on occasion… my work goes uncompensated.Medicare is never closed, whatever that means.

What are your thoughts about this Houston doctor being fired for not throwing away a vial of COVID-19 vaccine as opposed to using it on ten people?

The judge dismissed the case. The DA maybe wants to make a name for himself, or maybe he just doesn’t give a shit about vaccines.I don’t know how they handle things in Texas, or Harris County, or Houston, but here in Chicago, there is a checklist along with phone numbers and even addresses. The vials at our hospital hold six doses of Pfizer, and the CV19 ward has 500 beds. About 400 are in use most of the time.Twice in the past two weeks, there have been instances where doses had to try and be used within about six hours. Our current list is 75 or older, 65 or older, essential workers, pre-existing conditions. Calls would be made, the closer to the hospital the better. You’d be amazed at how difficult this can be. Many older people simply could not get to the hospital, though of course they are on a list that will get them the vaccine by the end of February. In one instance, they used up the last two doses on police officers who brought in a gang member. They would have gotten the vaccine sometime in March, anyways. So whether it is the hospitals in Houston, or Harris County, or Texas in general, the DA should be more concerned with why there wasn’t such a list. Because the defense will bring it up. The DA might also decide to be a douche on the side of the angels and suggest to ANYone that hospitals in the are start compiling lists.Maybe it would be worthwhile to find out why no lists were being kept.
