I am grateful to that old guy for my life and I truly feel his content is worth thousands of dollars. I use Sketch-Up Make 2016 or 2017 in the woodworking template. If you go for the pro pack, you can use builder and layout for 2D drafts and bill of materials. There are several extensions that can used to make material lists in a spreadsheet format as well as a cutlist and pattern for flatsheet work. The only thing is that Tremble has jumped onto the subscription bandwagon for downloadable software. They are also pricey at $650/yr.So far, I haven't found a 3D or 2D software that can dimension and create components as easy as sketch-Up and is compatible to an old laptop graphic adapter. Sketch-Up Make 2017 is compatible to my computer, so there.

I’m going off grid for several months. I’ve compiled a collection of resources and materials that I may need.
