Yes, even if you only survive the first year.First, some background. ITB has different system compared to most universities in Indonesia. While most of them admit new student to a specific major, ITB admit them into a facculty and let you choose your major on the second year (and select you based on your GPA). The first year is calles Tahap Persiapan Bersama (TPB - General Preparation Stage). You will learn the fundamentals here. All misconception that you (probably learn) in highschool will be repaired. You also given some challenge to test your analytical and problem solving skill. I think some of them worth mentioning here.First, Research Based Learning (RBL)This is mandatory task for the fundamental of physics course (and also some other course if you took the physics major/course). This task alone account for 10% of your final grade and usually quite challenging. For example, after learning the basic of classical mechanics at the first semester, you’re told to design a gasing (spinning top) with certain specification to reach maximum possible spinning time (the task is different each year, but this is the task for 2017 class). At the second semester, after learning the basic of electricity and magnetism, for the 2018 clas, you need to design a coil gun with given limitation to reach desired target. Not only this kind of task is challenging, it also train how you think to solve a problem.Second, Introduction to Engineering and DesignThis is also mandatory course and the task is different for each facculty. You need to take it twice (on first and second semester) and the task is also getting harder as time goes. For example, for School of Electrical Engineering and Informatic student (and also Facculty of Math and Natural Science) at the first semester they will learn how to design a simple yet practical tool with Arduino as basis. At the second semester, they will reuse that knowledge and combine it with Lego Mindstorm and Android to design a system (the final task isn’t clear yet since the detail hasn’t yet posted). The student at Facculty of Industrial Technology is tasked to make angklung (traditional musical instrument) with physics in mind. Etc.Third, the examThe exam in ITB is usually quite hard and test how well the student know about the subject, the ability to analyze problem, reasoning a solution, etc. Even if the quality of teaching is good, some students will still fail anyway if they don’t work hard enough to really think deeply about the subject.I think that’s it.
