Ok I am assuming you are interested to major in Earth science and geology related fields from IISER. According to my knowledge all old IISERs provide some earth science courses but only few IISERs offer a major in earth science. Currently 3 IISERs offer a BS-MS degree in Earth sciences .1)IISER BHOPAL- At IISERB you can major in Earth and environmental science(EES). From 3rd year it is suggested to either major in geology or environmental science or an integrated Earth and environmental science as per your choice. Here research topics are diverse from Earth surface phenomenon, solid Earth, geophysics, structural geology, petrology, plate tectonics to river dynamics, hydrology, oceanography, meteorology and climate modeling, environmental science to sustainable technologies.2)IISER KOLKATA- IISERK has the oldest Earthscience department and provides a BS-MS dual degree in Earth Sciences. I am not aware of research going on here.3)IISER PUNE- IISERP provides a BS-MS degree in Earth and climatic Sciences. I am not aware of their research.Try to keep these 3 IISERs in top 3 places of your preference list. Try to score well in your IAT so that you can get one of your top 3 preferences. If you don't get any of these 3 IISERs then also no problem because there are many good Indian universities which provides good geology and earthscience courses. I can tell you about Jadavpur University, which has one of the finest geology departments in India even better in some aspects when compared to IISERs. Now from which place you do you undergraduate degree doesn't matters much , what is more important is what you do during your undergraduate times. I took a remote sensing class in 2011 as a masters student. The class made me appreciate the power of remote sensing technology for earth science research, environmental planning, defense, navigation, agriculture, and insurance. My final project was on using remote sensing to track exposure to asbestos, a topic that remote sensing experts have advanced significantly in the last few years.The class structure was very similar to a GIS class I had taken previously: one lecture and one lab assignment per week. Some of the labs were straightforward, and others were anything but. These labs sucked up many of my Wednesday nights in in the GIS computer lab in the basement of the earth sciences building. (A note to earth science students: you can't run GIS or remote sensing software on a Mac.)Ultimately, I think I would have gotten more out of the class if I were working on an independent research project that had required analysis of remote sensing data.
