Student Monthly Progress Report: Fill & Download for Free

This is why we spend so much time documenting everything… Not because our administrators want to read it all, but because we and our administrators want to be prepared for parents like this. Some parents come in to parent/teacher conferences like lawyers cross-examining a witness, and we have to make sure all of our stories are correct and well-documented.The most common complaint from adversarial parents is some variation of: “we didn’t know this was happening, and it’s your fault that we didn’t know. You need to communicate better with us.”That’s why I do most of my official communicating with parents via email; it’s easy to prove that I did my part and let them know what was happening. We also put grades and assignments online. If a student fails a class, and the parent claims they didn’t know how bad it was, we can quickly shift the blame on them for not checking grades online and not responding to emails.I’ve never had a parent try the “we don’t have internet at home” excuse, but, if they did, we can remind them that we also send notes and progress reports home when there’s a problem. The most adversarial parents are the ones who don’t respond to those. If your kid isn’t giving you the things we send home, and you’re not responding to emails, we try calling home. We have to document that, too: every time we called, if we got ahold of someone, and what we talked about if we did.Documentation. It’s all about protecting yourself.A few years ago, we had a parent try the “I check my child’s grades online all of the time, and they were passing everything. I don’t understand how they failed everything on the report card!” This was an important report card, because it was what the high schools used for admittance. We pulled up the online grade book and showed the parent that it keeps track of how often they log on, and that they hadn’t logged on to check their child’s grades in almost six months. We also showed them over a dozen sent emails to them warning them that their child was missing work and their grades were going down.The parent looked shocked that we were so easily able to refute their story, but they still insisted it was our fault for “not communicating with them,” and that their child should be allowed to make-up all of the missing work from the previous grading period and have a report card re-printed.We ended up giving the child a packet of make-up work, which never got done.

Every PhD student has to submit a progress report to his supervisor to let him (the supervisor) know what the student has so far done . Usually the progress report has to be submitted at every six months. You have to write a brief report of what you have so far done including the literature review, methodology, results and discussion and conclusion. Then the supervisor will be able to see if your research is going on the right direction and advise the student to make any changes of the research program if there is any.

(A-t-A).When significantly involved in the project, you are entitled to be a co-author. It doesn’t matter the main idea is from you, another student or from the professor or funding agency. You may play a minor role in this project which is the master work of another student with major contribution. You are still entitled for co-authorship. The same is when the other students play minor roles on the project that is your main research project. That is the norm. But, sometimes the politics dictate something else and the professor follows the politics rather than the ethical principles. For instance, the professor may add the name of a person with no role in the project for some reasons (to support a new applicant for scholarship and admission, or a friend from industry/government). What you need to do now is to record and gather all evidences of your contributions in the project (lab notes, data files, stat analyses, monthly progress reports, lab examination printouts, SEM micrographs, etc.) Just in case if they neglect your authorship rights (this is your academic rights, no need to ask), you can defend your rights through the journal editors and university administration. When you contribute in a work your name must be there; don’t accept any promise that later your name will be added to papers of other projects. You not only must be a co-author of the papers, but as a co-author, you are entitled to approve the manuscript before submission to the journal office. No submission without your approval.
