The candidate must be a graduate and after competing in written exams he goes through Services Selection Board that runs short of a week and thorough medical check ups. A company roughly of 100 personnel with range of arms, ammunition, stores full of ration, clothing, ordinance and numerous types of vehicles from Jeep to big trucks and accommodations besides areas of operational responsibility that runs in 10s of Kms. he reports here to his Commanding Officer a Colonel.He in fast forward mode learns making quick decisions. In commercial terms he is now the CEO of a 100 Cr equivalent est. In abt 10 years when he is a Major, he had seen 5 stations or different establishments and has also attended about 6 courses in different part of the country. He is also exposed to the various borders in the North and in the East and has also been part of various military operations in various capacities. Conducting Inquiries issuing orders and briefing becomes a routine. To train the people working under an officer is part of the job besides good communication skills.Dhairya (fortitude) and Utsah (enthusiasm) are two major components needed to command the troops. In Bhagwat Gita these are the qualities of a Satvik Karta (here of a warrior).Day to day interactions with the seniors and the troops makes the officer smart in various aspects of business that he has to carry. Those serving in Army HQs are again the cream of the lot as Major.

LATAM AirlinesMy wife is Brazilian and our daughter was born in Brazil last year.We moved to Bulgaria this summer and I came in first, been native, to prepare all the paperwork and logistics ahead (to get my daughter’s Bulgarian citizenship and me and my wife’s official marriage registered).I bought the one way tickets for my wife and 1 year old daughter from LATAM.Day of the flight:My wife and daughter are going to the airport on time, together with family members (mother and sister).On check in, they are told they need to purchase a return ticket or they cannot fly, because “by law, every Brazilian citizen is required to have a return ticket”, which is an obvious lie.My wife calls me immediately, I clarify that no such law exists (had previous, similar experience with Avianca Airlines and I know South American airlines are prone to manipulate their customers and trick them to buy tickets with this tactics). I request to speak with the LATAM staff and they refuse to talk to me.Over the next one hour, they try everything in their powers to bully my wife and daughter, as well as another mother with little kid (returning to Italy, where the husband is from), to buy return tickets.ALL of the staff are using the “law” mantra and threatening with Federal Police, immigration and whatnot.My wife, stressed, remains calm and on my advice, requests to be shown black on white, where is this “law” written.Of course the LATAM staff cannot show it, so after an hour of charades, they let them on the plane to Tel Aviv, where they change flights to Turkish Airlines to Istanbul, where I am waiting for them.During the flight to Tel Aviv, my daughter is NOT GIVEN ANY food, even if my wife requests several times. No problem, my wife decides to just breastfeed her and be done with it. She already suspects the stewardesses are been “advised” not to do so.On arrival in Tel Aviv, to her surprise, both her and our daughter are taken aside and… inspected for the next 2 hours, because “they have been marked dangerous by the airline”.Let that sink in:A 1 year old girl and her mother (a frequent flyer and an expat, lived for 10 years in Japan) are marked by LATAM as dangerous to ISRAEL airport security staff!On the 3rd hour, passing by passengers (including many Brazilians) start to ask the airport security staff what is going on, because my wife and daughter are both crying and terrified. They offer assistance and finally the Tel Aviv airport security staff escorts both of them to their next flight, offering their deepest apologies and mentioning again, it was LATAM, who notified them for the “danger”.2 hours later, I was finally able to reunite with them and go to Bulgaria, where we now live.Currently we are preparing for a lawsuit against LATAM.QATAR AirwaysThese guys…A flight from Istanbul (which I regularly use, as international connecting hub) to Japan, via Doha, Qatar.I am flying with 3 samples of sports equipment, called Bulgarian Bag, to present them to gym owners in JapanThe samples are 2 x 8 kgs and 1 x 12 kgsAll of them are promptly checked in at Istanbul airport and Im happy, on my flight to Doha.Transit goes smooth and the flight is about to leave, when POLICE enters the airplane, comes to me and requests to follow them.I do so, without any hesitation.As I imagined, they want to inspect the sport equipment.I agree and I am seated in a room, in front of a monitor, showing the luggage section, where the airport security staff is inspecting my luggage.Of course, the inspection is very short- they pass the bags through Xrays and thats pretty much it… besides the problem, that I have seen only 2 of my bags (the 8 kgs) and nothing about the 12 kgs one.I ask the airport staff where is the 3rd bag, they say they have nothing about it.I show them check in papers from Istanbul airport, they start arguing between themselves, who is responsible, then they hand me over to the airport management to deal with the situation.By that time my flight to Japan is long gone.Manager is smooth guy, assuring me I will be on the next flight to Osaka.I thank him and stop him in his steps, requesting information about my missing luggage, also, food and beverage coupons (it turns out my next flight is after 8 hours), upgrade for my next flight and directions for phone or internet connection, to notify the people, waiting for me at the airport in Osaka.His response:“We dont do that here!”Dont do what? Customer service?! I laugh and ask him to be serious- in the end of the day, its their responsibility they have taken me off my flight and lost my luggage.Even Eastern China Airlines upgraded me to 1st class flight and free hotel, for misunderstanding, leading to missing a flight to Japan.Apparently, the richest, modern and best company in the world (as QATAR Airways is promoting itself) dont recognize travelers needs and doesnt like taking responsibilities for their actions.Some shouting and arguing later, Im eating and drinking in the airport business lounge, while skyping with the people, who were supposed to pick me up from the airport in Osaka.All good, I am assured by the airport management my luggage will be handed to me at Osaka airport.OK, Im on my way to Osaka then.Surprise, surprise- Osaka airport staff has no idea about my luggage, so the only thing Im left with is filing a complaint.So, business meetings are now ruined and QATAR Airways have stolen a piece of sports equipment from me.The next 3 years, my lawyer tries EVERYTHING to reach their HQs, to no avail- QATAR Airways is registered on address, where mail is non deliverable and nobody, never had a success reaching them over the listed phones or emails.Only response is via FB, with the standard “send us your itinerary number” bullshit.Later on, I found what a real joke of a company QATAR Airways is:Their Doha airport management is almost entirely consistent of Indian construction workers, who after completing working on the airport construction, were simply asked to act as airport management, without any prior training. And I believe the biggest achievement of their chief HR at the time, was working as a clown at Toys R Us :)

Cariappa replaced the last British commander General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher who served in the top position from January 1, 1948 to January 15 1949.The army celebrates January 15 as Army Day every year as it was on this day that the first Indian general took charge of the Indian Army. General KM Cariappa (later Field Marshal) took over as the commander-in-chief of the Indian Army in 1949.The first two chiefs of the army after Independence were British. Cariappa replaced the last British commander General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher who served in the top position from January 1, 1948 to January 15 1949. Bucher’s predecessor General Sir Robert McGregor Macdonald Lockhart served as the chief from Aug 15, 1947 to December 31.Cariappa, fondly known as Kipper, was only 49 when he took charge of the army. He served as army chief for a full four years, retiring on January 16, 1953.During the partition, he played a key role in reaching an amicable settlement for the division of the army between India and Pakistan. He was then a member of the army sub-committee of the Forces Reconstitution Committee.He was elevated to the five-star rank of Field Marshal in April 1986, in recognition of his distinguished military service. Only three military officers have held the five-star rank: Cariappa, Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.10 things about Army Day1. The Army Day parade, held at the Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment, is one of the chief highlights of the celebrations. The army chief takes the salute and inspects the parade led by the General Officer Commanding, HQs Delhi Area. The other two service chiefs also attend the parade every year and take salute. This parade is also a part of the Republic Day parade.2. Apart from the three service chiefs, India’s first chief of defence staff General Bipin Rawat will also attend the parade this year and take salute. Rawat took charge as CDS on December 31. The parade ground is one of the largest such grounds in Delhi. It was named after Cariappa in December 2016 in honour of the Field Marshal. On Wednesday, 15 soldiers will be decorated with gallantry awards while 18 battalions will get unit citations.6. Recipients of Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra (the highest wartime and peacetime gallantry awards, respectively) participate in the Army Day parade every year.7. The military hardware to be showcased at Wednesday’s parade includes infantry combat vehicle BMP-2K, K9 Vajra-T artillery guns, locally built Dhanush towed guns, T-90 main battle tanks and the short span bridging system.8. The parade will consist of 18 different contingents and will also feature a combat display in which soldiers simulate action in enemy territory.9. A lady officer will be the Parade Adjutant for the first time in the history of the parade. A fourth generation soldier, Captain Taniya Shergil was commissioned into the Corps of Signals two years ago. The parade adjutant plays an important role in directing and conducting the parade.10.The army chief hosts a traditional reception at his official residence on Rajaji Marg as part of the celebrations. The reception or ‘at home’ is attended by the President, the Prime Minister, cabinet ministers, top officers of the armed forces, former army chiefs and defence attaches of foreign countries posted in Delhi.
