These companies do not cure disease or ease patient suffering in any way, so they serve no positive purpose in the health care system. They suck value out of the system like a parasitic worm.Yes, it would definitely suck for the employees of health insurance companies who lost their jobs if this happens. Hopefully the candidates pushing medicare-for-all are compassionate enough to provide reeducation or training programs for these people. If we look at Elizabeth Warren’s plan, for instance, she is also planning to make public universities and colleges free and eliminate student debt. Bernie Sanders has a similar plan. She says the insurance companies won’t go away at all. They will still do utilization review like they always did, and case management, and billing. It was the week my husband died. There was a swelling on my left side of my neck. It had been there a few weeks, but my husband took priority then since he was constantly needing help. So then I had a needle biopsy into the fluid and an ultrasound. It was Stage IV breast cancer. That was April 2007. Now things are moving along. I have a huge hard lump on my chest above where the mastectomy was done. I’m more exhausted. I have had a weaker chemo than was planned because of a couple of important trips I’m taking. I understand I will have 3 more treatments. These I understand will be grueling. I am starting Palliative Care to get more support on symptom management. I now have a case manager through Kaiser Permanente. After those chemotherapy treatments, I probably am going on hospice care. I have been stage IV for over eleven years now, so I’ve been fortunate. I have not had pain from the cancer, though I am told, there will be pain. I already have pain medications for my back, but if other pain meds are needed, I’ll get it.
