Look at the score distribution of both exams. For IIT-JEE, you need about 50% of the full marks in order to get AIR of top 5000. Taking into consideration that JEE gives negative marks for wrong answers, this means you need to solve about 60% of the problems. In comparison, a student admitted to the top 2 universities in China normally get about 75% or more from the math/science parts of Gaokao. Note that the top 2 universities of China recruit about 4000–5000 science/engineering majors each year. Hence, we have a reason to assume this group of Chinese students have roughly the same capabilities in math/science as top-5000 Indian students. Given that the time pressure of IIT-JEE (108 multiple-choice/fill-in-blank questions for 6 hours) is similar to that of Gaokao (the math/science parts: 60–70 multiple-choice/fill-in-blank questions plus 10–15 proof/essay questions for 5.5 hours), we have to conclude that IIT-JEE is tougher than Gaokao, *on average*.A closer look at the problems from the two exams. Take physics problems for example. Compare JEE-Advanced with Gaokao and you can easily observe two differences:Gaokao has some very simple problems, while JEE-advanced does not. Examples include: Young’s modulus, uniformly accelerated frame of reference, angular momentum, Bernoulli’s theorem, Kirchhoff’s law, …If these two factors were removed, JEE-Advanced physics would be very close to Gaokao physics.Why IIT-JEE should be tougher than Gaokao. The reason is that IIT-JEE is for admissions to elite colleges like IIT only, but Gaokao is used for admissions to all colleges throughout China, from the very best ones to the very worst ones. If Gaokao were as tough as IIT-JEE, the elite colleges in China would definitely be happier, but the vast majority of (lower ranked) colleges would be truly upset. Given that the current overall college admission rate is 70%+, you really need to include in Gaokao some problems that can be solved by students from the lower half.What elite colleges do when they realize Gaokao is not enough tough. The elite colleges in China have realized the toughness of Gaokao is insufficient for their admissions. Therefore, they have arranged a number of harder tests: (a) the math/sciences olympiads are used for admission purposes. If a student excels in olympiads, he/she will be given additional marks for Gaokao, or (in the extreme case) even a waiver of Gaokao. (b) Each top college has its own special test, which is normally tougher than Gaokao but less tough than olympiads. Students who excel in these tests are given additional marks for admission purposes. Below are two sample physics problems from Peking University’s special tests. The first one is for general majors, and thus harder than Gaokao but less hard than physics Olympiad. The second one is physics majors, and thus as hard as physics Olympiad.[Peking University 2016, General Majors Camp, Physics Problem 12] Two street lights of height H have a distance L from each other. Assume the coefficient of friction is a constant [math]\mu[/math] everywhere. Also assume when blocks reach the feet of the triangle, they do not bounce up and no mechanical energy is lost. (1) Find the relationship between the four lengths, [math]l_1, l'_1, l_2, l'_2.[/math](2) Find the ratio of the time used by the two blocks. Your result should not contain the four lengths above. As I mentioned above, Gaokao is less tough than IIT-JEE only *on average*. Individual Gaokao problems can be extremely hard, sometimes as hard as an olympiad problem, and thus harder than IIT-JEE problems. I will give you an example below. If I were representing, as I do in other contexts, a software developer or firm that was taking on an engagement through Gigster, I would have a few significant comments.In general, the Gigster agreement is typical in form, meaning that it has unclear language, defined terms that aren't defined, and some clunky spots. Keep in mind that Gigster may or may not be interested in updating the base agreement or creating a side letter amendment for a specific project.Here are some specific comments and observations I would raise with a client:Section 2.1 - the assignment of deliverables is fine, but the assignment of all other inventions that "arise in connection with the Contractorervices ... including ... source code developed or created by Contractor that is not specific to Customer and is generally applicable to other Customer projects and deliverables ...." seems overbroad. As I read this, if DHH were working on a webapp for Gigster, they would claim ownership over Rails. That seems aggressive.Section 2.2 exempts pre-existing IP of the contractor from the assignment, but the language in this section purports to limit it to pre-existing IP that is disclosed in writing to Gigster before the delivery of the Deliverable. It might contemplate that before such items are included or as they arise, they are disclosed to Gigster on a rolling basis. In any case, this requirement would require some integration into a developer's workflow.Section 2.2 also grants a license to use any Contractor Technology in or needed to the deliverables or other inventions, meaning that a developer would not want to use any "real IP" in the course of this agreement; in many cases, a developer would want to prepare a standalone license agreement to monetize that IP or more strictly limit its automatic licensing.Section 2.3 has a lot of duplicative language about assignment that doesn't seem to apply to a waiver of moral rights.Section 2.4 requests written permission but doesn't clarify from whom. It's probably meant to be the third-party licensor because Gigster is mentioned in the first sentence, but it's not clear. Is it the customer? Maybe it is Gigster.Section 3.1 says the developer (unless it's milestone-driven) gets paid after "acceptance of the Deliverable by Gigster." But Section 3.2 sets up a clawback if the Customer rejects the deliverable. In any case, there's no description of any acceptance process. This is non-standard and a common source of problems for developers and clients alike. Maybe it's on the project page, but that's not mentioned here. There should be a formal acceptance procedure and timeline after which objections are waived and a deliverable is deemed accepted.Section 4.1 is silent on whether Gigster has any payment obligations if it terminates the contract without cause. Typically, some percentage of completion measure is used. This term would cause many developers to either only use this for small projects or to elect milestone payments to reduce their risk. There's no mention of upfront payments or deposits, so those common methods of reducing risk seem to be unavailable.Section 7.2 uses the term "Statement(s) of Work," but it's not defined and does not appear in the terms of service. Maybe it appears on the Project Page.Section 7.2 requires that no open-source code be used. It's broadly defined, and so even sample code found on stack overflow might be implicated. (An argument that many would make is that there are no damages from a breach of that provision if the code in question is unremarkable and perhaps indistinguishable from independently written code. But who wants to fight over this?) The same is true for any code with a GPL-like license that requires licensing of certain derivative works. On its face, this provision would seem to rule out a rails project, and the no third-party code would seem to rule out apps incorporating SDK code without specific permission from Gigster. Hopefully they incorporate those permissions in the project page and specifications.Section 8 requires indemnification of Gigster by the developer for infringement. However, it extends to all "Inventions," which includes things not included in the Deliverables (for which indemnification is typical). If a developer invents something, that Gigster takes, that turns out to have been patented by someone else the day before, the developer is now on the hook even though the developer didn't get paid for that invention or make any intentional distribution of it to the customer or Gigster. I think it's overly broad and outside the typical scope of an agreement like this.Section 10 - the non-solicitation is overly broad because it includes contractors and there's almost no way to find out whether someone falls into that category. It doesn't include a common safety valve for general, non-directed advertising. Also, the developer can't work for any Customer without Gigster's consent. This section uses "Company" as a defined term that is not defined. It's almost certainly meant to be Gigster but still....Section 10 also says that a contractor can perform other work unless there's a "conflict of interest." That's not defined and overly vague. Presumably every freelance developer has an inherent conflict of interest with Gigster because they compete with each other.Section 11 contains a typical arbitration and no-class-action clause. It's worth noticing but not unusual.Of course, each of my clients has particular concerns that are unique to them, so this list alone wouldn't be sufficient to give them advice about any particular engagement. If you're reading this, these questions may or may not be significant for you, and they almost certainly don't capture all your issues. Real legal advice deals with your specific facts. Don't get caught by not getting the real answer.

When I was 19, I had sharp pains in the right side of my stomach for several days. I was worried it was my appendix but the pain wasn't getting any worse so I just went to see my regular doctor. She gave me paperwork to go and get scans done that day.Before I left to go get scans, my doctor said she included paperwork to have an ultrasound on my thyroid because she thought it had an abnormal appearance but it could've been nothing.I got the scans done and my stomach was perfectly fine. Its been 7 years and I have no idea what caused the pains but they resolved on their own after several days. My thyroid scan, however, was very abnormal.I had a lump almost the size of a ping pong ball. My doctor told me to be prepared for cancer. She had had thyroid cancer 3 times herself and said it's very treatable and does not normally spread. “If you had to get cancer, but you could choose where, the thyroid is the way to go.”They took a sample of the lump (which was not a fun process) and when the test results came back, the lump was not cancer, but more thyroid. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, a very common autoimmune disease in older people in which the body attacks the thyroid as if it were a virus causing it to over-produce until it essentially “dies" over a period of time.It made perfect sense. All throughout middle and high school I could not gain weight even though I had a huge appetite. My BMI was so low, I had to get a waiver to play school sports. I had been diagnosed with severe anxiety when I was only 14. They tested my thyroid hormone levels and I was being pumped with way too many hormones. It explained a lot.I'm 26 now and my thyroid is still slowly dying. I've gained about 70 lbs since I graduated high school because instead of getting too many hormones, now I'm not getting enough. My anxiety has transformed into more of a depression, which is common. Luckily, I haven't struggled with infertility, which is the most common symptom of Hashimoto's in women, though it did take longer to get pregnant than expected and totally affected mine and my husband's decision on when we'd have children. I see a specialist once a year unless I get a bad report. Then I get tested every 3 months until it normalizes. I'll eventually have to go on hormone supplements.So basically, I went in for a stomachache and came out with Hashimoto's Disease.
