PDF Editor FAQ
If Batman was real, who do you think his secret identity would be in the real world?
Well, if you're really wanting to stick to the true mythos of Batman, you need the following:WealthInheritance of such wealth (Which cancels out the Zuckerbergs and such)A tragic loss of parentsSuave public personaAnd then yes, good looks, business savvy, and athleticismSo who does that leave us? Well, if we're looking for the best match, then sadly, our real world original Batman died on July 16th, 1999.John F. Kennedy Jr.Born November 25th, 1960Heir to political and socialite Kennedy familyFather tragically killed by an assassin(s) on November 22nd, 1963Heir to Kennedy fortune which on the record was a share of upwards of $600 million, although grandfather Joe Kennedy was very secretive with family fortune, thus there could have been so much more.JFK Jr. was once known as America's number one bachelor and certainly New York City's (Gotham) most famous bachelor of all time. Was People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1988, the only person named so who was not a working actor. His love life was filled with a plethora of beauties, including the likes of Daryl Hannah, Madonna, Cindy Crawford and Sara Jessica Parker, until he finally married Carolyn Bessette.Tragedy. Wealth. Inheritance. Beautiful love interests. Public figure. Business savvy. Athletic. Adventurous.Possible origin and story arc: After the tragic death of his father, JFK Jr. was deeply affected and haunted. While growing up in the public eye, he secretly studied the Martial Arts and learned the ways of American law. Disgruntled by the political arena of Washington, he relocated to the Gothic city of New York. Here he used the crime ridden back streets of New York City as his training ground as he fought crime in the shadows of dark alleys, fueled by his father's assassination.By day he was the socialite son, after dusk, he lived by the code of vengeance as The Dark Knight. One tragic day, JFK Jr. was reported as having died in a plane crash, although this was a cover story created by a media mogul with connections to the mob and to a secret ring of corrupt political villains who were responsible for his father's death. In his guise as Batman, The Dark Knight, he had slowly unraveled the mystery of his father's demise that fateful November day in Dallas. As he closed in on the secret ring responsible for the assassination, the corrupt powers that be sent out their greatest warriors to destroy him.Over a rainy night in the back alleys of New York and on the rooftops of its skyscrapers, Batman took them on one by one, defeating them all until one final foe remained. Matching Batman in strength and ability, Batman was thrown into the night off of the Twin World Trade Center Towers after an epic battle. As authorities came to the scene, the final foe disappeared into the night, thinking he had prevailed over the Batman. Little did he know that the body found by authorities was that of one of Batman's conquests, face destroyed from the fall. The Dark Knight, seemingly forever handicapped by the wounds from his battles, now lives an anonymous life in an unknown location, watching as the secret ring of corrupt political villains wreak havoc on the country, controlling the seemingly uncontrollable. He waits for the science and technology to repair him so he may once again return and vanquish these men and their heirs who killed his father and forever changed his country.*This is written with all due respect to JFK Jr. and his family. Please Upvote, Share, Follow Me, and Follow The Tao of Screenwriting for more screenwriting and film industry insights. What is a movie prop that was used in multiple films in an innovative way?
This newspaper has been in dozens upon dozens of movies and TV shows since the 1960s.Before I get to the examples, here’s a little history. A small American prop company called The Earl Hays Press in California specializes in creating custom product design and packaging for movie productions, including newspapers, books, magazines, posters, signs, cans and bottles, product labels, etc. This newspaper was first printed in the 1960s. It’s been used in countless movies and TV shows since. The front is blank and can be customized, but the inside and back pages are always identical.Instead of productions having to create an entire page of newspaper every time a character needs to be reading one (in the foreground or background), it’s easier to purchase Earl Hays fake papers for just $15 each in bulk. Any leftovers can be recycled for other productions.Using this newspaper also means less work for the legal time of each show and movie having to get onscreen newspaper content approved. If you use the same pre-approved newspaper over and over, it’s less work. If you need to include a new headline or something, you can just insert it into this pre-approved newspaper as well.Notice the back page. There it is again to the right. And the Top Hat on the left is the other side. Multiple papers can be combined as well.We have a better view of the left page. You can see it to the left of Marty’s paper too.It just won’t stop.Okay, now it’s getting creepy. It’s like the Twilight Zone.I have a feeling that a lot of us will be noticing this more and more as we watch movies and TV shows. Sorry about that. It’s a VERY innovative way of reusing a prop. Please follow The Tao of Screenwriting for more fun Movie/TV discussions, as well as screenwriting and film industry insights. Why was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom so dark compared to the other two from the original trilogy?
Because both Lucas and Spielberg were in a dark place of their own.The easy go-to is that George Lucas, the producer, wanted to create a much darker movie compared to the first — largely pointing to the example of The Empire Strikes Back in the Original Star Wars Trilogy. But there’s actually more to it than that.Where Was Marion? The first film ended with Indy and Marion linked romantically together.Spielberg originally wanted Marion and her unseen (but mentioned) father Abner Ravenwood to appear. But Lucas and Spielberg later agreed that each film should have a new love interest, much like the James Bond movies that Spielberg had initially wanted to direct until they created the character of Indiana Jones. So that’s why we don’t see her. This sequel is actually a prequel, set a couple of years before the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark.It Was Because Spielberg and Lucas Were Going Through DivorcesLucas told Empire Magazine:"Part of it was I was going through a divorce, Steven had just broken up and we were not in a good mood, so we decided on something a little more edgy. It ended up darker than we thought it would be. Once we got out of our bad moods, which went on for a year or two, we kind of looked at it and went, ‘Mmmmm, we certainly took it to the extreme.’ But that's kind of what we wanted to do, for better or worse.”Their dark approach — full of dark concepts like child slavery, starvation, human sacrifice — made the original movie’s writer step away.Lawrence Kasdan said in an interview:"I just thought it was horrible. It's so mean. There's nothing pleasant about it. I think Temple of Doom represents a chaotic period in both their lives, and the movie is very ugly and mean-spirited.”So there you have it. Yes, Lucas used The Empire Strikes Back as a scapegoat of sorts. But he also later admitted that it was primarily because he and Spielberg were in a dark place of their own.Ironically, Spielberg met his future and current wife in the sequel’s female lead Kate Capshaw. Although they wouldn’t pursue their relationship until after the movie was released. They got married in 1991.Please follow The Tao of Screenwriting for more fun Movie/TV discussions, as well as screenwriting and film industry insights. Ask me questions.
