Do you know any lawyer who got disbarred? What was the reason for their disbarment?

Read the sad tale of the Trevor Law Group. A bunch of guys whose legal careers were shorter than the amount of time they spent in law school.Essentially, they combed through records of the California Bureau of Automotive Repair looking for complaints against mechanics and then they threatened the mechanics in question with lawsuits based on California’s comprehensive Unfair Business Practices Act.They made one unforgivable mistake—they filed one case and attempted to add hundreds of defendants, therefore denying the State of California a cut of their nefarious proceeds. It costs over $500 to sue someone in California. They could have filed case after case, but instead, they went for volume and crossed various ethical lines by having non-lawyers involved in settlement discussions, failing to clearly identify who the client really was, just a bunch of sophomoric stupid errors.Had they limited themselves to one case per defendant instead of suing the entire Southern California automotive repair establishment, they quite possibly could have gotten away with it.However, they tangled with large automotive repair shops who had access to incredibly good attorneys. They were stomped out of existence like you step on a bug.3 Accused Attorneys Resign From Bar

What is your most "you've got to be kidding me" experience at a car mechanic?

My sister took her vehicle to a Smog station to be smogged. Though it passed with flying colors, it failed the “smoke” test. Essentially, the test station said it was emitting too much smoke, charged her $500+ for a diagnosis that said she needed a new engine to the tune of $2500, and failed the vehicle for its smog. I knew it was bogus because I had just given the vehicle a valve job after the water pump seized and shredded the timing belt (interference engine). Everything on the top end was new.I told the shop owner that I was fairly certain his mechanic had made a mistake, and I was willing to chock it up to that (since one of the diagnostic tests was a compression test that had no results/findings). Owner said no, stood behind his mechanic. I told the shop owner if the engine was in as bad shape as his mechanic said, the spark plugs would be fouled (oil), and the engine would have low compression. He agreed. I had him pull the plugs and the plugs were clean and dry. He argued it probably still had low compression. I had him test it in front of me since he never wrote down the findings. Compression was factory stock new.The shop owner still argued when the vehicle was cold, it was smoking (vehicles should be tested at operating temperature anyway). Long story short, I told him I'd wait until the vehicle cooled. If it did not smoke when it was cold, he would refund my sister the diagnostic fee $500+ plus the smog fee or I'd turn him in to BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) and the Better Business Bureau. I walked out with all of my sister's money — in cash.

What is the biggest scam an auto mechanic ever tried on you?

Oh so many stories I could tell. This is one of my favorites though. Many years ago my daughter and her boyfriend were moving from California to North Carolina. My husband owned a Nissan pickup truck and offered it to her to pull the UHaul trailer and her stuff in the bed of the truck.Hubby had to work so it was left to me to go along for the ride. Along the way we cracked the windshield and tore a hole in a transmission line. We did manage to make it to my mother's house in one piece. We took the truck to the dealership to get the repairs done. The transmission line was covered under warranty so I paid the deductible. I had the windshield replaced in my mother's driveway as it was not covered under the warranty. While the transmission line was being repaired the dealership informed me that there was a recall part that needed to be fixed. The truck was fully loaded and they said that I would have to come back once the bed of the truck was empty as it would need to be on the lift for the repairs.I took my daughter her stuff and then went back to my mother's house. I made an appointment to have the recall item repair done. While they had my truck apart the service technician informs me that there were some bolts that were rusted and it was extra work for them to remove them and it was going to cost me $250.00 for them to fix the recall item. I questioned this but they wouldn't budge. I paid the $250.00 got my truck back and left. When I got home to California I wrote Nissan Corporate USA a letter explaining what happened. Amazingly I received a phone call from. Nissan Corporate asking about my experience. They informed me they had other similar complaints about this dealership. They said they would call the dealership and find out why they charged me.I didn't hear anything for a few weeks but then I received a check and a letter of apology from the dealership. I also got a phone call from Nissan Corporate asking if I was satisfied with the results.I did learn that if a dealership gets too many complaints to Corporate headquarters they can lose the company sponsorship and it makes it difficult for them to represent any other car company. There were other instances but those were handled by the bureau of automotive repairs. Every state has one and they need to be informed about bad mechanics.
