When I was a little girl, I got a 93 on a math test. I was so proud of that 93, when my mother told me I almost fell out of my chair! Math was, and still is, my worst subject.I’m sitting in my seat, grinning ear to ear, and you know what she says?“Next time, make it a 98.”She told my dad and he said “I thought you were supposed to be smarter than the others.”For making it onto the honor roll he’d given me this pretty little watch with a brown band, but when I got that 93 and he would see me doing anything but studying, the only thing I got was a disapproving look. Eventually, my parents cut me off from video games, the computer, even church.Our pastor tried to reason with them— I was already skipping meals and losing hair due to stress — but they wouldn’t budge.My next test I got a 90 and began self harming. My little brothers, under the same pressures as me, started cheating their way through classes. Anything was better than getting that “bad” grade.Honestly, we barely survived. I still cry when I don’t get 100s in my classes. I fight that feeling of failure every single test period. But hey, if your daughter is superhuman (she’s not) then maybe she can handle the pressure (she can’t.)

A few months ago, police in Sydney, Australia, were called to a local residence after reports of a woman screaming, and what sounded like loud banging and smashing sounds. Neighbours said they became quite scared when they heard a man shouting “I'm gonna kill you!” Suffice to say, the police received a number of calls from concerned neighbours.The police turned up to the residence and knocked on the door, identifying themselves. A large-set man answered the door, visibly sweating, and was confused as to why police were knocking on his door. The police told him of the complaints and asked him where the woman was and if she was okay. Another confused look on the man’s face before it finally dawned on him… he let out an embarrassed laugh.Turns out he had encountered a spider in the apartment -- where he lived alone — and after letting out several high-pitched screams, he proceeded to hunt down the spider with threats of violence, turning over chairs and various other breakables, till he finally got the critter.No charges were made.
