Lets understand this.India has got many great leaders in the past, lets take Presidents for example, how many of them do we Remember?Though they went through similar process and acquired the same position still, we remember some specific ones only.Similarly All 24 Tirthankaras in Jainism recieves equal respect, every single Tirthankara is equally important, pious and worthy of veneration, but only because Mahavira was the last, comparatively popular, quite close to our age and his legends are historically traceable, he recieves more acknowledgement.There can be possibly few reasons behind special appreciation of lord Mahavira,Few we'll discuss here,Mahavira is accredited to re-establishment of lost dharma, Reorganization of fourfold Sangha, and rejuvenation of ancient shramana practices.He Traveled far and wide and earned thousands of devotee's from Royals to workers, his philosophy was appealing to the masses as it was inclusive of welfare of all living beings, including insects and animals . Being Kshatriya prince of ikshwaku clan, He raised a voice of equality at the time when there was discrimination by brahmins and other superiors in almost every ground. That made him beloved of many.Mahavira came at the time where many religious schools were in run of an establishment. Many false and harmful practices were in prevalence and superiors were indulge in unethical practices.Although there were many rival faiths in prellel, Mahavira's emphasis on ahinsa was pretty staunch and his explanations was obvio impressive.Mahavira was also the last of the 24 tirthankaras for this present cycle and thus every event of his life was comparatively much celebrated and recorded thereafter.Although for Jains every Tirthankara is special, they pray to them with equal faith and devotion, but since Mahavira's philosophy attracted many prominent Non-Jains too in a history, his historicity was much accepted and acknowledged by global researchers and historians, and his Sangha is continuously till date that's why our common master seems to recieve more devotion and special respect In the eyes of viewer.Other practical reasons for Mahavira's popularity is that, Many institutions, universities, colleges, stations, parks and even roads are named after him, there's ample literature about Mahavira's life, philosophy and teachings available with Jains, and his life find mentions in early texts of other parellel religions as well. these, I see, can be some reasons why others believe that Jains are much devoted towards Mahavira.Actually for a Jain be it Rishabha, Parswa, Nemi or any other of the 23, all Tirthankara are of equal status, in their highest state of bliss and are thus to be venerated with equal regards. And yes Jains do that. There's no question of more devotion.As I said above, I simply find it partially true as for others it might appear like this, as for others Jainism is just a religion founded by Mahavira, (which isn't true offcourse but thats an another argument). It's just Jains believe that It's his Shashankaal (era), so some believe that he'll hear us out and will come for rescue. which isn't true as Tirthankaras has left the very earth and attained Nirvana. They're detached and we only keep their idols to remind us how greatness look, how simplicity look and how the perfect one's looked like, and not to beg for worldly possessions.And ya we have many tirthas, temples and many more things dedicated to other tirthankars as well and love and respect them all.When I was in Hong Kong, people asked me where are you from? I said India.When similar question asked to me in Delhi, I said I am from M.P.When again it was asked by someone in Bhopal, I specified my city, i said i am from indore.Did i lie? Nope. But i answered assuming other person might not know my town but he'll surely get a country..Similarly when a non Jain asks a Jain who do you pray to, we usually say Mahavira.
