What's a cheap but well made watch?We all like to watch (excuse the playword) beautiful watches. But the big majority of people cannot really afford to buy that beautiful Nautilus you admire so much.So, there is a kind of specialization in horology dedicated to what some call PMWs - that is Poor Man’s Watches. A name which IMHO is inherently wrong.I have to tell you my personal idea: everybody can do a beautiful watch with unlimited resources for rich buyers, but only the most imaginative watchmakers can make a good watch that everybody can afford. This is why, behind all the legends of horology, one of my favourite is Mr. Roskopf - the inventor of the “Proletarian Watch”. This man - who managed to create a watch that everyone could afford - was a genius, and his greatness should be much more praised than it is by all horologists around the world. How long does it take to assemble a working one?This said, let’s go back to your question.And let’s focus on the mechanical movements. We all know you can buy nice quartz watches for a few bucks, but I would like to focus on the watches which attract the attention of connoisseurs worldwide, and still retain a certain value.And they are either hand-wound watches or automatic watches.In this category, as the mechanical movement does have its costs, we find few contenders. On one side of the world we find the Timex group. Timex is a very old company which has always focused on reasonable quality but affordable timepieces. They are so rugged and no-nonsense that they can withstand every kind of abuse and continue to tick-tock almost forever without maintenance. I have myself rescued some 1950s Timex watches from flea market stalls, opened their back, added a lil bit of oil, and they have started to work again right on the spot. I know, you horologist friends, this is NOT what you should do to a vintage watch - but this is just to attest their extreme rusticity and durability.The alternative is to look for Seiko and Orient watches. Those Japanese companies manufacture the best watches in the low range that you could find on the planet, bar none. The Seiko5 line is there from the 1950s, continuing to add models every year, and still very successful as always.In a way, they are the Swatches of the East, and have continued to be so for an amazing amount of time. I mean, their starting price is around 100 USD, and they come with very nice finishes, materials, and a rock-solid movement that works almost forever.Plus, they look stylish and well designed, and are positively judged by every watch connoisseur out there.If you want to start with watches, they are the perfect first step into the fray. There will be time, maybe, when you could find other kind of watches, more upscale and beautiful, or made in precious metals: but the watches from those companies will represent a very good first step.If I were you, and I would have to buy the cheapest one I can afford, I would start from a used Seiko 5 of a design you like. You can find scores of them on eBay, selling for 20–30 USDs. Just be sure you get it from a reliable seller who affirms that the watch is working, and pay it with PayPal, and you will be golden.If properly adjusted by a competent watch repairer, a Seiko 5 would be quite precise and become a trusty companion in your daily life. Go buy one: you will not regret it. There is also someone who wrote me that his most precise3 watch was a Seiko5, with specs withing superlative chronometer limits - this would be a very rare occurrence, so do not think this will happen to you as well.PS: I would personally wear that Seiko 5 on top (which - as I have been asked - should be a SNX123K1) every day, any day, rather than a quartz Michael Kors or a Daniel Wellington - with all due respect to what the latter companies did accomplish, that is.As a note to my readers, I have written a guide to watches and watchmaking called The Watch Manual (link in my bio, you can download 8 chapters for free).This answer contains promotional references.

I took classes on operating systems before I earned my Master of Science degree in computer science. In the course, we had to write a fully functional, multi-tasking, multiuser operating system. While we had teams of 3, we did not work on the project full time. If I had been designing, then writing code full time, I could have finished the kernel by myself in under four months.There is a process in writing computer programs. First you need a specific set of customer requirements. Second comes design at both high and low levels. It would help a lot to have a team to review the design because multiple eyes can see flaws that a single pair can miss.After the design is complete, the coding begins. When coding is complete, each subroutine, function, main section of code, is independently tested. This is known as unit test. Once all the units are tested, they are joined piece by piece and tested together. This is known as system test.Ideally, at this point the program is sent to customers for beta testing.For purposes of planning, companies expect a certain productivity. Where I used to work, this was 125 lines of system tested, documented (including user manual) code per man month.Microsoft is not releasing the exact number of lines of code in Windows 10 but some folks estimate in the 50 million range. If correct, that means a single average programmer would take a little over 33,333 years to write Windows 10.A talented, experienced programmer might be able to cut that by 75%. Superlative programmers write code that is twice as efficient twice as fast. Plus, he or she would write a far better operating system. Windows is as buggy as a bait store (think virus vulnerability).

S-Class, one of the best chauffeur driven car you will ever enjoy on Indian roads:Why?Features:You really haven’t experienced Mercedes Benz’s lofty standards if you haven’t driven or sat in a S-class. A car hat stands at the pinnacle of everything the three-point star stands for.Each inch of S-class reflects quality and standard of German manufacturer, but the the most impressive part of the car is seats. This car is a dedicated four-seater, where all seats can be adjusted for various parameters. Yes, this may leave precious little space for a fifth passenger, but only superlative adjectives can be used to describe the seats. Each a size larger than necessary for that extra bit of comfort, they support you in areas other seats don’t reach — upper and lower thigh, the edges of your shoulder blades, and the entire length of your back. You’re seated at the perfect height behind, and like the earlier S, the seats can either have cool air flowing through them or be heated, adding considerably to overall luxury. Massager in the back seats are like icing on the cake..you feel the stone moving up and down vibrating slightly..it can not be described in words..you have to experience it.Few more impressive features that make this car truly special, like active suspension (ABC), infrared night vision (Night Assist), radar-aided Brake Assist Plus, cruise control (Distronic Plus), air matic air suspention (adopts the nature according to road conditions), Split view screen (driver can see car's info while passenger is enjoying a video on same scree at the same time) and number of safety features.AirMatic..my favorite among all the mercs:Set the car in ‘Comfort’ mode and the S-class suspension becomes especially supple. It dispatches poorly paved roads without breaking into a sweat, the massive chassis floating on four thick columns of air.The car has an improved version of the ‘Airmatic’ suspension found in the earlier version, and I don’t hesitate to call this the best air suspension system around — better than on any of its competitors. As with any of these systems, it has the ability to raise the ride height of the car if road conditions demand it, making the S relatively stress-free to drive on our roads. What makes all this even better is the fact that the absorbent ride is not attained through soft springs. It’s also amazing that even though the thin, 55-profile tyres may be rolling through a poorly paved section, there is little rocking or pitching from the suspension, the S-class sailing over like that proverbial ghost ship, the Flying Dutchman.Sharp-edged bumps and large potholes, however, still catch out the air springs, primarily because the air springs find providing instant compression (demanded by such obstacles), difficult to deal with.Drive-ability:As I have mentioned earlier it's a chauffeur driven car, because you will always prefer sitting at back, enjoying the smooth drive and the features instead of going behind the wheel and get this mammoth out of the typically crowded roads. So lets come to the point,it has no right to feel light, agile and attack corners this way. But at almost two tons, it still does. There are three modes you can drive this car in — Comfort, Sport and Manual — the last allows you to shift gears via buttons behind the steering wheel. Select ‘Sport’ and the car recognises you want to drive with more urgency, and it tweaks the Airmatic suspension and adaptive dampers, and even lowers the car’s ride height by 20mm after 120kph.Pressing on in the massive S-class is not intimidating at all. In fact, the car tightens up its act and displays superb body control and poise around corners. It’s ever willing to turn into corners, grip is very strong and modulating the brakes on this new S-class have much more feel.Status:In India Mercedes has always got a soft corner when it comes to image. You don't buy a Mercedes for just getting yourself from source to destination, you buy it for the reputation and reflection of your status. The star comes with a social status, you are associating yourself with that tag by buying it. Best car in the world is going to be better as the new model is rolled out, haven't got chance to get in the new model, but still the best is just getting better.
