He ran the clinic after his office hours.Starting from the year 1973, he ran his general clinic for the public, especially for the needy. He collected a consultation fee of Rs.2 at that time. He was transferred during his service to different places but he used to set up clinics wherever he went. Finally after his retirement from the service he settled down in the district of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and ran the clinic full time. He had to hike the fee due to various circumstances. His latest general consultation fee was Rs.20 which he used for paying the building rent and other expenses.He was only a general consultant and if the patient needed any specialisation, he would recommend the same. It is said that on an average he met around 100 to 150 people every day. He didn't have any assistant or nurse and would meet every patient in person.He breathed his last on the 18th of November, 2016.He was fondly called by the locals as “Irubadhu ruba doctor".Translation: “Twenty rupees Doctor”.Once he was interviewed by a local channel, where he said “God has given me sufficient money to take care of myself. I’m helping the sick and the weak recover their health. Let God do the rest of the work.”He was made popular only after his death, which even now saddens me.I knew of him only after his death, I will never forget him until mine.Hail humanity, Spread love.
