PDF Editor FAQ

What is a nice lake in PA just over the Ohio border, that is conducive to long quiet peaceful walks?

Wow, that border between Ohio & PA is very long so I don't know how convenient my suggestions will be, but here goes.Several areas come to mind but I guess my #1 recommendation would be Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park near Slippery Rock, PA. I always enjoyed walking or biking its paved trail and getting to see the many sailboats that enjoy this very large lake. It is surrounded by forest and is also known for being home to eagles and ospreys which you might get to see.Another reason I suggest Lake Arthur is because if you find it is not as enjoyable as you hoped, you could always go down the road to McConnells Mill State Park, which is an extraordinary place to hike. Although there is no lake it features a stunning gorge carved out by glaciers and surrounded by towering, tree-topped boulders. Trails take you to the old grist mill which is another great photo opportunity. I miss this park so much after having moved to Michigan. As for other lakes entirely, of course there is always Erie, PA, where Lake Erie is amazingly accessible for walking due to the peninsula that is Presque Isle State Park. You also could consider the Pymatuning Reservoir, which is in both Ohio and PA and is probably best known for the Linesville Spillway, where ducks walk on carps' backs (you gotta see it to believe it). But, my vote is still Lake Arthur. Good luck!

What are some of the most underrated things about Kerala?

Most of the tourists that visit Kerala are amazed by its beaches, waterfalls and tea gardens but Kerala is home to a lot of other scenic delights as well, which are often missed by most travellers. The following are the most underrated places that I’ve discovered in Kerala.North Kerala is not a very popular destination with tourists, but we decided to start out journey from Calicut and discovered some beautiful spots in Wayanad like The Meenmutty Waterfalls, Pookot Lake, Pykara Waterfalls, Chembra Peak and many more amazing places.Meenmutty Waterfalls, Wayanad( 81km from Calicut) - These waterfalls are on the Wayanad - Ooty Road. The 2km trek to the waterfalls is the biggest adventure I’ve had till date, the terrain is dangerous and you have to trek on slippery rocks with little or no support (we could have fallen off the cliff anytime) hopefully some safety measure would have been reinforced by now. The waterfall was beautiful and made the hike completely worth it. Elephants and other wild animals are often spotted bathing in these waterfalls.Pookot Lake, Wayanad - On our way after crossing 9 dangerous hairpin bends we were greeted by the beautiful Pookot lake. It is a very pleasant boating spot with a wonderful view.Further on this route are the Pykara falls and the Chembra peak which is a very good trekking spot.On my next trip to Kerala we got down at Kochi, usually people visit just the Athirapally falls but they do not go further into the Athirapally- Vazhachal forest and miss one of the most bio diverse areas.Athirapally Forest, Thrissur- It is home to many species of endangered and endemic flora-fauna including the Hornbill, of all the forests that I have visited it was the most dense forest, the forest was dark even during the day. The path crossing the forest is dangerous in terms of what you could come across, you could be greeted by Elephants or any other wild animal at any point of time, there is no certainty so be advised.Vagamon - This is a small hill-station (in the middle of nowhere, if you ask me) in the Kottayam-Idukki border of Kerala. Its a place with little or almost no commercialisation. It has vast green meadows and a Pine forest!, the pine trees are very old and the forest literally takes you back in time. Vagamon also has huge rock structures where mostly people go for trekking. It has an eerie feel to it with very less tourists, at night the mist surrounds everything and looks just amazing. It also provides para-gliding facilities.Pine Forest, VagamonIf you are already in Thekkady or planning to go to Munnar then you should take the route passing through Vandanmedu and Ramakalmedu, it would take a little longer but its completely worth it. The place is famous for its beautiful cardamom plantations and the amazing cardamom fragrance that fills the air. Ramakkalmedu, Idukki - This place is famous for windmills, picturesque views and the high wind speed. It is 11,00m above sea level and the wind speed is very high it is the place that swept me off my feet and no, not metaphorically but literally.Just near Munnar is the The Eravikulam National Park set in the Kannan Devan hills is the home of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and also offers a spectacular view of the tea gardens. It has the largest surviving populations of the Nilgiri Tahr which are on the verge of extinction. The best time to visit Kerala is either during or just after the Monsoons because everything is a lot greener and the waterfalls in their full bloom .Nilgiri TahrAs Rober Frost has rightly said “I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
