I wasn’t the adopter, but I witnessed this working at a children’s home.We had one pretty pre-teen girl whose parents’ rights had been terminated. She had been in the system for years and in and out of psychiatric placements. It was very sad. It is hard to imagine what that child had been through, and I certainly do not mean to criticize her. I do mean to criticize ‘the system’.The thing about this girl was that she presented very well. One would think she was the sweetest, most polite, together kid in the world. There were hidden issues though, particularly of the sexually acting out sort. She was predatory and targeted younger children and any male staff members. I have no doubt she had been a victim herself.If your parents’ rights are terminated, the state of NC wants to get you permanently placed, i.e. adopted. I get it, but disagree with what happened.For risk of revealing confidential info on a minor, I will just say that she appeared on an unnamed nationally broadcast program focused on kids waiting years for adoption. She dazzled and had a young couple come from another state to meet and eventually begin the process to adopt her.The adoption fell through because this child inappropriately touched the prospective adoptive father, tried to seduce him, and treated his wife like a rival. I don’t know all the details, but was told this couple was put through the wringer and were devastated.I felt bad for them and hope they got past it and were able to go on to adopt another child or have one of their own. They were so sincere and hopeful.I still can’t believe the child’s case worker put her on national television! That was so unethical to allow her to portray herself as the perfect angel and wow the audience and viewers. She should have only been presented to caretakers with experience in her type of case, not a wide-eyed naive young couple.Her appearance on that show likely pushed a more adoptable, yet less attractive and dynamic child, to the sidelines. TV producers will always focus in the pretty charismatic child.

Not to my child, but to me. My parents were very upset. I was in 3rd grade. This was in 1981.I was a skinny kid who could eat like crazy. I have also never been a picky eater. I’ll eat anything from Vienna sausages to a trendy ‘fusion of the week’ restaurant. Naturally, I loved cafeteria food. I still sometimes crave the rectangular greasy “pizza”. I also loved the burgers, which I’m not sure were technically beef. Oddly, many of my fellow students did not share my enthusiasm.I ate my burger during lunch and a boy next to me asked me if I wanted his. Of course! For whatever reason a bunch of other boys decided to donate their burgers as well and I ended up with 6 or 7 more unsolicited burgers piled on my tray.Mrs. McNew - the scariest helmet-haired teacher on earth - saw this. She came over to my table and proceeded to lecture me about starving children in Africa and greedy, ungrateful children. She was livid! I tried to tell her I didn’t want all those burgers, but she just shook her clawed finger in my face. She probably weighed 90 lbs soaking wet and is still one of the scariest people I’ve ever met. We were all terrified of her. Horror tales were passed down for years.To get to the point, she ordered me to eat ALL those burgers and stood over me to make sure I complied. I managed to stuff down a couple and then some other poor kid drew her attention… thank the gods. I started stuffing burgers in my milk carton and anywhere else I could find to put them. By the time she came back, it appeared I’d eaten them all. Not sure she bought it, but she let me go on to class.I casually mentioned it at dinner. My dad, who is super easygoing, was furious. He actually took time off work and went to the school. I remember being very taken aback by that. Everyone knew the lady was a witch, why was he freaking out? I was a strange child.So, the witch didn’t get in trouble. Not really. I think the principal forced her to apologize to dad, but she accosted me in the hall the next day and informed me she wasn’t sorry because “greedy, ungrateful kids/starving children…”. I just stared at her. Wow!She continued her reign of terror for decades. She retired in the early 2000’s a couple years before my niece would have had to suffer her. I have no idea how this woman kept her job. Supposedly she chilled a bit later in her career after she actually faced some consequences for duct taping a kid to his chair. Not exaggerating. It was insane.

Disclaimer: My beloved late mother voted Trump and many people in my part of the country did too. I most certainly do not think all Trump supporters are crazy or evil or stupid. The following story, however, is from another realm of reality.My husband and I were eating at a restaurant just after the election. Capacity was restricted and there was only one other occupied table which was a good 20 feet away. One of the diners in this group was very loud, however. It was a long and rambling conversation, so I’ll give the “highlights”.It’s been proven that Obama, Biden, and Fauci released the Covid to ruin Trump’s election chances. Obama even got 3.9 million dollars from China to test it on unborn babies. It’s been proven! (Not sure what “proven” means in this context or how Obama granted access to these theoretical unborn babies. I have lots of questions.)Trump won. No doubt about it. There’s no way all those people voted for Biden. Franklin Graham needs to do something about this. (Umm… okay. Again, lots of questions.)A lot of dead Mexicans voted for Biden. (Soooo many unanswered questions)Please enlighten me with any proof or theories on these compelling arguments. :)
