What should I be careful of when a brand offers to make me an Instagram ambassador?

Great question!Here’s some things to consider before accepting (and throughout your partnerships)Partnerships should always be mutual. This means mutual benefits and values. If you don’t see benefits in it for you OR if the brand isn’t something you can support, obviously it’s not a good fit.What are the brand expectations of you and are they reasonable? Becoming an ambassador is a fun opportunity but if the brand expects access to a community you don’t have or unreasonable results, this is a partnership to avoid. Know what you’re capable of beforehand by testing out unpaid product recommendations with your followers and gauging their interest. If the brand doesn’t “make sense” given your niche, don’t do it. The content will look forced and it won’t benefit either of you.If the partnership is a legit match, consider the compensation. If that compensation is payment, try and know exactly how you will you receive the money (Paypal, Bank transfer, Venmo..) And on what basis will you be paid (per post, per sale, email subscriber, discount code use, another conversion metric, etc.) If that compensation is sampling, many ambassadors will negotiate minimum product values (only accept things worth at least $X, for example.)Do they have an established ambassador program? Do they provide a contract detailing how long your ambassadorship lasts and guaranteeing compensation? This is not disqualifying if they don’t have one but it’s nicer if they do.What are your duties as an ambassador? How many promotional posts does the brand expect and what kind of messaging is considered “on-brand”? Also, is the partnership exclusive? (for example, are you barred from working with competitors.) What type of review are they anticipating? Do you have room to be honest… ? Which brings us to,Is the brand FTC compliant? For example, if they ask you to not disclose your paid partnership, this is not FTC compliant. Do not work with them.Finally, don’t let a brand monopolize your media. The healthiest Instagram accounts have only 7% sponsored content, anything more will impact your engagement from followers.
