Extradition was late so they bonded out. Missed court date. Got rearrested in Colorado and shipped to Texas. In Texas bonded out. Killed themselves with carbon monoxide in their car. Life lesson: If you are going to steal from a credit card company do it for enough to really escape and live off the grid forever.First guy I ever leased a space to. Very gentle person. Vietnamese nail shop. Wife goes to Vietnam to visit family. Comes back six months later to tell him she is leaving him because he isn’t a man and she has a new guy. She then goes upstairs and goes to sleep. He loses it and stabs her 20 times. Life Lesson: When you break up leave!Tenant who we sold equipment to kept lying to the tax district saying the equipment was ours. We sent them the bill of sale. Weirdly they were taxing him for ten times what we sold it to him for but he never corrected it. Taxes would have been like a hundred bucks a year. When he said he was moving out we went and got his letter to the tax district, made a deal with them to wipe the lien on it for 1/5th of what we’d sold it to him for and kept the equipment. Life Lesson: pay your taxes. (same guy as number 3)The bar that keeps getting sold to a new newly divorced middle aged rich guy who uses it to hit on his waitresses and inevitably marries one who then gets him to sell it to a slightly younger middle aged rich guy and the cycle continues. I started charging a $1000 transfer fee for the lease work on the bar. Feel like I’m running a high end dating service.The guy who had a very profitable business and had a racehorse girlfriend(much younger very hot) who had two kids. Was buying a restaurant for her to have a job for 250k. Knowing how much work they are I asked “Hey why don’t you just give her 50k a year and she can go work out during the day and take care of her kids?”. They didn’t listen. They broke up 2 years later and he sold the restaurant for 25k.All the boutiques where someone is paying for someone else to have a job.The never ending stream of Herbalife prospects. How do they keep finding people?!The guy I’m pretty sure leased an office space from me just so he could try and get me to buy Ambit energy from him(with a couple office buildings I was a good target for those guys but really).The very small office tenant that took any spare baseball season tickets we had. Basically ended up getting how much rent he paid in free baseball tickets. When he retired he had to get his own tickets.The guy who said he couldn’t bring his rent because he was going for chemo in Houston. So, I live in the Caribbean. Almost everyone I know has at least one boat, I don’t, but mainly because I don’t go fishing on my own, and since everyone else has one, if I do want to go out I can always join them.So when I first started going out, people would make comments about handling that or any boat, which I realised, later on, were lessons, they were imparting without being snide about it, teaching someone who was now living there. A bit like a parent talking about how to drive a car, to their child, while they are driving around.One thing I noticed was that, if several boats were going to meet at a cove, or certain anchor point, they would slow down until they were going just a little faster than the counter current, or just as fast as the leading current, or just fast enough to move forward in the direction they wanted to go in without letting the winds blow them off course too much. The speed dropped even more when we came close to the other boats.I asked about that and was told, that all boats create waves, and the faster you go the bigger the waves. These waves don’t stop when the boat stops, that means that the waves will hit the other boats, and if they are at a standstill, they are going to get wet, get a really strong “bump” by the wave pushing them high up then dropping down again, capsize the smaller boats.I have seen all three in the time I have lived here, usually caused by tourists, who invariably think they are god’s gift to boating, and don’t have a clue how to handle a boat (actually that doesn’t happen too often since most places that hire out boats, are required to ask for a boating licence if the holidaymaker wishes to hire a boat).Yes, there are many differences between the open sea and a lake, but physics is physics, and it applies EVERYWHERE, even on a lake. Lots of boats, close together, moving at a decent clip, people on board drinking (possibly even the “captain”), some boats are carrying too much weight, waves are created by the boats, these waves hit other boats and rebound in all directions, repeat for sometime, cue disaster.Do the cities/counties that are in charge of these lakes, not have rules as to who can drive/captain boats? Do people not have to do a “driving” course and sit a test, like they would for a normal car licence or even when applying for a gun licence?But then again, Trump supporters. Probably didn’t know, or care, or didn’t care to know.EDIT - 08/Sept/2020I just wanted to thank everyone who upvoted my answer and for all the people who posted replies here, and to just quickly (before going to work) post a couple of replies or “add-ons” to some of the replies here.I have a small house/villa/flat in an area that doubles’ as a residential area as well as a resort. There is an artificial harbour, where each place home has a water-front property, so everyone can either tie up their boat or have boating visitors tie up right at the patio. From the very beginning, when looking around at different properties there, the sales person, mentioned, several times, that there was a 5mph NO wake zone through out the harbour area, that extended out into the open water for about 1–1.5km (so roughly 1 mile). The fines that were levied were hefty. Also you didn’t want to be in a situation where you speed into the harbour, cause a wake that damages a boat that costs more than your own boat. The only people I have every seen violating that regulation, were/are tourists. There is no acceptance of “I didn’t know”, since EVERY house/villa (sounds grand but is only a 2br upstairs, w kitchen and living room) owner, gets a letter laying out the boating regulations and the fines that can be incurred, and there large sign posts along the water ways, in both directions, announcing the NO wake rule.Of course we too, have our own idiots here, who believe that the regulations do not apply to them, but they learn quickly that some regulations WILL NOT be broken, regardless of who you are.Finally, I have actually read all the comments from people replying to my post, and I have to say that I agree or like everyone of them.Krista DelleFemine, yes it is just “common sense”, however it seems that these days common sense is in very short supply, which is a great shame, as I found a lot of common sense in the US when I visited there in the past. It is part of, dare I say it, what made America great. Then along came the generation of entitlement whose motto is “It’s my right, …”, and common sense was thrown out the window along with “behaving responsibly”.
