PDF Editor FAQ

Was 1998 a better year than 2018 to work in the financial industry?

Two things:(1) Political correctness and (2) automation.(1) Back in the 90s, bankers were more naughty fuckers than they are nowadays. This year, imagine hearing: “Hey, we need a new senior analyst in the M&A energy and renewables team”....a few seconds of silence..“Let’s stick with the HR policy of ethnic minorities and preferable women over men. We really need to boost our women/men ratio in senior positions”.That, that is what is wrong with 2018. If you did that in 1998, they would fucking laugh in your face.(2) 2018 obviously has the advantage of automation, but truth be told this mostly pushes the useless financial average Joe out of the door who did nothing else besides pushing buttons in Excel (from 98′ to 01′, to 03, to ‘08, and so forth..). Plus, a lot of automation is required due to the fact we’ve had our fair share of financial troubles over the years. Those recessions caused incompetent regulators to blow us away with a million and one additional rules. This phat layer of bollocks is mostly captured within numerous automatic systems. That does make life a lot better. However, truth be told, 98′ - 08′, was a more interesting time than ‘08–’18 in my view, for the above reasons.

What are some interesting stories behind great inventions?

From Wikipedia's introductory paragraph:"William Powell "Bill" Lear (June 26, 1902 – May 14, 1978) was an American inventor and businessman. He is best known for founding the Lear Jet Corporation, a manufacturer of business jets. He also invented the battery eliminator for the B battery, and developed the 8-track cartridge, an audio tape system which was widely used in the 1960s and 1970s."I like the story that he designed a car radio which was much more compact than the competitors' offerings because he wound much smaller coils for the RF (Radio Frequency) sections. Another major problem that Lear (and his friend, Elmer Wavering) had managed to solve systematically was filtering the electrically "noisy" environment of the cars of that time which had made it impossible to listen to a fitted radio while the engine was running.Lear and Wavering pitched their invention at a radio convention in Chicago, to Paul Galvin, an inventor who was looking for ideas to sell his "Battery Eliminator" for radios - these days we call it a Power Supply and it simply provides a low DC voltage, like a battery, but from the AC mains supply. After Lear's abortive first attempt, Galvin eventually accepted the idea. When Galvin applied for a loan to mass-produce the radio, he thought it would be a good idea to install a radio in the Packard of the local banker that they had approached. Unfortunately, the car caught fire half an hour after the radio was installed and the loan never materialised.Galvin then took his own Studebaker, fitted with a radio, drove 800 miles to Atlanta and parked it at the 1930 Radio Manufacturers Association convention. He couldn't afford a show booth, so he relied on the cranked-up volume of his radio to attract attention in the parking area. This plan worked and he got his first lot of orders. That first production model was called the 5T71. After some brainstorming for a catchier name, and because the three biggest radio and phonograph manufacturers had names that ended in "ola" (Victrola, Columbiola and Radiola), Galvin settled on the name "Motorola".Here's the legendary twist: Electronics engineers had calculated that a radio coil (for the relatively low radio frequencies used for broadcast in the early days) could not have a smaller diameter than 5 inches. Bill Lear was self-taught in early electronics and simply didn't know about this theoretical limitation! That's the story, anyway.Footnote: Lear also famously designed an autopilot on the back of a restaurant napkin. He also invented a radio direction finder. When he was developing his legendary executive jet, his demands on his employees' time earned him the nickname of King Lear. Wavering stayed on at Motorola and developed the first automotive alternator, replacing the lower-power-at-low-revs generator and making way for power windows, power seats, and air-conditioning. Motorola also developed the first push-button tuning on radios, the first 2-way radio for the US army (the Handie-Talkie), the first pager, the first cell phone - and the equipment to televise Neil Armstrong's historical steps on the moon.

I love this software, actually it is one particular feature that is EXTREMELY attractive for me, which is the ability to make a form that is 1) fillable, 2) electronically signable, 3) that can be available via a link, 4) that can be placed on a website, 5) and best of all accessible only by secure login. All these features are amazing.
