Mao lost his wife, a son, two brothers, a sister and three nephews, Zhu De, saw his pregnant wife tortured to death and her decapitated head nailed to the city gate.Today’s 90,000,000 members are volunteers.They contribute over $1,000,000,000 in annual dues.They contribute billions of volunteer hours leading China to dàtóng.Members don’t benefit financially from membership.Half the members have at least a junior college degree, forty percent are women, one-third are ‘exemplary farmers, herdsmen and fishermen,’ a quarter are white-collar workers, a sixth are retirees.10% of Party members are ethnic minorities, though ethnic minorities make up 8.5% of China’s population.Seven million civil servants are Party members.Two-thirds of the Party’s leaders have graduate degrees and one-fourth have PhDs.Members vote democratically–on a one man, one vote basis–for senior Party and government appointments.Surveys suggest that the Chinese people are pleased with the direction the Party sets for the country.

Nether the collapse of the EU nor the collapse of the UK should be welcomed.A disorderly collapse of either the EU or the UK will have implications trade, citizens, politics, the economy and business.The future of the UK could be contingent on elections to the Scottish Parliament in May 2021 and to the Northern Ireland Assembly scheduled on or before 5 May 2022.In the Scottish parliamentary election, current surveys suggest the Scottish National Party could increase their representation. In the Northern Assembly election, surveys suggest that Sinn Féin could top the poll, paving the way for an Irish nationalist first minister.At the time of writing, I think the UK has a 50/50 chance of still existing in its current form at 2030. As for the EU, I think there will be at least 27 member states by 2030.

The Alba Party is unlikely to split the Nationalist vote share. Indeed, recent surveys suggest that the Alba Party will not win any seats, when voters elect the Scottish Parliament on 6 May 2021.The Alba Party is not fielding any candidates in the any of the 73 single member seats of the Scottish Parliament. They are fielding regional candidates where the 56 seats are allocated proportionately based on party vote shares, accounting for wins in the 73 single member seats.More likely is a governing coalition of the SNP and the Scottish Greens. The Scottish Greens being sympathetic to another Scottish independence referendum.
